Its stuff like this that makes me wish there was an RR2 bot exchange.

Two questions:

1. What do you like about the way RA2’s system works?  What would you chnage?

2. What other games are great examples of ideas we could use?
This may just be me, but I think being able to adjust your build in between fights could lead to some fun match-ups. IE: Adding an anti-spinner configuration.

I like that idea too.  Maybe coming in with a bunch of ready-to go parts?  Maybe based on a weight limit?
Having a limited number of alternate configs could be fun, and would tie in with how modern robot combat works, but I don't know how you'd integrate that into the current build system. Perhaps something like Automation, where your cars have a base model and then one or more trims; you could have a base robot (chassis, drive system, batteries), and then everything else you put on it is a config. That'd be a total revamp of the build system, though.

Something like RA2 and the Robot Wars games, where you have a limited amount of time to make repairs (and/or change configs) between matches, would also be great, and add a little extra challenge to things, as you try to prioritise which parts to repair/replace.

One thing I'd like to note is that, if you're gonna have a tournament mode, you're gonna need a much bigger roster of opponents than at present. Especially if the tournaments are gonna cover the whole spectrum from antweights up to heavyweights, and especially if you don't want tournaments to get stale because you're fighting the same machines over and over, like in RA2. It should be fine to pad out the roster with botlab creations like (again) RA2 and the Robot Wars games, but you gotta make sure they collectively showcase as many of the botlab's capabilities as possible.
It would be awesome if you could add your own builds as opponents to fight in tournaments as well. Alternatively, patches can be made that add new opponents, along with the old ones, but I personally favor the former.

What weapon motor are you using? Because if it's not an Etek, you're not going to get much power.
just changed it to an e-tek. its RPM increased by 500, and the energy is now at 18.9 kg.

So apparently, that's the highest it can go. Any idea how I can improve it?

I love the hell out of this game. It's just so fun to use and fight with the pre-made bots and even my own. I'm still working out the kinks of it while I make the transition from RA2. So, I decided to start off my showcase with a replica. I have no idea if my spinner stats are any good, so you all might have to tell me.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Badnik was right
« on: August 04, 2019, 08:59:21 AM »
Hey guys. I just wanted to make this announcement really quick.
I quit.
I can't do RA2 anymore. I can't do tournaments anymore. I just can't over the past few weeks everything just feels like a chore to do. RA2 just isn't what it used to be for me. When I got my new computer, the first thing I thought was "OK, I need to make something for so and so's tournament." Notice how I said "need" instead of "want". I didn't need to build anything. I never have. I just thought I did.
Before I go, I want to thank everybody here. It's been a nice year or so with you guys, and you guys have been excellent people throughout. I'm not leaving because of you. I'm not leaving because of a failed tournament or whatever. I'm leaving because I can't find enjoyment in playing RA2.
If an admin wants to delete my account, go ahead, because chances are that I won't return for a while. Sorry this was so short, I just wanted to get this off my chest. Many of you may hate me for making such a big deal of it, so go ahead. At least I won't be here to hear it.
Thanks.

After looking through all the impressive builds/replicas I figured i'd throw a Quantum into the mix. After several do overs, I think I managed it.  [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

i've noticed that direct driving wheels for drive really doesn't work that well anymore, if you still have direct drive wheels, try using chain/belt drive and gearing them down, helped for a tombclone i had which drove like ass

Hmm.  Thats a really good point.  The Ampflow A28-150G motors we use for our 85 lb school robots are geared down with an 8.3:1 ratio.  This gives a stall torque of 122 Newton-meters.  I’m not sure what would happen if we tried running them ungeared.

For contrast, the ungeared A40-300 has a stall torque of 27 Newton-meters in the game.  This is pushing a robot that is almost 3 times heavier.
Maybe some drive motors in future?

For some reason, the game is very laggy in battle. I have a Windows 7 and I tried everything from low graphics and shrinking the screen.  :vista:

Have you tried any previous versions?  If so, is there any difference?
All the versions I played were just as laggy.  :(
what computer do you have

Idk what pc does he have, but this update, stuff is slow to load

haha classic kix putting comments inside of quotes

It would be cool to have an option, where you can turn a spinner down. This will be very useful, if you want to build replicas.
what do you mean by that

I'm insanely hyped for this!

Do you know where this second mesh is? There are only 3 instances where I find the coordinates of a point, which represents the 3 meshes a single point has.
you should be able to do ctrl+f and replace all results

21.     Wedges/Wedgelets attached to Axle Mounts/Free Hinges are banned due to messing with physics. These axles/hinge types are fine for decoration however!

Looks wise, the replicas are absolutely gorgeous. However, you could use other motors in the game to fully replicate each robot's function IRL. For example, Killertron's axe could use an overkill motor to get an automatic 180 degree arc. Other than that, keep up the good work!
