It really was ugly compared to the predecessor, right? 2 just looked naked without the black lines! It didn't look right!

Japanese Rooftops in RA2 would be best thing. A new, good tabletop arena <3 only problem is the glass?

Few options:

Button to open.
Slide or fall open after a certain amount of time.
Act like the fridge in the RW arena (when you hit it when flipped or glitch into it, it falls).
