I know but I have no idea how to balance IRL-ness and make it look tidy.
Don't worry too much about it that will come with time. Focus on getting a feel for how the plates work and keeping your bots IRL and tidiness will come as you build more.

As for the current version of the bot it's getting better. Those battlepacks are looking a little too exposed for me personally. I'd try to get them covered up a bit more to ensure IRL-ness.

Added the armour panel for a wedge instead of the smaller wedges, including the side and bottom extensions. The hinge is now inside the robot and the weight is 398.8kg which IMO is brilliant weight use. Is Domination 1.2 tournament standard now?

(Image removed from quote.)
The wedge is still very disconnected from the rest of the bot. It should look like it's part of the bot rather than just floating in front of it.

Yeah super exposed hinges like that are generally a no-go in terms of IRL building. Try to integrate them into the design a bit more. Generally, if from the outside you can't tell that the wedge is on a hinge then that's okay.

The back does look a little exposed but I like the work done on the main body with the eyes and eyebrows
The internals image has the back panels removed. It's not that exposed when it's complete don't worry

Very, very nice. I love the way you've done the wheel guards in particular. Just a very neat, well-built bot all in all. Great stuff.

That's a pretty neat flipper. Is there anything in the chassis apart from baseplate anchors?
Nope just a baseplate anchor. It uses the component freedom / sergepatcher mod to allow components to be attached to extenders outside the chassis. Bots like this are known as extenderbots.

Have you considered changing some of the back armour to Ti and the the underside to Ti, could better protect it from gutrips?
I may change the underside to Ti yeah. Back armour is already all Steel. As for dropping it to a CW by changing Steel to Ti, It originally WAS Ti, but it was 35KG overweight anyway (and this was with only the very front panel being Ti, the rest being Alu), so I just upped everything to Steel and made it a HW. It's got enough drive and weapon power to do fine as an HW anyway.

Neeeeeeew bot. Been enjoying making animal-themed bots lately so here's another. This is Pissed Off Bison. I wonder if you can guess what animal it's meant to be based on. Front hinge flipper with 2 small VDMA R/P pistons for the flipper, so not the most powerful thing in the world but also not the least. Dual TWMR2 drive so it's reasonably nippy, and all steel armour except the underside which is Alu, so it's fairly tanky too Started out as a way overweight CW but there was no way I was getting it into the CW limit so I upped the armour to steel and called it a HW. Still a bit underweight at 767.2 KG though so I have a bit of weight to play with if you have suggestions for improvements. 2 black batts and 1 ant for power.

Getting better. A few things though. The motor you're using for the spinner there is really not enough for a CW. Many lightweights would have more power behind their spinners than that. Try to upgrade to at least a TWMR2, if not a 4 mag gearbox. Also, the wedge looks completely disconnected from the bot since it's only held on by 1 solitary extender as far as I can tell. That would snap instantly IRL, so you should try to add some panels to make the wedge look more connected with the rest of the bot.

Nonetheless, good to see you taking feedback on board.

I believe I use the heaviest version of Steel, I normally just built the robot, put all the essentials in and then make the armour as heavy as it can go before it hits 800kg. I will download the Serge Patcher now as with the new robot I just built the interceptions really did change the way I built it.

This new I just built still lacks that quality armour placement, (something I will work on after I download Serge Patcher), but finally has that powerful flip.

Name: Launch
Drive: 4xNPC-T64's
Weapon: Flipper powered by a Beta Burst Motor

Edit: Turns out I have Serge Patcher, but in the document it says "disabled by default", just need to know how to enable it.

Theres a lot of space at the back. I would just recommend usig extenders to make wheelguards and just plate the back instead of just building this box around it. This will give you wight to increase the width of the flipper and an some angle panels on the side of the flipper. Non the less its a great improvement

For the next rear hinged flipper I do, what pistons/burst motors would you recommend? Want to make a flipper that gets some serious launch agaisnt the opponent.
A pair of Wide Medium or Large VDMA R/P pistons should give you some power. Either that or a beta burst motor

It's a decent start. The motor you're using for the chewblade at the back is more of a drive motor than a weapon motor, though TBH I'd probably just ditch the chewblade all together as they're not very effective anyway and the weight could be better used elsewhere. Good choice with the drive motors. NPCs are probably the best drive motor in the game, and with some grippier tyres than the whirl weps you should get plenty of speed.

As for the flipper, I'd recommend trying to make the wedge less steep, which will help it get under stuff better, and also using a stronger burst motor or at the very least using 2 of the ones you have currently, as on a heavyweight a very small or small VDMA R/P piston isn't really enough.

I'd personally try to shrink the size of the bot down a fair bit too so you can use a smaller chassis and save some weight there. Goign to 2 wheel drive NPC Fasts but with grippier wheels should provide comparable speed to what you're getting now but weigh a lot less and take up less space.

Nice start though and welcome to the forums! Good to see new members still cropping up

Right so some minor issues have happened. So Tashic entered a bot about 20 seconds after the last slot got filled, which would normally mean he'd be rejected. However, it transpires that PrimevalMamba's bot wasn't built by him. I'd feel bad just kicking him out, but also wouldn't want to leave Tashic out by letting Primeval replace his bot. Therefore I've decided that I'll host a fight for the last spot in the tournament. Primeval has provided a new, legal bot and Tashic's bot is ready to go, so a fight to decide the last spot will be out soon along with the SBV thread. Thanks to everyone who's entered!

Custom Components Showcase / Re: SagarisRA2 Showcase

Welcome to GTM Sagaris, Im no expert as RWRA2 so I cant comment on the internal components but I'll give some advice about the design. 1. I noticed it's double layered. With the assumption both layers are Alu I would recommend have Ti panels overlayed with Polycarb. 2. The front of the robot is rather messy and you might be able to add them front armour plates to hinges if RWRA2 has them it'll make the wedge more effective. Overall it's a good design, it just needs cleaning up. Also I recommend you wanna try and build as close to the weight limit as you can.

As for tournaments. DSL 2.2 is the most popular for them so I would recommend trying that out at your own pace and starting a showcase there. You'd get a great amount of feedback there.
Here's a link on how to enter tournaments: https://gametechmods.com/forums/tutorials-and-tips/beginners-guide-to-entering-a-tournament/

Thanks for the feedback, I will make them edits now. Also would you reckon I start a separate post for the DSL 2.2 stuff or use this post and rename it?
Separate post in the DSL section.

Seeing all these robot showcases makes me really depressed. Not because they are bad, but because I wish I had the skills to build such well-built robots. Especially how to use armour panels effectively. But you make mad good machines.
The component freedom mod, DSC's IRL packs and practice are all it takes. Set up a showcase of your own so people can give you advice and you'll improve in no time (If you check the first page of this showcase you'll see the kind of stuff I was building when I first started here)

Came at it with a fresh head today and managed to make a bunch of (what I think are) improvements. Switched the bursts for the wings from Very Small VDMAs to Smalls, which makes it much more reliable as a srimech. Changed the mounting of the motors so that the wheels are less ugly, and shoehorned another battlepack in so it has much better battery life now. Ditching the double wheels gave me a bunch of weight so it's still below the HW limit too at 797.6 KG.

Polycarb panels?
Would look infinitely worse and weigh a ton more. Polycarb panels clipping through each other looks like ass

making the wings thinner would help but im not really sure how to do it well
Ideally I would have made them transparent if there was clear square extenders which would have hopefully made them look better, but there's not unfortunately.

Returning to The Apiarist because I'd been wanting to make a HW version with srimech wings since I made the first version. Couldn't think how to with the internals as cramped as they were though. Nonetheless I thought I'd have a crack and an hour and a half and a total internal redesign later here we are. Slow as sh** as it's a HW with 2 TWMR drives for drive and the new wheel placement is less than ideal but the lack of space forced my hand, and fairly lacking in battery with only 1 battlepack and 2 ants, but it works and as far as I know it's IRL. 2 Very small VDMAs for the self righting wings, 1 perm 132 for the disc, which has been upped to 4 typhoon teeth so it's pretty lethal, and the armour even remains all Ti except the underpanel. Rather chuffed with this one.

And with that I have all slots for a 24 bot bracket filled! If I receive 6 more bots before Friday 17th though I'll expand it to a 32 bot bracket, if not then It'll have to be straight 24. Thanks for entering everyone who has so far nonetheless. Look forward to going to SBV!
