You can't have a flying unit that weighs more than 10 lbs, so I guess you'd have something like a flamethrower shooting downwards

Which would be completely ineffective, moreso than a normal horizontal flamethrower.  Flames burn upward.  You would end up cooking your own bot.

Think of the following (If your bots shell is some ferrous thing, and it's not a bar spinner)
I bring a Quad with a nice sized set of STRONG N Magnets for feet(Resting on the mother bot's Aluminium surface at match start)
It drops on your bot and "locks down".. then it turns on a tightly focused flame and commences burning. If it lands on a non-weapon part of your bot, it just might achieve burn-through before it toasts itself
