Because RA2/DSL/IF is the only experience I have now, and the Perm was in them...?

Real Robotics Discussion / Not all motors can spin in both directions?
« on: October 19, 2015, 06:18:27 PM »
Looking up the Perm 132 yielded this image, from the Robot MarketPlace:

The arrow seems to indicate the direction it spins, and seems to demonstrate so. Not all motors can spin in both directions, then? Can one have two Perm/PMGs spinning in opposite directions? Can you reverse its direction during operation?

I've only IRL experience building and driving one (Tamiya) 1/10 RC race car~

Middleweight/Heavyweight Dual Bot

Aluminum 10 and Plastic 1
The former, being more balanced in its weight distribution, can steer faster; the latter has better saws, but with severe understeer.

All-rounder and Glass Cannon respectively!

Axle loading...?

. Are there any bots that would require this when building realistically, that is, because of limitations in the game compared to real life?

Got it; Electro Falcon now upgraded with double the damage.
Forgot about the flippermakers though!

Twin variants using 132 and 80 each.

I can't get over its pretty falcon/bird shape ;v;

Got it, although there's a discrepancy in its two connection points; one of them is placed further in than the other. So I'm using two multi-extenders in the back.

It now looks even more like it does in Ironforge!

^It hit me in that I could use the other control slots for different orientations of my bot: normal, backwards (for driving the wedge) and inverted; should make driving less confusing.

Along my way, a few days ago, I found out - simply because I wanted to delete parts faster - that I could press the Delete key after selecting a component to remove it. I'm told already that F12 displays their collision boxes and F11 takes a screenshot. What other shortcut keys might I be missing out on? I would've liked to map my 'Inverted' controls to Home-Del-End-PageDown, but I don't want any key command conflicts.

And converted another bot from Ironforge for DSL; Steel 10 2-wheeler.
You can compare this with its parent model following this shortcut link to my Ironforge Showcase.

I am learning much from my tutelage here. Power feels gooood

Do the spikes actually work?  I thought they had normals.  I'm a fan of knives, personally, but I donno if they'd be any better.
I know they have normals; what I did was make sure their normals hit. I've basically made a small sawblade with a big enough radius. For the weapons to work, they have to spin inwards, because of the way I placed the spikes.

(Following: At time of writing, Youtube doesn't seem to be able to process my AVIs. Couldn't even play the one I sent to GTM's media section.
Maybe try the bot for yourself! ('v')-b )

:popcorn my first time hitting 500k in 3 min.
; however, the extender work built to adapt the spikes weighed it down (and the pole spikes are 2kg heavier as well), resulting in a lower DPS.

Thrackerzod, your words haven't been in vain (OvO)-b

Behold, the bird! Its smaller size and 2-wheel drive has been helpful with handling!
Oh, and it's Steel 10!

This weapon system orients the spikes such that their tips will slash into the target!

How shall I use the remaining kilograms... Or shall I simply leave them be for agility?

Have you tried putting the weapon motors in front of the front wheel motors?  Or possibly just upping the back motors and making it 2wd?

Frontmost weapon motors, I've tried, works well, but I would've really liked to make my wheelbase as long as possible
But 2-wheel-only bots, I've yet to try. So I'll try that now.

Craaig had a few qualms about them motor belts passing through the wheels. How about this one?
IRL it'd be done with 4 more gears in the middle.
Is it tournament-legal? :D

u mad, madman3?
Harmless trolling aside, I'm able to do it without having to move the slider all the way up first. I just move the slider all the way down, then click a little further below it.

Alright, awesome!

I've built another Electro Falcon to conform with Stock's mechanics. Still wishing for the shredding power of a HS, I made some special arrangements (relative to what I've been doing thus far previously) for its weapon system...

The Razor Tips should have enough coverage to prevent any strike upon its motors.  :claping

I'm gonna do Stock, hearing of Starcore V3.
Before I start, I don't seem to see any documented stats on Stock wheel grip. Are they the same as in DSL?

Balance is used as a term to indicate the, well, balance of efficiency. To make every component as useful as each other, they are all balanced to be as such, taking weight, DP, frequency, normals etc into consideration.

Daw, I know that, I'm a gamer too :> I was just confused between its two possible meanings.

Physical hitbox as you put it is a whole different matter, and would require some more in-depth work in the actual model of the component, and I'm not 100% sure if 123 would do that considering his understandable lack of interest in RA2. I've never actually come across this issue, either.

I notice even light/dark extenders havok when they come off bots (one's actually visible in the previous vid, snapped off of House Of Stars). I don't have this problem in DSL, only Ironforge. What could be causing this, they're both using the same Robot Arena 2.exe... I suppose if it's an issue not experienced by most people, it could be a problem with my Ironforge installation?

Bringing back experience from Ironforge, I have built something of mine that can, at last, win against Grog and Shrederator by points!

Balance, as in, weight balance?
It's only going to take a change of its physical hitbox, right?
I'd suppose savethewhales would know best. He's hanging out over at Robocraft ;)

Havoking Iron Spikes:

...Moving on,

learning that Iron Spikes have 4kg/1710HP/560DP compared to a Steel Blade's 5kg/1670HP/360DP, albeit the former having decreased coverage due to only being able to deal damage with their tips, I devised my personal fastest armour-destroying weapon so far. Woohoo!

(And thanks to ballast for balancing the handling!)

Some testing:

I like its streamlined shape zooming about the arena
___________________________________________________________

Addendum: I also learnt Iron Spikes are quite prone to havoking. When they fly off my discs and land on the floor they end up bouncing around. I've had to endure lots of program crashes driving this bot  Perhaps an update to Ironforge could be in order?

Further development! By splitting the upper and lower clusters, I double my 'rate of fire'. It's now effectively a shredder! Please let there be an Ironforge update, please let there be an Ironforge update...

Ballast! I forgot about that.

Here's the next one, with 8 blades per disc, no additional armour, and 399.9kg nominal weight + 50kg ballast at the back.

The Ninja Star is described as having '4 frequency'; I wonder what that means.
Well, tried it; didn't last as long as the Steel Blade clusters.
