| Recently, I was able to get myself a copy of Battlebots: The Official Guide. Overall, I'm not sure it was worth all the money I spent on. Yeah, some of the pictures are interesting, particularly when they show things from matches we didn't see (I think we can blame the killsaws for Greenspans' lose to Overkill), as are a few of the interviews, but overall I was a little letdown. However, it was valuable for another reason: it made me realize it was possible to figure out a few judges' scores, including for some big matches.
Although the book does not give me any official scores, it does give the bot's averages in the three categories. And if a bot had only one match where the judges decided the victor, well then the average is that match's score. Let's take a big match with such a result: Ziggo vs The Big B. Because that was Ziggo's only judge's match from Las Vegas 99 (the aggression, damage, and strategy scoring didn't appear till then), he only has one match to affect his average. So, here's the match's decision based on that. A|D|S Ziggo 6|8|10 Big B 9|7|5
I'm tempted to think that damage and strategy should be switched (the book like the old website lists the average for strategy before the one for damage, unlike how they are on the show and the actual scoring cards), but without proof of that, I think we can say that this is the final result.
Other matches can be found as well using this system and basic algebra. The bot Shaka had only one match and scored 10-1-5 (A-D-S) in that match. His opponent, Son of Whyachi. Because SOW had only two bouts determined by the judges (the book only goes up to Season 4.0), it's possible to figure the result of his second knowing his first and his average (7-12.5-9.5). So the result of the Biohazard vs. Son of Whyachi match is. A|D|S Sow 9|11|9 Bio 6|4|6
Now here's where my good news has to come to an end. What I really wanted to do was to use this same formula to figure out the scores for the majority of matches but I hit a few roadblocks. 1) The basics of Las Vegas '99 and Season 1.0 are stated nowhere. Sure, we have a few scores from Vegas and I can find out a small number from 1.0, but even a mere listing of which matches were KO's and which weren't isn't given to us. So, certain robots really can't be done. 2) The one biggest obstacle is the key difference between the average's listed in the book and the old website, the book gives me decimals, while the website rounds them. Thus, the numbers there are misleading (I was only able to figure out the SOW vs. Bio results because I had those decimals). And because the book only lists the averages as of season 4.0, I can't figure out the season 3.0 results and use them to help with season 4.0 (as we all know, Battlebots got a huge number of new builders starting in season 3.0). 3) Obviously, we can't do anything about 5.0.
So, basically we're limited in what we can figure out (we have all of season 2.0 (that's been known since forever), all results that were shown on television, as well as probably a scattered few in the other seasons, mainly from the first round). Still, I think this was something worth sharing. Below, I've included the results of the first two rounds from season 3.0 in the Superheavy weight division (I only listed the winner's score in A-D-S order and I apologize for the poor formatting). If you want to know what the asterisks mean, well those are the indicators the averages did not give a total that matched up with the one's on Jimmy Smentoski's website because of that decimal problem I mentioned above (I don't dare try to go any further than that). If I find time (and currently I don't have the book on me), I'll report back with more from what else I can find. | [/t][/t] [/t][/t] | | | | Matches | Winner | Loser | Aggression | Damage | Strategy | Superheavyweight season 3.0 | | | | | | Round 1 | Flailbot | Ballbreaker | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Hoobot | Steel Reign | 7 | 8 | 8 | | Trimangle | Battle Scar | 9 | 9 | 9 | | Jaws of Death | KillDozer | 8 | 9 | 12 | | The Junkyard Cog | Super Shark | FF | FF | FF | | Africanized Killer Bot | Cannibot | 9 | 9 | 9 | | OJ | Cyclone | 10 | 10 | 10 | | Phere | Mantaray | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Techno Destructo | Little Blue Engine | 7 | 9 | 7 | | CUAD The Crusher | Jack the Gripper | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Hammertime | Maximus | 9 | 11 | 11 | | Brainsters of Triskelion | The Probe | 9 | 9 | 9 | | JuggerBot | Neptune | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Armageddon | G.O.R.T. | FF | FF | FF | | The Judge | Iceberg | 12 | 14 | 12 | | Dawn of Destruction | The Swarm | 6 | 10 | 7 | Round 2 | Ogre | Flailbot | 11 | 10 | 9 | | Hoobot | Trimangle | 10* | 8* | 8* | | Whyachi | Hammerlock | FF | FF | FF | | Electric Lunch | Jaws of Death | 9* | 9* | 10* | | The Junkyard Cog | Africanized Killer Bot | Ko | Ko | Ko | | OJ | Dreadnought | 8 | 8 | 8 | | Phere | Go Postal | 8 | 8 | 9 | | Techno Destructo | Metalhead | 13 | 8 | 11 | | CUAD The Crusher | Overlord | 10 | 11 | 11 | | Hammertime | Brainsters of Triskelion | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Vladiator | JuggerBot | 10 | 10 | 8 | | Half Gassed | Armageddon | 8 | 8 | 8 | | The Judge | Wack-a-Tron | Ko | Ko | Ko | | No Apologies | Isoceles 1 | Ko | Ko | Ko | | Eradicator | Little Egypt | 12 | 14 | 13 | | Dawn of Destruction | Gyrax | 8 | 8 | 8 | [/t][/t][/t] |

Hey guys, how about Pressure Drop? It could literally stab through the arena, yet, had legs.
Built by the same guy who built Complete Control, so I have respect for it. And yes it should have won against ankle biter.
It did win against Ankle Biter, Pressure Drop is anything but the unluckiest bot. In fact, I'd call it the luckiest.

These finals make me cringle really. Radius fail. So cheap really. While Sage's victory was somehow expected, In EVERY SINGLE MATCH but one I4 fails, gets stuck in the hazard and gets flanked, making his victory MUCH easier. Click you really should have fixed that >:O And i got OUTWEDGED by R0B0 ???? Oh well, at least i won the champion's rumble :P But pretty disappointed by my little robot there still !
^agree with nary.
Bugged me as well, but what's done is done, and I still think that Sage had the better bot, and so Congrats to him.

All of the incarnations of Son of Whyachi after the original. Thread over.
@SKBT: whoa Cold Arbor is cool, I want to see that working properly...
Thread not over, Son of Whyachi wouldn't have done well any way. The original Whyachi's only win was by forefit, how could one expect the far weaker twin to do much better? To be honest, Son of Whyachi probably one of the few bots I dislike because Terry Ewert was pretty much abusing a rule when that thing was originally entered. remember these three also so i was thinking 66,666...% as well... but maybe he built more than three.

Here !
http://www.unknownak.20m.com/photo3.html Not all those bots were built by Mark Setrakian, Ronin I pretty sure wasn't (at least he wasn't its driver). Also Setrakian get two points in my book that makes up for some of his bots lack of combat wins, 1) its thanks to him that the Superheavy weight category came and 2) no bot has surpassed Mechadon in terms of coolness.

Eh, I didn't expect to win and to be frank, I wouldn't to win by havoks. Still, I did better than I expected and better than many others expected of my bot overall in this tournament and I can live with that.

I'm glad things went as expected. Good match Coolruner, it had me on the edge.
Next is G.K.'s Minifridge, yeah I'm not going to win this. Oh, and a few other thoughts Deinonychus sits on top of Kurt's carcass like a triumphant "gladiator" while Kurt is counted out. More like a dinosaur, my bot is named after one.In the third round Deinonychus loses hardly any teeth and quickly KO's Deinonychus, I didn't know my bot could commit suicide./spoiler]

Well, I kinda of upset that I lost to 1.8 but I'll say this to SSG, "Good game". It was a close fight that had me at the edge of my seat and I'm glad I lost that way (instead of being totally outclassed like last season). However, I'm glad Coolrunner's bot eliminated both bots that I did not want to fight for my first match in the loser's bracket. I actually could win if I don't break my teeth or "terrible claws" on the irons and then tear that chassis or motors to pieces (maybe the skirt hinges might give me an advantage) Thanks Click for the update.

Wow, I didn't think I would win. My next match against 1.8 is a toss up for me really because unless I tear off its extenders or or gut rip its chassis, my weapons will be destroyed in the long run and I'll lose by points. However, I hope I win, otherwise I probably going to have to fight Craig or Ounce's bot, and both will beat mine. I'll admit that feel slightly honored to be one of Click's dark horses, particularly because I consider myself to be a builder of below average ability. So thanks for that Click and thanks the update.

Well, I'm happy. I didn't think it would be that easy but I knew that if didn't win this round, I probably wouldn't win the next match in the loser's bracket. I highly doubt I can beat AtaxiA (although I have a better chance than I did beating Pita last season), but to be honest neither ZPN or Pyschoblade worry me, so its fine.) Overall, the matches were okay, although one of them did surprise me. Thanks for the update Click

Holy Crap, I did not see that coming. I know who I'm voting for best rookie now, unless ITI wins the championship.
Overall good fights, bet the next fights will be better.

Not sure what you're talking about. Heaven's Sawmill vs. Revenge Of Dr. Wham? Spearhead vs. Vela? The palindromes vs. Trojan Horse? Mildly surprising, but any of those fights could have gone either way.
But something like Insult to Injury vs. MIDF hasn't been seen since razor guy vs. Rampant Puppy Love. I think Alterer of Reality now has a good shot at Best Rookie... makes me want to try and improve ItI's design.
The matches I was referring to were yours and Venkos. I guess upset is the wrong word to use. I think shocking is a better term in that while I did not think either of you to get a clean sweep, it makes me think "wow I didn't expect that to happen, I need to watch the match again". All other matches were pretty much fair game, either way wouldn't have been a shocker. As for Alterer of Reality for best rookie, its a little too early for me to jump on that bandwagon. Now, if he beats Naryar in even in one match :-D; I wouldn't hesitate to climb on board.

I saw two big upsets not one, personally.
I think the next round will be great (there three I really want to see), although one match will be predictable for the next round.
