Title: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition
Post by: Mystic2000 on March 12, 2018, 12:38:28 PM
so, i've noticed, that the parsec hype basically died completely after the 2 weeks following it's discovery, this is rather saddening, and i'd like to "fix" that, with the first official parsec comp (i know, technically you could argue that RA Invitational is the first, but it seems dead and stuck in limbo)

HW 1V1 single elimination
IRL building
Arena will be the Containement Cube
8 spots max (starting small)
BFE and RA2CF will be allowed within reason
flatmotors and overkill servo being the only cheatbot2 components allowed
extenderbots will be banned to limit crashes and havok issues
controls will be either WASD or arrow keys
before the comp starts i will do a quick showcase of all the entrants to show that i haven't interfered with the bots in any way
havoks that cause a robot to glitch into the arena, or teleport OOTA will lead to a restart, as well as game crashes
thoughts ? rules that need to be added ? interest ? post it all

interesting idea, I think online battles strongly lend themselves to IRL building styles though. I could see extenderbots being an issue netcode-wise in that case. In any case, I'm interested to see how this goes!

yeah but IRL also leads to "IT'S TOO OP" or "IT'S NOT REALISTIC ENOUGH" or "IT'S GOT 4 TYPHOON TEETH IT'S TRYHARD WEAPON SPAM", and other salt and garbage like that i'd like to avoid having to deal with, extenderbots if they're really too much of a pain regarding lag and crashes/havok i could just ban them outright anyway

eh, I think IRL has been around long enough that what's acceptable and what isn't is fairly well defined. And I think the element of human control opens a lot more doors in the IRL ruleset than the DSL-S ruleset. Of course, it's your tournament, but that's my perspective on it FWIW.

eh fair point, online really changes the way the meta works, i've seen it when Thadzingo 3, which in normal AI tournaments is pretty broken, got ****ing humiliated in a Parsec match because it's opponent was just outdriving and outsped it at every turn, i guess i'll switch to IRL, will just ban extender bots for the sake of havok/crashes

well, apparently changing the style to !!!IRL!!! was the key to get people interested, might want to add an anti-salt rule

anyway, i need to start thinking of a date for the comp, a Saturday is where it's gonna happen, however i wanna leave a couple weeks for people to **** around with the new options given by human control, hour will also be an issue cause lol time zones

Are extender bots gonna be an issue?
Title: Re: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition
Post by: Badger on March 17, 2018, 04:40:37 AM
wait nvm I'm a fuccin retard. Parsec is just streaming the inputs from (and hosts's screen to) another user right? So netcode isn't even a factor and so extenderbots won't be an issue
Title: Re: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition
Post by: Mystic2000 on March 17, 2018, 04:52:23 AM
well there's still the issue of them tending to cause havok/crashes quite easily

I mean you can just have a havok restart rule for that, you're probably gonna need one anyway. I also personally think a rule where if a battery or the CB is knocked off a bot, the bot instantly loses. This prevents extenderbots with pixel chassis (i.e. all of them) from being invincible even after being completely taken apart.

i mean a human player doesn't have to completely tear apart an extender bot like AI and can leave it to be counted down when it's drive got ripped off

and i really don't wanna have to restart 20 times each match an extender bot is in

Oh yeah, we're gonna need some pinning rules
Title: Re: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition
Post by: Mystic2000 on March 17, 2018, 11:24:21 AM
good point, how about can only pin for 10 secs, and you can't pin again for 30 seconds ?

i'm also thinking to allow multibots since they're actually not gonna friendly fire every 2 seconds with human controls

You'd need a team for multibots. So there might be an issue with timezones

one thing we do on the Garry's Wars server when someone has a multibot is the builder drives one part and whoever wants to drives the other one, we could do that

Forgive my ignorance, but with the discussion of extender bots do you mean all bots that make use of extenders for weaponry/armor or am I mistaken?
Title: Re: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition

extenderbots are basically bots using a pixel-sized chassis and making the entire bot out of an extender frame, while this allows for a lot more shape options, it also makes for bots that tend to make the game crash or cause havok problems much more frequently than a "normal" chassis bot

10 days since last update of mine.... well fantastic, i'm thinking of 14th April for the comp date, still need to see for an hour cause lel timezones

>checks date,.
Okay im good to go.
Maybe split into multiple hosts for multiple regions? NA/SA, EU, Asia?
Also ye an idea, as i have a controller, maybe a house bot?
Title: Re: Artemis Robot Challenge - Parsec IRL HW competition
Post by: Mystic2000 on March 28, 2018, 03:23:24 AM
house bots can **** off, they're BS magnets and i don't wanna deal with that
multiple hosts would make the organisation needlessly annoying, and parsec is pretty low lag anyway

wow i'm awful at this, i keep abandoning this ****ing thread lol, so... i got a date and hour tho, which is 28th April and 8PM GMT, which leaves people 2 weeks to **** around with the new possibilites online play gives, would this date and hour be okay or ?

Nah. Same power as beta servo, just small and light

oh, yeah guess i can allow that

okay, one last question before i open signups/registeration for good, should i enter a bot myself ? asking cause obviously there is always the whole "host rigging" possibilty, not saying that i will obviously but i can imagine salty players throwing accusations of that and quickly having a massive argument ****ing the entire comp up

Tbh, i would keep my bots rather as byebots. But if you really, amd i do mean REALLY want to enter your own tournament, do it.
