Mine is about to run out and I need suggestions. I bought some for like 20 bucks and it absolutely sucked. It would virus and spyware scan weekly and never catch anything but tracking cookies which leaves me to believe it didn't do a thing.

plz halp

Don't use: norton or mcafee

AVG would be your best bet.

*agrees with kill*

Norton is heavy as an elephant, slowing computer down. I know from experience, my computer startup speed and overall processing speed during normal use went up alot when I switched to AVG.

AVG is indeed free, but if you want a firewall out of it too, you need to buy it.

Avast and Ad-Aware real-time scanner
Windows Firewall behind a secure router
Firefox addons Ad Block Plus and No Script!
Spybot S&D hosts file blacklist

when infected use:

Malware Bytes
AVG Anti-Rootkit
Combo Fix
Hijackthis
CCleaner
leaving this space blank until RA3 is released.

Ad Block Plus is excellent, I find NoScript a little bit too overkill and paranoid.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is the sh** when it comes to spyware removal.
Combofix,  Hijack This! and CCleaner are all very good, too.

it's that time of the year again and I need to hook my computer up completely (virus protection, firewall, etc), anyone have good suggestions? It doesn't have to be free, but I'm not looking to spend a ton.

I could only really suggest Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It is free, and it's very good. I've also got Microsoft Security Essentials, but I'm not sure how much that would cost.

I use a CCleaner/Spybot S&D/AVG Free combo for my security. Seems fine.
