diversify your bands!

i admittedly had to squeeze in a couple of xxscenecorexx bands from my highschool days because they admittedly had an effect on my taste to this day (heey number twelve  i liked you before all the fringe bang kids heard you signed to eyeball!) ...and i look back 'em them with fond memories, but nowadays its mostly as described below

play faster!! thrash punk, hardcore and grind
indie twee pop jingle-jangle
motown doo-wop/bluesy scat
and any hip hop with droney, spacey beats

but my actual music collection runs the full gamut from sunshine dream pop to ignorant thug nonsense to free jazz death white noise to my mom's country bumpkin skee-daddle and i've got a little spot in my heart for everything

im honestly missing a whole ton of stuff in this and wish i could fit more cause this is mostly dragged from a nearly five year old itunes playlist that ive updated sparsely since then, id like to slide some jim croce in there and a few other things but i might have to just make another one

this one was kind of thrown together with no particular order anyways, although the top four are definitely all time faves

its cool to see all the deathy bands i like that i thought no one else listened to popping up. demelich suprised me! i dig them. i also forgot to include all my mclusky cds, their whole discography could fit into my list. incredible band. i think everyone here could find a mclusky song they would like. i also forgot to include anything by torche or floor. two more full discographies that belong somewhere in that picture. i saw baroness pop up on a few of these, definitely go find some torche and work your way backwards into the bassy, doomy sludge that is the almighty floor! you'll like it, promise!

i do struggle to see what's so diverse about a lot of these top 50s though. 40 disks all in the same genre with a few bleeps and bloops and that one rap cd you like does hardly a diverse collection make. some of yall are honest with it though. some people just have that one sound that gets their juices flowing, no disrespect there. honestly it's probably just the years of having my eyes roll back into my head when i hear someone say they like 'everything but rap and country' and their itunes reads like an alt rock station with a slight punk lean and a curveball or two

Okay, just to be clear about the diversity of the genre's
My Album list includes
Pop-Punk, Metalcore, Progressive Hardcore, Hardcore Punk, Melodic Hardcore, Classic Rock, Alternative Rock/Grunge, Funk/Rock, Ska, and more, none of which show a majority

i wasnt targeting you specifically my dude. i feel like id seen it a few times throughout the thread. but, admittedly, it's not like there's much that falls outside the alt-metal to punk paradigm there. we can cut up rock a dozen different ways in the same way you could for, say, electronica (jungle, house, trance, drum and bass, hardcore, and so on) but to view it from an neutral, all-encompassing perspective; to someone who's looking at the big picture (let's say pop, rock, jazz, blues, r&b, electro, country, classical, world, and noise), you'd be a rock listener, just like said example dude would be an electronica listener. ya dig?

not trying to be a hater, i like a bunch of those bands. i wish you'd do one with the album names on there so i could read it a little closer!!

honestly, looking back on my list, i could probably apply the same critique to myself. i think i'd actually left out a few entire genres in my haste to put together a top 50 before i hit the sack. i was in a rock mood. i don't think i threw in any good representative example of my motown/blues/r&b collection (i ****in love me some jackson 5, marvin gaye, gladys knight and the pips, etc.) and i probably completely overlooked electronica and country. it's also, admittedly, hard to have a favorite noise record... you have to be in a certain, strange kind of mood to throw on some hanatarash. it happens though!

i let my boyfriend handle the classical in the house, there's far too much there and i couldn't even begin to catalog it let alone name my favorite pieces. he's more knowledgeable than i am with that end of the musical spectrum, and it's all on cd rather than my itunes.

aaanyways... much love, music brother! i aint pickin on ya, so don't take it to heart, k?  :heart_smiley:

*Snipped for shortness*

I couldnt help but laugh at "Anal Cunt - Defenders of the Hate. The fact that a band with that name even exists is just brilliant

Anyways, my top 50 (Top 4 are correct place, others are mostly just mixed up)
