I saw Babymetal live at Download this weekend and they were rubbish :P

How so, poor vocals/instrumentals, poor showmanship or what?


Surprises me since they're so focused on their live performances.

I think, because their stuff turns into pop when they start singing, they picked the songs that have the least singing in for more metal. However, that still has an adverse effect because they're doing their dances and stuff when they aren't singing but us metalheads don't really take interest in that.

It could have been their performance but their rather lacklustre performance doesn't reflect well on them as a band, to me.

they're not my thing personally cus the separation of the elements of their sound is too clear. it's a nice idea but the components don't gel

maybe it is, if they didn't claim to make metal and if they weren't so overrated i'd dismiss it as another bad pop band. the fact that people call it metal annoys me, sounds more like a pop song, no good metal riffs in anything i've heard from them at all.

I like them because I love the guitars in Road of Resistance and Megitsune, and I'm not a fan of basically any metal singers, so their more accessible lead singer is more appealing to me. Shame it's all in moon runes.

fair enough, but to me the guitars dont sound like they are doing anything special, only sticking to the basic chord pattern

In agreement with playzooki, the instrumental is pretty generic and boring and the vocals just annoy me. Wouldn't say it's not metal though.

In Vain are definitely one of the best melodeath bands out there.

probably my favourite meshuggah album now, nice mix of intensity and the usual weird grooves
