GTM Music Hall Of Fame
« on: August 17, 2012, 07:51:44 AM »
Since we have a hall of shame we might as well have a hall of fame.
In this case we won't induct people or artists, unless we end up having a lot of similar opinions. Instead, just state people or bands which fit whichever categories you feel like answering. If you can't answer a category, just skip it.

Best Band/artisy:
Best Album:
Best Song:
Best Guitarist:
Best Drummer:
Best Bassist:
Best Vocalist:
Best Keyboardist:
Best DJ:
Best Musical Performance In A Song (like what song impressed you most in terms of how well the instruments were played):
Best Debut Album:
Most Influential:
Most Catchy:
Most Br00tal:
Most Progressive:
Best Live Band:
any other categories will be accepted if appropriate

you should join sputnik music, they hate literally every band on Sumerian :P
But yeah Mikael is actually a wicked growler in Bloodbath. Shame that Bloodbath is kinda meh though.
You should try Atheist and Gnostic btw.  Also why are you guitarists all chug men (though the revocation dude is pretty good and can thrash pretty well)?
Also seriously bro get out of the "progressive" (I mean that veryyyy losely) core pit. You can find much better and more original prog in the old school (see my Best Album choice).

My opinion is kinda neutral on Sumerian, mostly because I still listen to Periphery and Born of Osiris once in a while. But yeah, the djent fanbase is even more obnoxious than the dark side of the brony fandom.

For some reason old school metal just never clicked to me (I mean I know DEI's one of the best albums and all, but I wouldn't play it regularly). Anything that's too modern (post-progressive technical djentcore or anything that has too much electronic elements) is usually a turnoff.

AND I LIKE CHUG STUFF. Also, The Human Abstract is more tiddly-widdly than chug (I don't even remember them chugging that much at all o_o)

Also, I'm in my BTBAM phase right now, so yeah. :P

Destroy Erase Improve is real tasty though. It's got coherance and the riffs to keep it interesting. When you need to kill your coherance factor that generally shows when your riffs are going wrong.
BTBAM is alright IMO but Colors was an album which wasn't especially cohesive and the riffs were kinda bland. I forgave Cryptopsy on Cold Hate, Warm Blood for the jazz sections because the song had sexy tasty riffs and an awesome solo (though the vocals were kinda crap).
Chug sometimes works but I will never be satisfied by songs where the main riffs is 7/8 chugging or whatever. 7/8 weird angular riff is just more interesting. As I said, check Atheist and Gnostic.
The first THA song I heard chugged instantly btw :P

Don't really know enough about music to have a say here, if I did it would be filled with the usual generic rock stuff :P
