I like this band. Do you?
-
I like the melodies, don't much care for the lyrics.
-
Earlier stuff was awesome, but today they seem too busy to actually produce good music at the rate that they used to.
-
used to be good, suck now.
-
used to be good, suck now.
It's the opposite for me.
-
i like everything american idiot and forward. dookie and whatever sh** they had earlier blows
-
I like bits of all their work, from 1039/Smooth all the way through to 21CB. Favourite song's probably Macy's Day Parade, followed up by Letterbomb.
-
I think Basket Case really showcased how skilled this band could be (The Drummer and Bassist to be specific).
-
I think American Idiot is the best song... And Broken Dream... They were in the lyrics, but not sure is it the song name.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams is what you're thinking of.
-
I have all of Green Days Albums up until American Idiot.. didnt all that much care for them beyond then..
Older stuff is good.. but Holiday was a long time favourite
-
Thanks Foxy <3
-
21st Century Breakdown is the best IMO.
-
Thanks Foxy <3
'tis alright.
-
Peacemaker is one of my favorites.
-
i hate greenday so much it hurts sometimes.... everybodys different i supose
-
Early stuff was good because it actually was punk rather than their newer pop-like rendition. 1039, Kerplunk and Insomnia were damn good.
-
I shuld put one of my friends onto thiss thread. He loves the band incredibly.
I love the song Last Night on Earth, but am meh with the rest of it.

Pop?
-
It's so much poppier, especially when you compare to stuff like..

I don't see it

I don't see it
Uses pop hooks, pop lyrics, is definitely more "emo" in terms of its audience, slower paced.
-
I see it more fast paced, in some parts.
How is it emo?

Song titles, lyrics, even album titles. 21st Century Breakdown is pretty much by far the best example. Most of them have different themes to the older ones that specifically attract a certain audience in particular (I'm not including you in that group, don't worry).
-
Which songs?
-

Heaviest/punkiest song I could think of on 21CB - compare to Platypus, etc.
-
Which songs?
Viva Gloria, Last Of American Girls, Restless Heart Syndrome, Last Night On Earth, 21 Guns (musically), See The Light, American Eulogy, and several other (it's a huge album:P) songs feature any of the elements I described.
-
I love most of those.
-
American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are amazing. Rest is meh to blah.
I do love Minority also though. My face of anything else they've done.
-
i used to be a big green day fan, then i discovered metallica and megadeth. xP
-
Lol, pretty much true for me too.. except Metallica and Megadeth came after I got into other music that came after GD. Oh timelines.
-
Blegh, Green Day.
-
They're pretty decent, theres better out there but theres also worse
It's also fun to cover American Idiot on a prank call
-
Loved all the heavy/ electric remakes of there acoustic songs they did for Bullet in a Bible..
To bad they didnt make studio releases of them..
-

I was never big on Green Day. I was pretty much brought up on shredder rock, Rob Dougan, and some alt-pop/rock (Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse). Then I got into Megadeth, and then Carcass, then Morbid Angel, and then it only got heavier :P
-
I liked Green Day in high school. Still crave their poppy hooks every now and again. They're not a punk band, though. There's simply no agression.
Real punk:

I have to admit that I liked this song... and part of me still does today, along with most of their older stuff, newer stuff, not so great.
-
There old stuff's pretty good.

How?
new green day's turned into the deluded pop crap that you normally hear on the radio.
-
It's fine.
-
TBH the band has kinda committed suicide commercially when it comes to the older fanbase. Frankly their new stuff is immature but completely lacking in their old aggression.
-
I think their newer stuff is better.
-
Out of curiosity, did you become a fan in the last few years? That would explain it. If you get into a band, you usually like their current era most, because that's what you heard to get into them..
(This logic doesn't always work - I got into Muse just after Black Holes and Revelations was released in 06, but still prefer Origin of Symmetry from 01)
-
No, this year.
-
...Somehow I think that this year would come under what Craaig said, and supports his point.
-
And his point adds to what?
-
That your reason for liking the more modern stuff is because of the fact that you were introduced to their more modern stuff. In the same way that people who played Final Fantasy VII as their first Final Fantasy game are more likely to prefer that, whereas people who started earlier on (i.e. the 'bigger fans') prefer Final Fantasy VI. I thought it was rather obvious what he was implying; namely that if you listened to the more modern stuff first, you are more likely to prefer the more modern stuff. Assuming, of course, that you listened to the more modern stuff before listening to the older stuff.
-
So that was pointless?
-
Hmm... I'm not sure what you mean by that, so I am going to assume that you were saying that Craaig's point was pointless. If that is the case, he made that point as a counter argument to those believing the more modern stuff to be 'gay', or just expressing a general dislike. He was pointing out a possible reason for you liking it. If your last post was relating to something else, then expand a little, because I can't really think of anything else it could be talking about.

Like this:

I think if I say that I like the newer stuff, does it matter why?
-
Hmm... whether it matters or not is sometimes irrelevant, people will generally try to find a reasoning behind everything, especially if it is something that they are kind of against. I personally don't believe that it really matters that much, but Craaig's hypothesis is rather interesting. Besides, without reasoning, there will generally always be someone there to question why you feel that way. In all honesty, I don't really think it matters, but find the psychology behind things to be a rather interesting subject.
-
I made the point because everyone's like 'NO THIS IS BETTER' 'NO THIS.' etc. I got into them through American Idiot but prefer Dookie, etc personally.
Part of the point I was making was showing they have, as madman put it, 'committed suicide' to the old fanbase, but gained another much wider one. I'd prefer the smaller select fanbase if I was in a band but if you want the money, you know XD
