Ok, this is probably a stupid idea, but I'm gonna post it anyway.

I was thinking of doing my own tournament because why the hell not, and decided to plan it out in a similar vein to Craaig's Robot Wars 2005 idea, by basically building a successor to a competing robot, but this time in either Robot Wars and/or Battlebots.

However, your choices of robot to build is limited, in that the competing robot must have been completely trashed up and destroyed in their final appearance, hence the new entry is an 'Orphan'.





RULES
- DSL 2.1
-Heavyweight/HW (Up to 800.0kg)
- IRL
- WhamettNuht's Robot Wars 2013 AI Pack Arena
- 3 minute matches
- No NARmour
- No AAM, NCR glitch, Trov Glitch, etc
- You are allowed to BFE the chassis height, but no other BFE allowed.
- You cannot be entered until a bot is received and accepted.
- You may upgrade a robot any number of times until signups close.
- I will AI your robot for you, if you don't know how. However, don't complain if I don't do it right, I only have basic AI skills.

BATTLES
- 16 Robots, in Robot Wars Series 3 format. Single Elimination
- 8 1v1 fights in round 1, then 4 fights, etc.
- 1 Havok restart, 2nd time eliminated
- There will be grudge matche requests and possibly a rumble (time permitting) after the tournament.

Interesting idea, but some sort of list of acceptable bots that were"trashed" might be a good idea.

I'm game for pretty much everything related to Robot Wars.  But I'm concerned about the lack of possibilities.  I mean, the majority of possibilities are joke bots like Granny's Revenge.  And quite a few of the most memorable destroyed bots (Splinter, Shapeshifter, Hammerhead, Iron Awe) weren't orphaned.


I don't know if this could be considered stepping on Craaig's toes, but why not just do the same thing as him, only with the inclusion of Battlebots and HW instead of MW?

Define trashed.

Personally, i would do this as any robot that stopped working in its final match. So getting flipped over doesnt count.

just make sure to clear up if "realism rule" refers to dsl-s or dsl-irl. i can tell that it is irl because of the cheat parts allowed (nobody would be foolish enough to allow cheatbot in standard, lol) but some newer users might not be able to.

I believe Chaos 2 would be a big robot to make a successor to. Maybe someone could make Quasar?

Robot Wars examples would be the likes of Sir Chromalot, Robogeddon, Milly Ann Bug, Chaos 2....Splinter would NOT be an option as another model was made and entered Series 5. It must be the last appearance that it was destroyed.

Battlebots examples will need a bit more time to be researched, as I don't know much about them, but with only 16 entrants (my first tournament) it shouldn't be too hard to sort out.

I can draw up a list if people want, and more informative rules.

If it was their last televised appearance, that's all that matters. Splinter, as said, would not qualify. Shapeshifter could be a free reign to build anything, as both machines were vastly different. I might make an exception and not allow Iron Awe though, they're onto 7 now.....

The way things are going, I'm willing to bet I could get this through signups and SBV before Craaig even makes his SBV thread. 

I might take away some of the Robot Wars association by making it in the DSL Tournament arena though.

Yeah, I think the best course of action would be to provide us with a list of at least 24 acceptable choices - optimally you want a different bot for each person, without anyone getting stuck with a really crappy choice.

Bots like Iron Awe and X-Terminator are going to be a grey area, because while they were trashed on their last televised appearance, they were fixed afterwards.

Love the concept for the tournament. But I feel that Resetti has a point of bots like Iron Awe and X-Terminator. The way its described in the rules (with us knowing they are subject to change) Is that those bots could be allowed as they were trashed in their last televised appearance. but I could sort of see the debate
