It's 6 or 7 years late but who gives a damn, I've decided to make my last hurrah with Robot Arena 2, find that inner "Tutorial Man", and relearn AI-ing to revive the previously canceled version "1.7" of the RFS (Dracophile) AI Pack. There's not much left to expand upon, just more teams - and I don't know how many I'll add, I'll just keep making them until I get tired of it.
I know there's some AI programs out there that do AI-ing for you, but I'd rather code this by hand to keep with that authentic feel, for me at least.
Originally when robots for V1.7 were being designed, they were all parted out to various modders for "cameo" appearances, and there's also an "unseen AI" download pack full of 7 BOT files here: https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Arena2/AI_Packs/RFS/RFS_unseenAI.zip (https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Arena2/AI_Packs/RFS/RFS_unseenAI.zip)
Will I include them in the V1.7? I don't know. Maybe? Maybe not. Let me see if they suck or not.
SOME QUESTIONS PEOPLE MAY HAVE ABOUT THIS PACK:
Q: Why the sudden rekindled interest in Robot Arena 2 modding?
A: Because. BattleBots was canceled again and I'm mad and I feel like getting my fix again.
Q: Who is Dracophile?
A: Dracophile is the screenname I go by now because I hated RFS. This pack's title will have the Draco thing in parentheses.
Q: If I have downloaded/installed (super duper doo doo man parts pack 4000) will V1.7 work for me?
A: Probably not, I would use a fresh install just to be safe. No guarantees of cross-compatibility with other packs.
Q: Will I need to have patched the game with your previous AI packs to use V1.7?
A: No, this is an all-encompassing download pack that you can play right out of the box with all of the previous bots included.
Q: Will there be any secrets included in this pack?
A: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THERE ARE NEVER ANY SECRETS IN ANY OF MY PACKS EVER. SHUT UP.
Q: When will this be done?
A:  <--- (That's :rapeface2000: from RFSHQ, actually, and originated from Club Penguin forums as :scary:, the equivalent of :D in the game.)
I will post teasers/promos as they become available.
You can consult the global RFS AI Pack page on the Wiki here for general information and the history of the upgrade:

Good to see you rebuilding !
-
If you need some mass re-AIing, i'm willing to help.
-
Sounds great!
So many people have enjoyed the feel and originality of your packs over the years. Some even wanted to continue where you left off (I can remember at least two in the time I've been here).
There have been many new AI scripts added since your last installment so be sure to check out the BBEANS AI Pack (found here (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/robotarena.htm)) and the general AIing thread (found here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,1103.0.html)). There is more scattered throughout the forums but for the most part, the major ones were included in the above places.
Edit: Click's improved ram and charge tactics would also make all the AI slightly smarter (found here (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,3113.0.html)).
-
will the bot I just sent you be in it? it's got that classic feel :D
-
My RA2 crashes every time I try saving a robot (which just caused me to lose 2 decent designs). I'm going to play with it and reinstall and see if that fixes it.
edit: Not sure what the issue was but a fresh re-install and patched with only the RFS AI Packs and the AI components patches works.
-
this is great to hear your getting back into it all
-
I'm going to put a little more effort into skinning most of these robots (the previous 180 were all skinned using the in-game editor). I've got most of one team completed - consisting of the 6 robots "Patriot Act", "Going Commando", "Executioner EX", "Menace 2 Society", "Gammarazer", and "Wimpy 2K10". If you can guess where all 6 are inspired from and based upon you get bonus points.
I've also put some work into the "10 Yr. (-1) Anniversary Edition Thumperizer". It's pretty effective thus far. I'm thinking about reskinning some of the components used to have gold-plated editions though. :P
-
they are rebuilds of RA1s AI
patriot
Comando
Executioner
Urben menace
Gamerazie
Wimpy
lol Ithought about and will rebuild topknot :)
-
One thing I wanted to do in the first AI pack(s) was re-envision some of the stock AI into bigger meaner machines. I figured that going after the top dog, EMERGENCY, and making it even more of a frustrating opponent than it already is seemed like a good idea. He has no paint job yet, but here is "The 'Merge":
For the other 5 robots getting the makeover I was considering Bear as the other HW, Revenge and Barbershop Chop (that secret robot and the one from the RA.com website) for the MWs, and Ninja and someone else for the LWs.
Thus far everything I aim to produce is something possible in real life (theoretically you could cut slots through "real" ram plates etc etc etc let's not get technical here), although two robots specifically, The Merge and Thumperizer Anniversary both utilize that old school "stacked" motors trick to give them a little extra edge in being tougher accordingly.
edit: For the sake of hilarity, Wimpy 2K10 ;)

I'd like to see some older bots improved.
1K could esily become better with a wider stance, the big one with irons, and a few others with slight adjustments as well.
Doubting it'll ever happen though...
-
I'll go through however many teams I decide on and then see if there are any existing robots that are in DIRE need of any tweaks and I'll remake them if it's not terribly difficult.
-
Hell yeah RFS. I like that you try to make the bots realistic, those glitchbots I see everywhere are getting boring.
-
^^ QFT ^^
I look forward to playing it, RFS :D
-
lol I cant wait to fight wimpy
youshould do scooterpie and topknot
-
wow gay ass you phail i'd kisck you're ass with my hs it's got 2 saw blade ans 2 nifties rfs packs suck i killed 4000 rads with a rammer I am the ra2 king i took down clockwork hydra first time with a bot with a chewblade
-
Here's a promo image for you all, one complete team thus far. It's not named, but it's the RA1 recreations.
There's a few other odds and ends that are being worked on, the "Twilight Foundry PLATINUM" team (6 rebuilds of my most popular/best robots) needs to have skins made before it's done (LaunchPad 2, No Escape Reincarnated, HACK!, CrapBot: The Reckoning, Balls of Steel Revolution, and Thumperizer 10 Yr (-1) Anniversary).
The "RA2 Greats" team (for lack of a better name), aka the Stock AI Revisited team, is also "done", the robots I ended up remodeling are:
- Roly Poly ==> Holy Moly (still a rammer)
- Ninja ==> Sam R. Rye (now a thwack-bot)
- Barbershop Chop ==> Close Shave (now a hammer bot)
- Revenge ==> Best Served Cold (double the weaponry)
- Bear ==> Uncare Bear (now a vertical spinner)
- Emergency ==> The 'Merge (still a flipper, just even more annoying)
-
nice to see remakes of the old bots
does anyone else have the disc and packaging? not the downloaded one?

Mine's from the store. I bought it the day it came out - I had it reserved. :P I lose the CD from time to time but it resurfaces after some searching,
-
i have the CD+packaging :D
-
I've got the CD and packing.. that box is excellent. It's maybe without a that goes inside though. Ya'know, to keep things in place.
Don't have RA1's original packaging though. I end up putting it into a single paper CD "case" with RA2 and my Nintendo USB adapter setup disk.
-
will any of the old bots be upgraded?
-
yeah, LAN mower and ultrabong 2s would be teh col
-
I love noobs. I really do.
-
will any of the old bots be upgraded?
I'm thinking about it, since some of the robots from the V1.5 "Radio F Software" team have been rebuilt into better versions for the new pack (LaunchPad and Thumperizer have new versions in the "Twilight Foundry PLATINUM" team). I'm considering either making 1 or 2 teams of updated robots from the older packs, or alternatively going back into the previous versions and fixing some minor bugs and problems that some bots have.
-
The second idea is better.
-
OM NOM NOM NOM
just a thought, detonator vs thumperizer vs cement truck vs crap bot 300 is the most entertaning match on the planet
-
Here's two Heavyweights from the pack. Neither one has a skin yet, pardon the diamond plated steel.
Steamroller - Second Chance team
(http://i48.tinypic.com/2exwpcg.jpg)
Steamroller missed the boat in the previous installments of the AI pack. It's making its Robot Arena 2 debut in the V1.7 pack sporting a giant armored drum to make up for lost time and make inverted pancakes out of all who oppose.
+: Heavy weaponry can deal out punishment for extended periods before failure.
-: Weaponry lacks the ability to score "big" hits for points.
The Fursecutioner - Team Blast Works
(http://i49.tinypic.com/10773gz.jpg)
When The Fursecutioner isn't busy shredding the occasional opponent who crosses it, it's busy doing what it does best - trolling furries. The Fursecutioner's weaponry is capable of blasting apart even the toughest heavyweights while its roll cage makes for a smooth ride.
+: Small, compact, hi-speed weaponry makes for a fast spin up time and less recoil when dealing blows.
-: Exposed motors and roll cage make the robot prone to falling apart in extended fights.
-
steamroller is awesome, its very rare to have a robot that depends on ramplates.
-
I too quite like steam roller.
I havn't gotten the rfs ai pack before but It looks quite fun and I shall get it soon.
Also, you work for miniclip? nice.
-
I like Steamroller - now if only it could deal decent damage as well...
-
I like The Fursecutioner.
-
As do I.
-
As does G.K.
-
Steamroller works like a crawler then?
Could be better if it had a wedge... The force of the motors pushing the wedge down, shredding opponents....
-
4 wheels dude
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,,, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I like the fursicutioner
-

Steamroller has wheels, two of them are inside the bot and the other two are guarded by a Ram Plate.
-
A crawler works by flattening opponents under their weapons.
Yours works in a similer way.
-

Ah, in that case the drum doesn't spin in the direction you think it does, it spins upwards "in reverse" instead of crushing opponents like a conventional steamroller would.
-
I'm sad now.
-
it's an easy fix
-
RFS, you should start a showcase.
-
he said he does'nt want to deal with
sledges are ghey
axes suck
USE THE EFFE GLITCH
ballasts are teh ghey, put more stuff in
it's 4 kg underweight, rebuild it to fix it
to much chassi space, REBUILD IT
LISTEN
I don't blame him, I build tons of "classic" bots like the ones '03-'06 that only he has seen.......... and you may never will.......
-
RFS, you should start a showcase.
I posted one a while ago in the Stock forum. I don't have anything new to add to it save for what I am putting together for this AI pack. The pictures I have left of all of my robots are ones that I've posted and reposted many times in the past, there's nothing new. =/
edit: It seems all of the pictures I posted in my gallery thread were hosted on GatorAIDS and have been deleted. I'll re-upload them later or something.
The kinds of stuff I put together are largely unappreciated these days anyways, I have no desire to post a showcase because I know in doing so SOMEONE is eventually going to come around and red-line my designs, which I do not appreciate.

*Witty remark about Sage or Naryar*
-
I APRECIATE THEM
I love you're bots, there creative, and bad*ss, and funny, and fun to fight. I just faught bit rot and loled the whole time
-
Don't really have a teaser post for ya'll, I have a question though, perhaps for someone experienced in the realm of glitches and physics mishaps of the game.
I've got a Middleweight robot (Excelsior Stretch) that... well it has 3 pistons stacked as one to give its weapon an insane reach. It has two of these setups, actually. The robot works fine in the Garage, but when it's put into a fight as a human controlled robot it just vanishes at the start of the fight and is counted out. Any reason why? Or should I scrap the overly bizarre weaponry in favor or something else? Thanks.

Try a different connection.

I know a cool glitch bot you could turn it into
attatch a T conector on the side to a piston, then attatch another piston to it, if the conection point diaspeers, you did it right. And hopefully, it will havoc around the arena when you fire it. It worked for me, at least.
He DOESN'T WANT A HAVOK EXPLOSION, READ THE GOD DAMN POST!!!!

That's not the effect I want. I wanted it to be a pneumatic weapon with a crazy long reach to it.

Do you mean attaching the set of pistons elsewhere on the robot? The current way I have it set up is with a 90o Baseplate Anchor, one vertical 20cm Black Extender, then the first piston and two others with an Iron Spike on the end. It's setup like this so the pistons hang under the robot and the spikes are pointing out the front.
-
yes.
I think that may work...

Alright, I'll try that out the next time I work on some designs and rebuilds. Thanks! :)

Chaining pistons is tempting the gods of havok.
Although it never happened for my DSL HW chained poker - Patriot 2...

Hehe, I tempted the Havok Overlord with that one HW I built, Centrifuge of Pain - it was basically the Project Trinity glitch. :P

RFS AI Pack V1.7 will be launching with "DLC" (Downloadable Content) - a popular classic multiplayer MW design of mine called "The Distracting Machine" will be included in the pack as a PG-13 version, I'll release a separate smaller download to turn it into its original NSFW design... and just for the heck of it I'm thinking about a "Special Dracophile NSFW Edition" patch as well. :P Same bot, just with a different paintjob.
-
Not the only one that puts NSFW content on his bots... *looks at ACAMS*
-
Not the only one that puts NSFW content on his bots... *looks at ACAMS*
I think I may have seen the robot you are making a reference to, but it's all a blur. :P The original "Distracting Machine" was just the standard "Dracophile Edition" and was used quite often whenever I played MP with some folks from RFSHQ but I figured I should PROBABLY tone it down for the AI Pack (and move the paintjob to target a much broader audience - haha "broad" get it) and let the players have the option to unlock "topless mode" or whatever if that's what they want. :P
I've built a lot of bots since my last teaser, they just don't have any skins or anything nice on them yet. I'd like to post some but I feel like they just look kinda ugly (most of them just have the default armor skin for the armor they have, or they are white). I was gonna do skinning LAST because designs were more important to me, and there's a lot of new designs, both wacky and formidable (and some that lay somewhere in the middle). After having AI'd a flamethrower bot for the DSL pack I've included one in here ("Toasty" from the RoboWarriors team), I've also gone through and made a better "stomper" bot that REALLY gets around with minimal damage to itself ("Creep" from Team MegaSparkRiotStorm), I fixed the crazy reach pneumatic weapons of Excelsior Stretch (also from MegaSparkRiotStorm I believe), and I've also made an obligatory "saw blades for wheels" rammer ala Ginsu ("Blade Runner" from MegaSparkRiotStorm and "Super Blade Runner" from the Cutlery Corner team).
My plan with this pack is to just build and build until I'm completely out of everything I've ever wanted to do in RA2, to be a super "catch-all" kind of pack to tie everything up. There's still a LOT of Robot Arena 2 players, which is surprising because I'm amazed this game has this much staying power - which means that there will always be new players. My original packs kind of set the standard for new players who were tired of the Stock AI and wanted some new challenges, but nothing too hard, and I really like that. People like battlebotsboy on YouTube and others who email me at random asking about my pack make me smile because I feel like I'm at least remembered. So, yeah. No official word on the number of new teams and bots, just "Lots" for now.
edit: Ahahaha, "Lots & Lots (& Lots & Lots & Lots & Lots) of Bots".

Excelsior Stretch, that's a reference to Vigilante 8 2nd offense, right?

Excelsior Stretch, that's a reference to Vigilante 8 2nd offense, right?
Why yes, yes it is. :P It's named after Lord Clyde's electricity-toting limousine. Good eye. ;) There is another 6-wheeled robot named Moon Trekker lurking about as well. It has a gimmicky satellite dish for show and some arms for lashing out at other robots with.
V8 is one of my favorite games of all time. The day it came out for Xbox Live Arcade I was all over it and nailed every single achievement (except the multilayer one since I don't have Live Gold) that night.
-

I only have one little bot that might be topless.

They have that on xbox live now? I had no idea. I still have my original Playstation verison kicking around somewhere. With carmageddon/roadtrip/twisted metal/etc etc. :P Car combat certainly never gets old.

Oh god yes, I love vehicular combat games. Vigilante 8 was released on XBLA as "V8: High Octane" I think, and it borrows both characters AND levels from both games and combines them into one. There is also an upcoming original car combat game called Scrap Metal, no release date set though. Both games are 800 points ($10).

Yes, i am thinking of that topless chick skin.

Hmmmm, try looking up Motorseige: Warriors of prime time if you like vehicular combat games
Or Rock n Roll racing 2: Red Asphalt
-
Here's a nifty little thing I put together earlier this evening.
The whole needless weapon array is supposed to kinda make it look like the Fallout 3 weapon the robot takes its name from.
-
Vault Man is happy. :D

I'm thinking Pip-Boy decals for those front little panels on it, maybe a "101" paintjob to go with it too.

looks a bit messy but its cool

The design can be more convincing if it's in DSL. But he did a great job. For comparison, here's the 'real' thing:

[Edit] Actually, it would look more convincing if you lowered the whole weapon system a bit and just attach the axes directly to the disc. :D
-
Awesome :D
-
Kewl. I like. Keep up the good work!
