Title: ReForged AI Pack - Version 2.0 In Development

Special thanks to Lemonism for making this awesome logo.

Reforged v2.0 is now currently in development.  You can still download v1.1, but be warned, it is horrifically outdated and might not live up to current standards for Ironforge.

If you do want to help with rebuilds, then more power to you, and I'd absolutely appreciate it.  But there are a few rules to address:

1. It must be built using like a Standard bot. (Standard is pretty much competitive DSL or Ironforge where it's competitive but it must be realistic.)

2. Biggest rule change here. Best come best serve.  Ultimately I think this will be the big thing to help with version 2.0.  I'm mostly making this rule so the bot can actually put up some sort of fight.  Like better than ReForged 1.1 anyway.

3. Keep the style of the original design as possible for the main LWs, MWs and HWs.  The rest will be AWs, BWs, and SHWs inspired by the themes of the teams.

4. I'll be doing most discussions for designs in a private discord server.  Send me a PM on GTM or discord if you want a link to access.  Mostly so I can keep things organized and everyone there can discuss things in a "round table style" for lack of a better term.

Yeah, this is an excellent idea.

I'll do anything you want me to do for it - and i'm especially interested in .gib UI editing now I've done it for the first time. I've also got my eye on building Spin Bonker.

I would love to help out, but I honestly don't feel that confident in my skinning abilities. I will see what I can do.

I would also like to suggest a rather punny name: Stock AIronforge.

Claiming Red Zone.

Do I have to make the LW/HW as flippers or can I just turn them into popups like restocked did?

Deal. I'd prefer for the robots to stay to their original bot type and have it stick out from the rest because of that. Yet flippers have a bit of  disadvantage since all the arenas are pretty much enclosed, which I could prevent with Arena selection. So your choice is whatever you want to do.

I'm sure the rest of the community would be happy to muck in on some skinning if your bots were right for what they were rebuilds of :)

Thanks, Lemonism! I really appreciate the offer, and I'll most likely take you up on it. In the mean time, I call dibs on Tornado, and I have a really good idea for Tailwhip, though it involves changing the bot type.

We have our very first robot in the pack! Craaig has taken The Boxer. I'll put up an update to indicate what has been done so I don't post every second what has been done.

rnifnuf: I'll put you up for both, and as long Tailwhip doesn't deviate too much from it's original design to where the only thing in common is it's name, then go for it.

EDIT: Oh, and I pondered a thought when getting stuff organized. You know Tunnel Rat? That sample bot when you first download Ironforge? I think it might make a good Coal Miner, assuming 123STW is cool with this. Any objections?

don't call it ironforge stock AI because else people will confuse it with stock AI. At first I thought you wanted to make a stock ironforge mod, or something like that.

Call it Restocked Ironforge ? Ironstock ?

anyways will probably claim a team... dunno whose one, maybe you should make a list of stock teams and people will claim the teams/bots, first come first serve ?

Are these robots supposed to be Standard flavoured, rather than true IRL like the Stock AI then?

So assuming 123STW is okay with this, I think I/we can make a Standard Style AI pack (sorry, no irl) that resembles the original Stock AI.

...

1. It must be built using like a Standard bot. (Standard is pretty much competitive DSL or Ironforge where it's competitive but it must be realistic.)

...

4. IRL bots will also be accepted, but they will not be part of the main AI and count as one of the extra robots. More specifically, they will be in the 4th, 5th, or 6th slot (or be in Bot3, Bot4, or Bot5) But any attempt of jokebots will be instantly rejected.

I think so :P

Well, I can bash out some IRL designs to go alongside the Standard for people like me who are very one-dimensional!  :dumb)

Thanks guys.

And man, I'm productive with this. I've gotten three bots in just a couple of hours and I have a couple ideas for the Events. Yes. I did just say that.
"y wod u includ somthin stoopid redace"

Just to have a bit more fun with this and add a bit of flavor with this pack and it gives you something to do when you're bored. It's like Miiverse Posts in certain games. If you don't care about it, you can just ignore it. No harm, no foul.

Also, I for got to put this in the original post, but I added this just in case you were curious:
5. While I'd like the bots to be the same bot type as the originals, you can rebuild some of these bots to be similar but not different enough to deviate too much from the original.

This way, anything that is a pushbot or wedge can be remade to something a little more competitive.

yeah it's not. lil dog needs to have a chassis wedge and be very fast, this is just a standard rammer

lil dog should be either just a plain old wedge, a popup (maybe), or a wammer (most likely).

Wammer is probably the best choice for it considering its design. A dog that has fists is comedic, but it doesn't really fit Lil' Dog.

Alright, I just finished Hanky Panky, which means I've taken all of the bots that haven't been taken. So now I need to have everyone finish what bot they claim. If there is a mistake with who has got what, then let me know. I'll be working on some of those Events now. Ugh.

Also, I know that some people have finished some extra bots for the teams a bit early, but I'm mostly worried about the main bots at this time. So even if this does include those bots with some teams left out when the first release comes out, that will be a Beta release and the first official release will be with everything that I put up on the to do list (or at least try to include everything.)

Well, it's been a bit since the last post. Hasn't it?

I finished up the events for both 4-Player style and 2-Player style. I also got two new bots for the SteelYard Dog team done. I'm gonna be focusing on making new bots for the rest of the teams for a bit since no one has sent me anything new in the past five or six days and that whoever still wants to make a specific bot, they don't have to worry about me stealing it just to keep the show moving.

If you are one of those people who aren't on a hiatus or not feeling like building their/sending their bot(s), then send them to me. I'd love to say we are getting close to completing this.

Also, I'm gonna start creating a logo for this now, so now would be a good time start suggesting some name ideas. The current name isn't what I would call amazing. Feel free to send me a logo of your own if you wish.

You know this build bots and send them to me concept gives me a really fun idea where people send there bots no matter how terrible and an ai pack is made to showcase bots made all over the community.

1 thought - is there an audience for your idea? If you're not sure that people are going to play it, it's not worth anybody's time being spent on it.

Most of the entries aren't that bad. Even mine isn't too bad. Overall I think it'll be a decently balanced pack for everyone.

Edit:
1 thought - is there an audience for your idea? If you're not sure that people are going to play it, it's not worth anybody's time being spent on it.
It's the only real AI pack for this as far as I know aside from the one that's already there which is pretty much mostly IRL style. I'm sure it'll get a good amount of downloads for anyone who builds on IF actively.

Ah, okay. I feel like the problem with that is people will dump their really crappy bots on us and that'll set a bad example for newcomers. On the other hand, newbies will have an opportunity to contribute and some of the better builders will be able to put out really interesting and creative designs that might not be effective in other situations. It could go really poorly or turn out to be very interesting.

You have a point some may not think the the finished product would be solid.  It's and idea and I have little skills in ai at this point maybe in the future but we're getting off topic.

I know that there have been AI packs where it was made by one person, 15 teams and all. However, that took years of development.
It's worth noting that most (read: pretty much all) of the 2-ish years that it took to put out ASAI was spent not actually working on the pack. If I actually put in time every day to make the pack it probably would have been done in up to 2 or 3 months at the most.

Took me 2 weeks to put 10 teams together in 123AI, then wait 2 months for other people to send in their bots.

I've been thinking it through, but everything that isn't the AI is about complete. There a couple of things needing testing, but since this is almost done, I feel this could be released earlier than I thought it would take. With that said, I'll set a deadline for October 5, 2015 to get their bots sent to me before I remove their name due to inactivity, assuming you don't mind me putting one in for this to begin with.

DP I'm assuming you're not saying anything assumes you guys are cool with it.  Got it.  Send those bots to me guys.

Also,  I've finally gotten myself into component skinning.  If you guys want something to be reskinned from what you already sent me, then let me know.  I got a couple done so far.  For the record, I'll be using some skins of my own, and some from Mr. AS's skin pack (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=245) assuming he's cool with it.

Probably within four or five days.  Why is that?  Two reasons.  First off, one I won't explain just yet, and secondly and most importantly, I have completed the final three bots needed for the pack.

Now hold the phone.  I still need to put the final touches in the right areas an tweak a couple things.  For example, I will ask nicely for a few Beta Testers to double check the AI and make sure I haven't goofed up anywhere or made a weird error for the first release.

Yup.  I plan on releasing this soon, but not after some AI Beta testing.  If you can kindly PM me whether from GTM or Skype or whatever you prefer, I'll give you personal access to the AI to make sure everything is good to go.  I'll provide more details in a PM.  Keep in mind, I will NOT provide everyone early access to this, just the ones who know AI knowledge from ranging from at minimum wage standards to an AI wizard (not like the RA2 wizard Sage) who knows every bit of AI top to bottom.

tl;dr:  I need some Beta testers for the AI.

and the fact that all parts are actually balanced, so noone has an unfair advantage just because they use crappier looking, yet far better stat-wise parts? Does that mean nothing?

Also, we can't forget that DSL over-complicates things.

With the recent update of ReiAI, I thought it would be a good idea to start updating this AI pack as well.  This way, the bots included aren't outdated horribly.  So, If you want to update any of these bots included that I built, be my guest.  For those that aren't, then I would like some sort of conformation from the previous builder that they are happy with you replacing their older bot in a personal message.  If the member is inactive at the current time, then don't worry about that.  I'll be worrying about making sure I fix any errors I have missed when initially testing and make one extra team.

Wow, it's been a year since I started this thing?  Where did the time go?

Anyway, as I was playing around with some of the bots in this, I noticed that Patriot 3 still caused crashes.  I am terribly sorry for not noticing this way back in March, and I have an update that not only fixes this, but also merges the original, and the 1.1 patch together, so you don't have to download two separate files for this.  You can download it on the front page of this thread, or you can use this shortcut. (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile&id=250)  I have checked to make sure this does work, but please do report any bugs that I have missed as I was patching this.

Title: Re: ReForged AI Pack - Version 2.0 In Development
Post by: RedAce on October 04, 2018, 01:36:18 PM
Okay, I think it's time I manage to explain here.  So yesterday, I was looking back at some Reforged bots in the GTM discord chat, and during that discussion, we all agreed on one thing: This pack, needs an update, badly.  Frankly, looking back, I think the biggest problem, to put it as nicely as possible, was that most bots have aged pretty badly.  I think it was during the time when Ironforge was just finally getting some use and before I guess anyone knew the current meta I want to say.  Three years later, most of us have experimented for a while, and I think it's time a version 2.0 gets itself going.  Like this time, with versions that aren't so outdated this time.
