I made a (I think) pretty useful replacement blueprint image with more grid lines. Check it out:
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/48428blueprint.jpg)
It makes it a lot easier to do precision chassis editing, when you need to place a line at a quarter-box distance or something that's hard to just eyeball.
(Bonus points if you can guess which bot's chassis that is. Hint: it's not one of mine.)
I also put a scale on there for those of you into component modeling. Each box on the grid equals 0.22 meters (the units used in gmf files). Yeah, it's really awkward, but it's not my fault, the snap-to grid is hard coded into the exe or something; I can't change it.
There are two versions of the new grid image.
If you play the game in 800x600 resolution, you need http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/blueprint_lowres.zip (Extract the zip into Infogrames/Robot Arena 2/UI/botlab; replace the original blueprint.bmp)
If you play the game in 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution, you need http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/files/blueprint_hires.zip (instructions are the same as for low res)
If you play the game in 640x480 resolution... well, nobody plays at that low of resolution. And if you do you're out of luck.
I'm not sure how well it will work at some of the massive custom resolutions some of you use. You can try it but I can't guarantee it will fit properly.

awesome, thanks for this.. will help a lot with my lws.

Looks cool, CB.
Just noticed that your 3rd increment is not accurate: .. .11 x .5 = .055 .
Might want to fix that before too many go out....
BTW: I use 1024x 768 resolution, cause it's native....

Most of us have wide screen now....
Mine at home is 1920 x 1200
My laptop is 1440 x 900
What do we do to resize it for those resolutions?

HEHEHEHE.........looks familiar!

it's childs play IV, what do i win? :)

You win...
A BRAND NEW GRID TO USE WHEN DESIGNING ROBOTS!

Dang, how did I miss that? Someone wasn't thinking...
Well, it's fixed now with an accurate scale. Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't know. The high res version might actually work; I can't try it because I don't have a monitor that big. But if it works for both 1024x768 and 1280x1024, there's a fair chance it could work for even bigger widescreen sizes.
If it doesn't work, then I would need to make a custom blueprint.bmp for every resolution. Which is simply too much work. So you would probably need to resize the grid yourself until it fit on your resolution, or just temporarily downgrade to a lower resolution while your are making a chassis.

That was fast. I didn't really expect anyone to get that. You win some reputation points! (definitely not a spur of the moment decision there)
Edit: Well, you would win some rep points if the reputation system still existed. When did it go down?

A long time ago.

i was actually going to post childs play IV in my original post, however for some reason i thought it was made by you.. then when i seen ACAMS post it jolted my memory.
my memory was playing tricks on me >.<

Wait a sec ACAMS... How you play RA2 on widescreen res. ?
I tried to play it on my laptop on my max laptop res which is 1280x800 but i failed...
It didn't show it in the select-drop-down-menu. Only the standart 4:3 res. Like 1024x768 and so... Now i play RA2 with some dumb black lines left from the left and right side of the screen...
How to play it on 1280x800? Please help...
-
Go to C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot :):):):):) 2 and open ra2.cfg with notepad and change ...
FSDisplayWidth=????
FSDisplayHeight=???
FS3DDisplayWidth=????
FS3DDisplayHeight=???
To ....
FSDisplayWidth=1280
FSDisplayHeight=800
FS3DDisplayWidth=1280
FS3DDisplayHeight=800

Crap!...
The blueprint list and the 3D-realtime-bot-preview windows are hidden under the menu. I must edit the game UIs to fix this... Any ideas ?

Change your resolution.

thats what cheating does.

It doesn't, I have widescreen and NOTHING fits. One must just put up with wider bots.

[/facepalm]
Hey, you two wiseacres (Reier and Puss-cool-one)...
Did you read the #11 #12 #13 posts?
This happened after i do what ACAMS says...
[/facepalmoff]
-
I started to tell you that would happen, but figured you would notice.....
Find a fix for it and be famous.
-
That WASN'T widescreen! Widescreen is 1440x900, :):):) 1280x800. I'm pretty sure 1280x800 is standart resolution.
-
Well that happens with any res higher than listed......so fix it!

1280x800 is 16:10 WIDESCREEN 15.4' laptop resolution! Standart resolutions are ALWAYS AND ONLY 4:3 (example 1280x1024)! YOU FAIL!

I put one eye on the *.gib files and changed some things, but i didn't succeed. It needs some "menu expert" to find and edit it, what about the guys that made the DSL...

Damn. Though it'd also adjust the snap to grid function so it follows the closer gridlines.
Ah well, it's great as it is.
