Title: Live Designs AI for DSL 2.2 - Submissions are closed!

Oh yes, it's back.

Looking back, the first LDAI release was a bit lackluster - Many of the robots in the pack were of poor quality or just not as good as they could be. I chalk this up to a number of factors but mainly it just wasn't that good. I'm sure a number of people enjoyed the first version but it's time to make version 2 for the new DSL.

--THINGS TO DO--
-Build some teams and AI them
-Collect user-made teams and AI them as well
-Edit some UI
-Decide what arenas I'm going to pack up with this (The Replica Wars Arena and my reskinned Death Facility will definitely be in it, unsure if any others will be)

--GUIDELINES FOR USER TEAMS--
-Robots must be of good IRL quality. The 2.1 release had a lot of "questionable" or "just plain bad" robots. I don't want any of those in this pack.
-If your robot designs are alright, but your skins are lacking, I may take it upon myself to skin them myself. If you send me robots without any skins at all in an attempt to get me to just skin them for you that isn't going to fly.
-Included with your team must be a logo, team name and description.
-BFE, CF, cheatbot2, the DSC IRL Packs and any other custom skins you want to make are fine with me. Anything to make the robots look as good as possible. Certain CB2 parts (IE: the Judge Gavel, beta Hammer, etc) will either be toned down in power or banned outright.
-Ant, Beetle and Cruiserweights must be marked with AW- BW- or CW- in front of their names. If I can find the bot-preview editor I'll probably use that to edit their previews accordingly.

As of right now I am currently not accepting submissions.

I'm not using the old pack as a base. This is a brand-new AI pack.

As many as you want. Just don't flood me with Interplanetarys, okay? :P

1. I can AI the robots if you can't, don't worry about that.
2. As long as you have one lightweight, one middleweight and one heavyweight, the other three robots don't matter. They can be any weight class you want.
3. I need the teams folder as well as the logo/description I mentioned in the OP.

Team2 - Team TimberWolf - 3/6 built
Team3 - Dr. Wily's Robot Army - 1/6 built
Team4 - Snack Squadron - 1/6 built
Team5 - Scientific Progress Goes "Boink" - 1/6 built
Team6 - Team MS Paint - 2/6 built
Team7 - Reptilian Robotics  - 3/6 built

I plan on creating 8 teams for the initial release. Once those teams are finished, I will allow submissions for teams.

posting to say that i may have told some people i was done working on this, but i've changed my mind since then. this will still happen, but it will probably be later on when i have a little less on my plate/feel like doing ra2 more again. basically, i wouldn't get excited and start building a ton of teams yet.

Have you ever thought about asking RedAce if you could combine this and DSL Reborn AI for a like Nar AI for DSL 2.2 IRL bots? I think that would be pretty neat.

Also, I am looking for people to build robots to fill the back half of those teams. If you have a bot or two to spare, I would love to use them to fill those spots.

LDAI now has a document outlining what spaces are open and what teams are in the pack. Currently, the first 15 teams need spots filled.

Bot1 - Star Shark, a brand new robot and design. Takes its cues from SABotage.
Bot2 - Whirlytronic, an old favorite re-imagined with CF and BFE shenanigans.
Bot3 - Swarf, you all know him
Bot4 - Mr. Demolition, a favorite of mine making its first public appearance

Team16 - Pitch Black Robotics

Rigor Motors - Changed quite a bit from SoG. now uses a black disc with typhoon teeth because it looked better than the mechavore disc.
Vantablack - Not changed much at all from the last time you've seen it
Pyrotechnics - dropped down to 4wd for more armor. may end up getting moved to another team
Corpse Feeder - it's on the front page right now lmao
Box of Souls - completely rebuilt from SoG. smaller chassis, uses irl extenders now
Death Hum - the only "brand new" bot on this team, uses an OBJRA2 chassis for maximum cool

OK, I will try to get the team started. The arena is gonna be based on Windows ME. And the bots in arc can have things that say stuff about me. Also can you have trophies and tournaments?

ok well i looked into this re-balancing stuff some more and i feel like it'd be better to not fix what isnt broken if you catch my drift

ldai's going to be standard 2.2 for now. i may look into this rebalancing stuff later but i think it'll be more trouble than it's worth for now

For me at least, I spend about 3-6 hours making a rough prototype of a robot. Then, I test it against several of the AI'd robots to see what can be improved, which takes another 1-2 hours. Then I continue the cycle until I have something good. It needs to look good, fight decent, and make me feel like I've achieved something.

I think they look decent.
4 hours is a lot of time. I only take a couple minutes to test.
I take at shortest 2 hours, and that often includes reusing old chassis,
So making 3 of them in the space of a day without testing or improving is a bad idea.A few minutes to test is not good: that's rushing a robot when there is no deadline for entries.

Spend time on your robots and make them look good.

Also showcase them first so we can tell you how to improve.

3 Days is enough to make get some pics and make a drum bot.
Thats all i need to do or my team, and probably modify it after you reject one of the bots for whatever reason.

I'd have loved to send a team in but general procrastination, revision and builders block prevented me from doing so.

for the record, "stop posting about it" was directed to everyone, not just assbees

you dont need to jump on his ass about something ive already had enough of, and you're only making the situation worse by giving him more attention

from now on i think im just going to lock all my threads once the submission deadline for them ends
