So... am I doing this right?

I decided to remake Warpig in Ironforge... but I feel like I'm not playing the mod right. A bot like this can destroy all the AI HWs I've tried it against with ease, and many of the opposing bots appear to be build using IRL rules, not DSL standard. Are Ironforge robots supposed to obey IRL rules?
Regardless, the bot itself is pretty generic—the only thing possibly original about it is the use of weapon arrays to mount the ninja stars. This avoids the loss of an entire stack at once, and preserves the separation of extender from weapon. I must say though that it almost wasn't worth the massive amount of axle loading necessary to mount all of the stars (two per weapon array, with the third attachment point connecting to the next weapon array).
If someone could enlighten me on the intent behind Ironforge, I would be most grateful.

its not a shell spinner/10
There is standard ironforge and IRL ironforge, as in DSL. For as how you are supposed to build... I don't know. Build like you want.
-
The teams at the bottom of the team selection slider are more DSL-S ish, unless 123 removed them, they're named after bot types and the bots contained are exactly what it says on the tin, also what Nary said, it can both be standard and IRL, and really, build how you want to

Urjak! Nice to see you again. The bot itself doesn't look so bad from my view. The batteries make it look like it's underpowered since all batteries don't share the same output like in DSL from what I've heard. Other than that, It looks like you're doing just fine getting the swing of things.

If I remember the conversations I had with 123 correctly, the Ironforge AI in most cases was designed in a way that bots could be effective in some capacity, but largely IRL and hence fairly easy. Intended to be new player friendly, if you get what I mean, like Stock, as opposed to DSLs relative challenge.
Bot looks real good though :)

Alright, that makes sense.

Nice to see you, Urjak.

Hi Urjak :D
Awesome robot in my opinion.
-
Urjak? Who's that? The name sounds vaguely familiar... >:)
I like the robot though. Just reminds me of DSL robots, but with the freedoms of Ironforge

You're a bit more purple now than when I last saw you.

sup old man
hey did you follow the weightclass right? It's lower in ironforge I'm told
also give urj vet status already

Hey. It's nice to see that you're still around.
As for the weight limit—I think I understand how it works: 400 kg for heavyweight, except for the up to 200 kg of ballast that can be added, but is not actually considered part of your bot's weight. Seems kind of odd with the whole ballast thing, but I suppose that it's simple enough.

I am. It was a lifechanging moment.

Seconded. He's way too old to not be.

Thirded, but I think he should keep the "Spiderweight" name

Urjak <3
Lovely looking bot, btw. How heavy is it?

450 kg with one ballast.
In other news, I decided to build a popup because... who knows.

Has something like 18 razors, questionably realistic at best, and can't even self right. Needless to say, it could be better.

Quite nice work there, the setup and everything.

reminds me of a spider urjee HMMMMMMMM
diggin the look though. The disk fall off in combat much?

Hello again. I decided to give Ironforge another try, and built this
HW SHW shell spinner:

I couldn't stand the transparency of the shell panels, so I used the DSL disks (probably called something else now) for weapon attachment and then sandwiched the whole bot between two large disks, allowing for some bottom protection and producing a very satisfying aesthetic. There are 25 blades and five 30kg hammers for weapons. I had originally intended for this to be an HW, but forgot that the weight limit for them was 400 kg, not 600 kg.
As always, any comments would be appreciated.

yo bud
the top and bottom disks are fine, but you may want to opt for a cleaner setup on the sides. the dsl disks behind the hammers at least are probably never going to be hit when it matters, and the hammers themselves may not see as much action as you want since they are not as far out as the spikes. I bet you can get a killer setup if you mess with it.
I assume there is a 10 sided normal disk under the DSL one on top?
also, use large batteries if you possibly can. I'd probably go 1 large and 1+ medium, it will last way longer than several mediums.
i personally think ironforge is closer to the ideal DSL than the current 2.1. keep going at it, us old DSL builders gotta stick together ;) the transparent panels grow on you too.

Old man !
I'm not sure about the different choices in weapons. But maybe.
-
cmon you two have an old man fight already
-
Hey, nice to see you guys again.
As far as the weapons are concerned, I'm really not sure which ones are best in Ironforge. The hammers seemed like a pretty safe bet, but I'm less confident about those ice pick/blade things. They seem to have decent normals and HP, but I'll probably mess around with some lower-weight shell spinners and test various weapons to see which perform best.
For this bot in particular, I followed your advice Reier and angled the hammers so that they stick out about as far as the blades (it's not perfect, but it does improve performance), and replaced the four medium batteries with two large ones. I figure I'll just keep the DSL disks behind the hammers, since they look cool and would only save me about 10 kg if I replaced them with dark panels.
Any time you want to do battle Naryar, I'll be waiting.
