Title: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on July 19, 2015, 01:48:20 PM
Ciao,
my style is going to be usually IRL or the robots are going to look IRL.

Here's two robots I made:

Incandescent
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/68509s1.png)(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/54672s2.png)

Is actually 4wd, the two front wheels are not powered, but you can think of them chain linked to the other.
I love 6wd robots! So much I built one IRL ;).
The actual chassis is the small rectangle on the middle, and then the structure is built around it.

UpperCut
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/4748s5.png)(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/71630s6.png)

It gyro dances a lot!
Here too the structure is built around the "electronics box" as I like to call it.
The perm is half inside and half outside because I used a linear actuator, I moved it with the controls, attached the perm and retracted the actuator.
The actuator isn't supposed to move, there aren't any air tanks, so it's only a structural part.
It can self right if you spin the disk...down.

that is pretty damn well built AND cool looking for a newbie. +1

These look cool, nice work. I like your structural work especially.
Also kudos for working out a way to have the perm half-inside the bot that's botlab legal and not bot file editing like I know I'd do :P

As the others have said, these look very cool - I'm already a big fan of your style. The VS especially is great - it feels very real to me.

Your off to a really good start. I like that, and your bots.

That's a very promising start, especially with the perm work.
Keep it up.  :thumbup

I'm blown away at how awesome the first one is!!

Odd sense of Déjà vu here :P

I see you did your homework lurking around the forum. It's not that common to find such good robots right at the start

I like mainly Incandescent for it's clean compact look.

Uppercut's extender placement looks a bit too disorganized for me but as a perfectionist I may be a bit too harsh on appearances

Please put these on the bot exchange.

These bots are well built, i look forward to seeing more from you.

Also are you Tashic on rw101 and fra? EDIT: just seen your post in the new users section, answers my question lol
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on July 20, 2015, 07:24:05 PM
Thanks for the compliments!

Avalance: the previous two robots are in the bot exchange .

Dominating: the messiness of UpperCut is because when I see a very exposed component, I want to protect it!

Craaig: I do the trick because I prefer doing all the building in the bot lab.

Playzooki: yes, and I'm in the FRA forum too. If you look at my IRL robots you will understand how much I love the storm 2 shape, since almost every robot has the front and sides angled.

Now for two robots inspired by other robots (guess which):

ElectricShock:

Armour: steel 5mm
Done again with the actuator trick, the last photo shows the position of the motor with the actuator extended.

LockReload:

Armour: steel 10mm
The two parts of the weapon can move indipendently.

Now one question: is the actuator trick allowed in the IRL metagame, if the actuator does not move and anything attached to it doesn't clip through the other electrical components?
Because someone IRL could get something shaped like a tube and cut a slot shaped like the motor to mount the motor to the chassis of the robot.

Both robots are beautifully constructed. The use of those blades as wheelguards on LockReload is fantastic. What's the component on the back of it?

Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on July 21, 2015, 04:23:11 AM
Very cool stuff here.
I would accept static stacking of structural components legit for IRL style. So long as the actuator isn't wired to move then that's fine.
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on July 21, 2015, 01:04:40 PM
Saw in some showcases, in the dsl category, people made gost raptor inspired robots, so I just made a replica of it:

There are some things that I don't like, like the blade being too far on the back, and the front armour.
But the blade does not break in half the moment it touches something! :dumb)

TBH I hate how i cant make anything that looks good after approximately 6 or so years of being here, and this guy turns up and does within his first WEEK.
Its not much of a challenge to out do me (Quotes out of context GO GO GO) but seriously man!?

Well, it's not like I started playing the moment I registered here! I have been building for years too!

Now for a MW:
WhackABot:

2 ballasts.
Not very effective bot in combat, if the AI drives it anyway.

Because of the number of IF tournaments, I've been trying some MW:

Grinder:

FlippingHigh:

Thoughts? I tried to be a bit more DSL-standard this time.

diggin the drum

how do the wedges work? In my experience wedges are hard to do effectively in IF, especially MW. Stuff's too bouncy. they any good?
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on August 02, 2015, 03:46:37 PM
They can go under most things, but they work best if the back is supported, like the flipper, and the spikes on the skirts are a bit raised.

I'd remove the knives under the flipper and just put on wedges there on skirt hinges.
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on August 03, 2015, 08:32:42 PM
Tried what 090901 suggested and it does better than the previous version:

I also updated the bot in the BotExchange.

honestly i know the side swords are there for coolness but i think it will be cool enough without them.

don't see a way to use the weight though. does it have excess batteries ? maybe a third wedge on a skirt hinge in the middle ?

Another IF stock AI bot:

HexNut:

I decided for a FBS, because of the shape.
Might update the skin.

That's some sloppy extender work. You know the pack is standard DSL and not IRL-style right?

What kind of motor is that?
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on August 04, 2015, 07:59:54 PM
Updated HexNut and filled the gaps in the extenders:

And yes, I know it's a standard AI Pack, but I thought that a hexagonal shell resembled better the stock robot.
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: ty4er on August 05, 2015, 04:51:08 AM
you can have a hexagonal shell but you dont need all those extenders behind the hammers
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: cephalopod on August 05, 2015, 05:09:08 AM
I'd be tempted to replace all those horizontal ones behind hammers with a single vertical extender coming from the top horizontal thing.  You'd probably get enough weight saved to upgrade to dark extenders.

Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: RedAce on August 05, 2015, 12:37:05 PM
I think it's pretty good right now.  Is the top bar attached to the weapon shell or a separate anchor?
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on August 05, 2015, 12:50:42 PM
It is attached to a skirt hinge in the chassis, and then an extender inside to put it at the sameposition as the motor axle.
Is it a problem for standard building?
If it was attached to the shell it would be useless at self righting, because the chassis would spin and the shell would not.
Title: Re: Tashic's Ironforge robots
Post by: Tashic on August 19, 2015, 06:58:20 AM
This is the context:
On a facebook group, after jokes where made about the direction of spin of bars spinners, Charles Guan (team JACD) decided to make a beetle version of counter revolution, but with the disks slanted 45°, named Stance Stance Revolution.
This is the version that I made in IF:
Yes the name is lazy.
Surprisingly stable, except when the disks hit the ground after being flipped.

I got crusher for pot luck 2, and this is what I made for now:

DeadlySwan:

Steel 10.
The power of the piston and the fire rate are very good, but it's pretty fragile, against bar spinners it's useless.
It can self right, but it does that by firing the weapon and flying around until it's level.
