Title: F1Krazy's Ironforge Showcase
Post by: F1Krazy on October 22, 2016, 07:55:07 AM
Working on a little something for Toreo! and figured I might as well show it off. Might drop the armour down and do something with the spare weight but not sure what yet. I also want to skin it and add some more flame decals because aesthetic.

UPDATE: I realized it was severely under-amped, so I dropped the armour down to 10mm Aluminium and changed the batteries to 4 stacked Energizers. That completely fixed the speed and manoeuvrability problems, and the weapon spins a lot faster too, but now it seems to cause Havoc explosions quite a lot. Which is a problem. Damage output is even more insane, though.

So back when Asbestosstar's meme tournament was a thing, I floated the idea of building a scaled-up version of Fire Tornado, weighing 800kg with no ballasts. Well, I went ahead and made it anyway because why the hell not. Presenting Extinction Event:

Has a total of twelve 60cm crushing teeth and deals ridiculous amounts of damage. It's hard to control because the weapons are often spinning at different speeds, but that doesn't matter when your opponent keeps driving straight into you and receiving 10k+ damage at a time.

(I promise I'll post some actually realistic Ironforge bots here someday >.>)

not a whole lot of advice we can give if it's not realistic

If you're going for unrealistic, you might as well go the full 9 yards and make it invertible. Angling the tank treads would accomplish just that.

I'll look into that.

In the meantime, Thracker's Ironyforge tourney has gotten me building actual serious bots again. I've come up with two HW ideas so far, both named after C# glitches in honour of my profession. The first is a fairly generic VS:

The second is a small, fast rammer/flamethrower hybrid (I like flamethrowers). It might not look that impressive but if it hits you at the right angle, with the right run-up, it can deal ludicrous amounts of damage. Still have 30kg to play with, I'm sure I can add a top panel and maybe one on the back.

I'm also working on a MW bot with a ninja star drum thingy, that I made a couple of months ago and forgot about, so I'll post that shortly as well.

Cool bots dude!  Glad that my tournament has got you inspired.

I do wonder if steel 10 might be a tad overkill.  I usually use aluminum or titanium 3 and that seems to work fine enough.  Also, do you have any problems with weapons on the VS falling off?

Armour in Ironforge is pretty light so I like using Steel 10 (as you can see from StackOverflowException, even then I sometimes struggle to hit the weight limit). I probably wouldn't scale either of them down unless I could think of something REALLY important I could do with the extra weight.

I've tested OutOfBoundsException against a few different HWs, and I've lost a grand total of one tooth during that time, so the weapon seems to hold up okay. I should probably test it against some of the more deadly spinners though, because I'm probably not gonna be facing the likes of Rotor and Arthropod in Ironyforge :P

i feel like the VS is too narrow and you are going to lose more than 1 tooth in an ai fight

use the angled skirts for the vs, rammer should have dark panels on the top and bottom for popup protection
