Gametechmods

These rules apply anywhere and everywhere.

Site-Wide Rules

  1. Illegal Material — Do NOT upload/post illegal material, like torrents or links to a free download of otherwise copyrighted material. This can and will earn you a ban.
  2. Pornography — Do NOT upload/post sexually explicit images, videos, or text (including both ASCII porn and/or descriptions). There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule so things like PMs are still not acceptable. This will earn you a ban.
  3. Excessive Reporting — Do NOT overly report the actions/posts of yourself or others. There will be some lenience in this area but we do not want to see more than a couple of these from the same user in a week. If this becomes a problem, you will receive warnings with increasing severity.
  4. Invalid Reporting — Do NOT report posts that follow the rules unless it is of the utmost urgency that something is done about it. We understand that accidents happen but this should not be a recurring problem. If something is questionable but not urgent, send a PM to a member of the staff. If this becomes a problem, you will receive warnings with increasing severity.
  5. English — Please refrain from using languages other than English. Using more languages makes it difficult to filter and turns off many of GTM's visitors. Warnings will be issued to anyone that disobeys this rule.
  6. Accessing or Using Someone Else\’s Account — Do NOT access or use (posting, sending PM's, etc.) any account other than your own for any reason. This is a grave offense and you will get banned for doing it.
  7. Password Foul Play — Do NOT try to guess someone else's password. Do NOT under any circumstances share Gametechmods passwords with other users. If you happen to be in possession of another member's password, then IMMEDIATELY inform the moderating staff and the member in question - you will not get into trouble IF AND ONLY IF it becomes apparent you haven't accessed or used their account.

Forum

In addition to the site-wide rules, the forum has its own rules depending on where you are in it.

Profile Rules

  1. Multi-Accounting — Do NOT create more than one account. You may be eligible to have your username changed by an administrator but it will depend on how active you have been in the past. Bans will be issued to anyone that disobeys this rule. The registration page clearly states that existing members should not be creating new accounts.
  2. Misuse of Information — If it is found without a doubt that you are using the information of other members for unacceptable reasons, you will get perma-banned. No exceptions.
  3. Bloated Signature — The height of your forum signature should not extend past the bottom boundary. The width should also be a reasonable size (we’ll let you know if this is a problem).

PM Rules

  1. Multiple Requests — Do NOT send the same request to more than one staff member within 7 days of each other. Your request will get turned down and you will receive further punishment. Also, you should assume that any response that you get is final and should not be re-requested to another staff member (even after the 7 days are over). If you believe a ruling is unfair, hit the Report to Admin button and the selected admin will look into it.
  2. PM Spamming — Unless you are coordinating some event, you should NOT be sending an excessive amount of PMs to other members. If this becomes a problem, you may have your ability to send more than one PM taken away.
  3. Harassment, Flaming, or Bullying — Do NOT send PMs to others members with the intent of causing trouble, flaming, or insulting. There is a Report to Admin button that we encourage members to use if they feel that they are being attacked or targeted for whatever reason.

Reputation/Karma System Rules

  1. Foul Language — It is generally seen as bad and it may get you into trouble if you use it too often. GTM has members of all age groups and you shouldn't assume that they grew up under the same circumstances as you. Be polite and use words that won’t offend people. Search engines, like Google, also see it and it negatively impacts GTM’s SEO score (resulting in less visitors). For this reason, it is not sufficient to obscure foul language using asterisk or depend on the word filter. Warning will be issued with increasing severity if you can't control yourself.
  2. Valid Reason — Things like “’cuz he’s cool” or "'cuz he's not cool" are not valid reasons for changing someone’s reputation. If you want to change someone's rep than please say what they did to earn their "cool" or "uncool" status. The logs will be scanned on a regular basis to ensure that people are providing valid reasons for changing someone else's rep. It’s all fun and games until an administrator sees it and decides to take away your rep powers.

Chatbox Rules

  1. Foul Language — The use of foul language is generally seen as bad and it may get you into trouble if you use it too often. Warnings will be issued with increasing severity if you can't control yourself.
  2. Spam — Do NOT spam. This includes overusing smileys, spamming letters, spamming words, spamming images, spamming external links, spamming Spam®, and all other forms of spam.
  3. Flaming — Do NOT flame or insult other users. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so please be respectful. If you want to argue or debate (both of which GTM encourages) than do so without throwing excrement at other people. This will generally get you warned or muted depending on your role in a given flame war. This including fanning the flame.

Calendar Rules

  1. Foul Language in Event Title — The use of foul language is generally seen as bad and it may get you into trouble if you use it too often. Warnings will be issued with increasing severity if you can't control yourself.
  2. Random Events — If it doesn't have anything to do with RA2 than it doesn't belong on the calendar.
  3. Duration of Events — Events should not span longer than 7 days. If the duration of your event is longer than that, you should consider breaking it up more. For example, instead of having an event that spans the entire duration of a signups period, you should just add an event for the final deadline and possibly the start date.

Main Forum Rules

(Includes the board categories: Site Information, Robot Arena 2, Real Robotics, Off-Topic)
  1. Foul Language — The use of foul language is generally seen as bad and it may get you into trouble if you use it too often. Warnings will be issued with increasing severity if you can't control yourself.
  2. Spam — Do NOT spam. This includes overusing smileys, spamming letters, spamming words, spamming images, spamming external links, spamming Spam®, and all other forms of spam.
  3. Double Posting — Please try to contain your entire post within the confines of a single post. That is to say, try to use the edit button if you were the last person to post in a thread and if it has been less than 24 hours. The exception to this rule is that if your new post adds a significant amount to the conversation than it is acceptable to make another post. Although the act will still be viewed negatively, the staff is not going to punish you for double posting unless it becomes a problem. Anything more than double posting, like triple posting or quadruple posting, will get you in trouble, though.
  4. Off-topic — A small dose of off-topic discussion is generally tolerated (though viewed negatively). However, excessive off-topic discussion can get you in trouble.
  5. Text Font & Size — Do NOT overuse colored fonts, large size fonts or small size fonts. Unless it becomes a problem, it is not really worth punishing someone for changing either of these. However, it is pretty strongly frowned upon unless there is a reason for doing it.
  6. Bumping — Although, there is no predefined length of time that constitutes a bump, the general rule of thumb is that the longer the thread has sat dormant, the less likely that you should be posting in it (unless of course you are adding something important, legitimately saying thank you, or doing something that was asked for by the original post).
  7. "Bump whacking" — Do NOT blame people for bumping a topic when the post is relevant and on-topic.
  9. Smelling of Junkyard — Do NOT bring Junkyard drama into the main forum. This includes, but is not limited to, whining or insulting other users because of what happened in that section. No one wants to hear about it and it will get you heavily warned or muted. This is a serious offense that can get you perma-banned if done too much.
  10. Robot Showcase Section — The Robot Showcase Section has some additional rules that you should take a look at if you plan on starting a showcase or making suggestions. The respective rules for Stock Showcase, DSL TC Showcase, and Custom Showcase may be found here, here, and here.
  11. Tournaments Section — The Tournaments Section has some additional rules that you should take a look at if you plan on hosting any tournaments. The rules for Standard tournaments may be found here. The rules for Display Tournaments may be found here.
  12. Challenge Board — The Challenge Board has some additional rules that you should take a look at if you plan on challenging other members to some one-on-one robot carnage or voting. The rules for this board may be found here.

  2. Smelling of Junkyard — Do NOT bring Junkyard drama into the main forum. This includes, but is not limited to, whining or insulting other users because of what happened in that section.
