Title: Well, RA2's died on me...
Post by: Badger on March 29, 2013, 03:49:21 PM
After so long of having no problems, every version of RA2 I have crashes immediately on startup, with the 'Robot Arena 2 is not responding' windows error message popping up every time. I've tried running as admi, running in XP compatibility mode, running from desktop, documents, downloads etc. I've obviously also tried a fresh install (from Sage's sig).

Any help?

How long are you waiting before hitting the "Close the program" button? The not responding message can pop up while the game is loading because the game doesn't give your computer any feedback about its progress.

Waiting 5 minutes doesn't help. =/

Drop Robot Designs folder and Teams folders on desktop and install a clean copy. Then just transfer your bots. Should fix it.

If a fresh copy of RA2 don't work, then the problem is in your OS for sure...

You might want to do a registry cleanup.

Dude... It's WINDOWS, it don't need any obvious reason to screw up. Lately all windows are bullsh**. Vista, 7, 8... I'm with XP, and the last time when I reinstalled my OS was 4 years ago, when I bought the PC... If You get my point...

MS-DOS master race.

But seriously. Window 7 is the only OS for gamers ATM, with DX11 not supporting XP.

...with DX11 not supporting XP.
Why they will release a SP4 for XP with a DX11 and fixes for a modern hardware for free, when they can charge You for this as a new sh**ty OS... Think,... it's not illegal yet...

*facepalm*

I'm not saying that XP is a bad OS, but because DX11 is not supported, more and more games will not work on XP. And because I use this PC for gaming, having an OS that is losing and will be losing support from games is kinda a bad idea.

Dude, I'm not forcing You to downgrade to XP, I just made my point, in telling how the lame MS is forcing people to use their latest craps... The day of the free OSs is approaching very fast...

If they stick with the Metro UI, more and more programs will start supporting Linux over Windows, thus allowing the mass-takeup of the OS. Hopefully newer games will start supporting Linux, so I can have an excuse to switch over.

That will never happen because Microsoft pays companies to produce games exclusively for Windows. Otherwise there would be more Linux or Mac gaming to begin with.

IIRC all of EA's games support Mac, and steam is supporting Linux more and more.

Let me reword that... There aren't many good games for Linux and Mac. EA makes very few good games. And as far as Steam, that's good to hear, but I'd bet they're not the big selling games.

You are correct, but my point is that the change is happening, even if it is slow.

The insolent decisions that MS takes, will lead to a fail sooner or later...

Anyways, I defragged, updated my graphics driver, put my graphics drivers back to an old version, and updated them again. Nothing worked. =/

Do You know how people calls something, that denies to work no matter what You try to fix it?
...a new OS from MS...
In Win 8 You even get a sad face :( in the BSOD, come on...
 :rotflmao:
I bet, that the problem is not with the RA2.

I don't have windows 8. I have windows 7. Care to suggest any other OS I could use?

And I've had fewer problems with Windows 7 than I have had with Ubuntu Linux (In the short time that I tried it.)

Is "reinstalling the same windows" an option for You?

Not really, because my disc drive decimates any disc that goes in it. I'll see if I can pirate W7 Ultimate and put it on a USB...

Maybe You installed some new Havok, DX, PhysicsX, OpenGL or other stuff like this for some game, and this screw up your RA2, which needs older versions to operate properly?
