DSL: Vanilla Bot Construction Parts Missing?
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:16:16 PM »
I've tried to install this correctly a bunch of times on my own and have finally given in and am asking for help here now. The first problem I see is that when I go to Team HQ and make my own bots, underneath the 'Bot Construction' Submenu, all the parts from the vanilla game are missing. I only have the parts from the DSL. I was under the impression that when you install the DSL version, you now have all of the parts (motors and such) that came with the vanilla game, plus those additional parts in the DSL mod. Correct? If so, here's how I installed it the most recent time:

1) I have the CD version of the game (v1.0.) So I installed that.
2) Copied the entire RA2 folder and pasted, which after renaming left me with "Robot Arena 2 Clean" and "Robot Arena 2 DSL 2.0".
3) Downloaded the No CD 1.0 patch and ran it into the RA2 DSL2.0 folder.
4) Downloaded the 1.3 Nvidia patch and ran it into the RA2 DSL2.0 folder.
5) Downloaded the DSL 2.0 zip folder and extracted. Selected all of the contents in the dsl2 folder and cut/pasted them into the RA2 DSL2.0 folder.
6) Merged the folders that it asked if I wanted merged, and hit "Copy and Replace" to those that it asked, and provided administrator permission for the files it said it needed that for (I remember the AI folder being one of them.)
7) Went into the RA2 DSL2.0 folder, scrolled down to the Robot Arena 2.exe (3,184 kb application) and double-clicked to start the game.
8) Ran into the issue I first mentioned.

I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit with a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 series graphics card, if that helps any troubleshooting...

I really am not understanding what I'm doing wrong. :blackeye_smily:

some vanilla or "stock" as most call it parts are not in DSL, DSL is a standalone version of robot arena 2, some of the stock parts you find in DSL may look the same but are in fact different. some parts were done away with all together to make way for DSL versions (E-Tek, DSL Servo, DSL piston, etc)

You can see most of your old part by entering "cheatbot2" as your bot name and press enter.  Although as you can probably guess this is consider cheating.

stock parts I dont think would be cheating so much considering they would get dismantled rather easy by DSL parts, but as far as tournaments go yes it is considered cheating in a dsl tournament

Well, that stock motors are indeed more powerful in weight/power ratio.

So yeah, you cant use stock parts in DSL, you can easily tell if a part is DSL or not by the blue borderlines their preview images have.

And you should apply DSL 2.1 patch to your DSL, it has quite alot of fixes in it.
