One thing to note for newer players:
Once you've got the hang of building, it's worth checking out the showcases of people like 123Savethewhales, Naryar, The Ounce, Pwnator and so on in the DSL section. In those you'll probably see terms like "axle-loaded" or AGOD thrown around. For dealing with glitches and using techniques like those, you'll normally need your pause key to be active in games, as it makes a lot of building techniques a lot less strenuous. Most keyboards on laptops and desktops constructed post-Windows 7 lack this sort of functionality by default, but you can set it up in your keyboard settings normally.

I was having the same problem as you, i then went into the ra2.cfg file in notepad and turned off fullscreen, and that fixed it for me :D

Sometimes you can't run the game in full screen. Go into the main folder and find the file called ra2.cfg (make sure it's NOT the one labeled RA2.CFZ). Right click and edit with notepad. Find the line called Fullscreen = 1, and change it to Fullscreen = 0. (This should be the second line down).

Save, and try opening RA2 again.

Failrace recently played this game, so we may get another small influx of new/returning members. I can't promise I'll come back for good (with revision and exams approaching), but I'll be hovering and lurking as I always have. However, for now, my builders block has been cured! :D

For me it works for an hour then it crashes, if I ever try to start it up again it says I need python22.dll no matter how many times I download it or what folder I put it into.

Python22.dll is a file that randomly disappears sometimes. Grab a new copy from the zip file in that main RA2 folder.

Ok i used to LOVE RA2 i couldn't get enough of it now I'm having trouble getting it to play. I still have the RA2 disc and i have transferred the whole game on to my laptop, but it says i need to enter the disc and i cant my (laptop doesnt have a place i can enter it). I would really like to get the DSL version but even when i download that and unRAR it i get the same problems. What should I do.

I am using a Macbook Air on OS X version 10.9.5

Mac and RA2 do not work. There may be a solution but i cant help you there.

You can use stuff like VirtualBox I believe to create a virtual Windows environment to play it in.
