Problems getting DSL 2.1 to work
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:10:40 PM »
This is what I did: I got a fresh install of RA2 (download version), and installed the 1.3 patch. Then I just extracted all the DSL 2.1 files into the Robot Arena folder. I also tried installing the 1.3 patch after extracting the DSL pack instead of before. It starts up and everything, but here are the problems. When I go to Exhibition, there are no maps listed, it's just a black box without any text for the maps. And when I try to start the match, it just freezes at loading, sometimes showing the 4 UI things with the bot's HP, PSI, etc overlaying the loading screen. I've reinstalled about 5 times, trying different ways to do it, but still no luck. Am I doing anything wrong?

Did you only D/L DSL 2.1? Did you get 2.0?

I could be wrong, but I believe you dont extract directly into the RA2 folder.

You have to extract the files into a different temporary folder then drag and drop it all into the RA2 folder.  When it asks if you want to overwrite certain files you say "yes".

Try that.

I tried what both of you said. I downloaded the DSL 2.0, extracted it to an empty folder on my desktop, then dragged the contents into a fresh install of RA2. Then I did the same with the 2.1, and I still have the same problem. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit if that makes any difference.

Hmmm. What graphics card are you running? I have 7 64 bit as well, but I am running the Nvidia patch to support my graphics card.

I hope you manage to get it to work. It can be frustrating, but I have faith you will eventually get it sorted out.

Thanks for the reply. I have a ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics card. I use the nVidia patch as well (won't work without it).

Did you try downloading to the desktop, and just dropping and dragging the folder right from the .rar to the desktop?

Tried that just now, still didn't work.. I'll make a video and upload it, might help you guys understand the problem a bit more, 'cause I'm not exactly sure what's wrong.

EDIT: Here it is:
I just skipped the extracting near the beginning and the start up of the game. I didn't show what happens when I try to start a match, but it just freezes like I said earlier.

Does stock RA2 work?

One thing you can do is replace the stock folders with DSL folders one by one and see at what point it stops working.  That will help narrow down the search.

My guess is it's something in the AI folder.  But that's just a hunch.

Could be a problem with the Arena folder.
