I want to skin 'side4' in the domes file, so when I want to copy/paste the map file, it isn't there. The maps folder is a blank folder...
So if anyone can tell me where the maps are, then it would be a big help...
-
I never read the dome gmf's, but there are no bmp's for it since it's pretty much simple colors, no complex textures. It's all in the gmf.
-
So what can I use instead for Cassius 3's flipper?
EDIT - Or better still, how can I edit the GMF so then it has a map file?

I though of this but have no idea how to do it. You might want to seek the help of a more skilled modder than me (aka Serge, Click or Madiaba)
-
Will PM Serge then.

yes its mapping with solid colors in the GMF
to add to the list Sage has also done it before as have I [/self promotion]

*Cough*So did I with a few razortips.*Cough*
Anyway, you could do it with a map or with the gmf. I could help you if you want.
-
Would prefer to do it with the map.
Look, all I need to know is how to edit the GMF file so then it has a map file instead.
-
if you want to self mod then you will find all the info there
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/modding.htm#gmffile (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/modding.htm#gmffile)
I read that thing start to finish a few times, pulled out paper and followed diagrams, etc and its basically all I used for my GMF modding abilities (just tinkered with the rest and self taught it or for the rigidbody stuff mad helped me out)

Uhhhhh if you're going to be applying maps to components, you'd be better off starting with something simpler. The shell spinner panels have way too many vertexes.
Better option: Make a really flat "decal" component (like the decals on Heavy Metal Noise's discs) and attach that to the shell panel. You can even probably just reskin HMN's disc decals (just make a lot of transparent space).
-
I might be able to do that. Problem is, how do I make the transparent space? (not the very best modder on earth, me...)
-
Transparent Targa image editor such as photoshop
-
So I know that "Domes" has no map folder, as it is a very basic component so it doesnt need maps. But I need to reskin it for a rep I'm doing. But I don't know how to add a map file for it.
I know I had started a thread slightly similar to this a few months ago, but I'd rather not bump it.
So what part of the GMF can I edit to get a maps pic?
Edit by Trov: I merged both topics for everyone's convenience.
-
Bump it. No need to make 2 threads on the same topic.
-
I can't delete this thread :(
-
Then ask a mod to do it.
-
to heck with it we will use this one now
it can be very easy to put a map section into a GMF
if the component supports it is a whole different story
components need normals I think they are called (no not the things in the text file) these are in the GMF and is done in 3DSM when you apply textures it allows the BMP image to be placed nicely on components
ones without this required stuff will appears screwy, choppy and most likely constantly flash (no matter what anyone says they probally didnt intend to make a flashing component :P)
perfect example would be the smallest Spinner Bar in Backlash first blood, its cause me to remake the Spinner Bar (or DSL Bar) again with maps from the beginning.

Ok, next question. These involve the side panels, not the discs.
In the GMF file, I'm trying to edit the transparency. I set it to '0.5', and yet, in the game, it isn't transparent at all. Why?
EDIT: Don't worry, I've figured it out now.
