EXTREME SLOWDOWN
« on: November 03, 2004, 06:49:27 PM »
hecko again, I got the game to not crash at all (thank goodness), but now when I entered the Wheels section one day, the mouse is moving very slow and very jerky. I also noticed that the same problem happens in the Wiring section, but no where else in the game. Also in the garage, all the movement is going like I have a 4mb video card, a.k.a. really slow. Gameplay going slow seemed like a bad video card to me, but i can't help but wonder why the game runs very smooth at highest graphics possible in Exhibition, while going that slow in Garage. I'm pretty sure that all this is not the fault of my video card, since i've played it around 15 times, and all those times before now, it's worked fine. Please help.

what kind of video card do you have?

DSL Does require a better computer than regular RA2 .

but, if i understand you correctly it just started being slow.
is there anything that you added to your computer since the slowdown? it also could be spyware(not from dsl!)
sippin' on my Honeydew bubble tea.
party in my tummy. yummy, yummy.

AMD ATHLON ~1.8GHZ
256 DDR SDRAM
32MB Kaser S315E-32P Hardware TNL Video Card
AC'97 32bit sound card.

I'm pretty sure it should run it good.
The only other thing I installed after DSL-TC was SpySubtract, a spyware/adware remover. It did detect quite a few spyware/adware (1642 threats) and deleted them all. I also have a 32MB S3 Prosavage DDR video card, think that it could work better with that one?

I also have the same problem, sometimes the game slows down in the garage, and always runs really slow in the wiring section of the botlab, , sometimes it doesnt allow me to select controls for editing (like when i go to edit an imported bots controls to my setup for my gamepad)
My computer has a 2 GHZ processor, 256 Megs of memory, an ATI Radeon 7000 Video card and Integrated AC'97 Audio (i know, im cutting it really close with the memory, and the video card isnt all that good) does anyone else have the problem in the wiring lab? is this a normal operation in DSL?

the only place we heard and noticed a problem of slow down was when you were fixing your bot in tourny section.
you mention the garage.. are other arenas slow ? the garage has no moving parts and should have the least lag.. also no bots in there with you to slow it down.

The garage has moving parts... anything that can move (anything with mass) causes some slowness. I took it to the extreme and made 4 pillars on a level, each 4 km tall, and it was real slow. Even so, I agree that the garage shouldn't be slow. It's only huge things that move that make a noticable effect.

there is a lot of different graphics loaded for the garage.. more than a normal arena.. that would gobble up your video memory quick.
I remember when i made it i had no more room on the texture page. the balls for those who know what i mean.

nope, didn't help. I even borrowed a friend of mine's 128mb Nvidia GeforceFX video card, and it still slows down. it apparently ain't a video card issue. anyone have any ideas?
