Crash on "New Team"
« on: October 19, 2004, 07:43:22 PM »
No teams appear after I install it.
When I install, I:
Rename my old folder to ROBOT ARENA 2 ACTUAL
Run the AUTORUN Uninstall (Does Nothing)
Install RA2 to a folder named DSL
Run the patch (It does install to the new DSL folder)
Run the DSL 1.00 program
Copy all files from the DSLTEMP folder to the DSL folder overwriting everything
*DOES NOT WORK AFTER THIS POINT*
Run the DSL 1.20 patch directly to the DSL folder
Also, there are bot files in Team0 folder, they do not show up.
I think the teams.txt file is corrupt.
Please post a clean teams.txt file and if possible, a clean Team0 folder or your suggestions.
(Oh yeah, and I did it three times... :) )

heres how to do it:

1.download dsl 1.0
2. make a new empty folder on your desktop.
3. make a fresh, clean copy of robot arena 2
4. open the downloaded file and tell it to self extract to the folder on the desktop.
5. drag all the files in the folder on the desktop to the new robot arena copy. Make sure to tell it to copy over the existing files(overide)

6. download dsl v 1.1
7. clear out folder on desktop (or make a new one)
8 extract to the folder
9 drag files in that folder to the same place you drged the 1.0 files.

that should do it

if you need more help feel free to contact me on msn or aim

Can we try a real solution now?
How about this,
someone uploads their Team folder after backing it up and then deleting all of their teams.
Because I've followed the exact installation goose just described above and I don't want to wait two more days to get a response.

BTW: I have tried extracting the DSL 1.0 to a folder then copying it to RA2 then extracting the DSL 1.1 patch to a folder then copying it to the RA2 folder
I have also tired extracting the DSL 1.0 folder to a temp folder and then extracting 1.1 over the 1.0 folder then copying that to the RA2 folder.
I have attempted every single attempt with a clean RA2 install.
This is just me, but doing the same thing over seven does not make a difference.
Oh yeah, and I've updated to RA2 1.2 before installing DSL.
So what do I do?
Not update to 1.2 because in certain readmes, that's what it tells you to do, unlike Goose's post that doesn't say anything about patching the original game.

You did not say if you have the CD version, or the downloaded version.

BUT either way you have not done it right in any of the ways described above

If you have the CD, there should be no problems......

Install Robot arena2 and patch to v1.2

Download the CD version of DSL
make a new folder on your desktop
install DSL to the new folder
copy/paste, or drag ALL contents of the new folder to your Robot Arena2 folder
allow it to overwrite when prompted
to update to DSL v1.1 make a new folder on the desktop
download and install to the new folder
I like to open the new folder and put the contents in their proper place in the DSL folder, but you probally better just move all as above and overwrite.

If you have the downloaded version you must download the DSL for the downloaded version and follow the directions to the letter.

KAZAA?
KAZAA can go kill itself.
I got the thing from your website, mirror 1, the "downloaded version"
I'm going to get the CD version, because the "downloaded version" seems to not work.

Plus, I ain't an idiot.
I've gotten things ALOT more intricate to work than this.

BTW: I know what its like to have a client that doesn't know how to work something.
The clients a bitch.

there are 2 versions of robot arean 2. one is a cd version, where you get it from store shelves. or a "downloaded" version, where you download ra2 from an online retailer. thats why there are 2 versions of dsl. both have different file placements.

you need 1 of the 2 versions of ra2 for dsl to work... duh

(I fixed and then I looked at yer post, thats how it always works for me)

Why are the downloaded versions different from the cd versions anyway?
Security scheme?
File-size thing?

There is a difference of files in the UI folder (user interface).
When you have the DL version, it says: You have X hours left.
That's a window that goes out from the UI and the EXE. When ya mod the UI, you need to:
-Crack the version: dl a "NO-CD crack", replace the exe from the archive (from the crack)  and replace the UI folder from a CD install. Then you install the mod, but it's illegal.
-Or replacing the UI folder by a modded DL UI folder, not a modded CD UI folder, ot wil screw up.

So any way, the cracked or CD exe and the CD UI need to go together and vice  verca.

if you have a cracked version of the Downloaded version you probally really have the CD version .exe ...
interesting.

I bought it legit for a $10 inflated price at K-Mart.
I didn't want to download it after I reformat every time; that'd be way over 3!
