Title: ai'ing
Post by: Herpaderp64 on June 10, 2017, 08:24:45 AM
ok so i want to enter a super heavyweight bot i have for a tournament of some kind however i'd like to be able to ai it myself since its an invertible vertical spinner bot, so it needs its weapon spinning in an upwards mothion otherwise when it connects with the opponent it will send itself flying and i'd like to know how to make it so when it gets flipped the perm 132 spins in the opposite direction. if there's anyone willling to help that would be great and so would pointing me to a good tutorial for ai'ing on ra2. thanks

VertSpinner.py

There's an AI chart floating around the Downloads section somewhere too that'll explain how to wire up all kinds of stuff.

It's in Philetbabe's signature, to make things less complicated.

Also in the tutorial index right on the front page of the site.

ok so i managed to ai whiplash but im still having the problem where the weapon is still spinning the same direction when flipped resulting in whiplash being thrown instead of the opposition, any way to fix this or is it something im just gonna have deal with and bite the bullet?

I think that's something you'll have to deal with. You COULD make driving backwards also spin the drum in the opposite direction, but this may be fiddly and awkward and it would probably be better to just stick it out and hope you get thrown back the correct way up.

EDIT: yeah ignore me i have gone full retard

Use Drum.py, not Vertspinner.py. I AM WRONG AND I SHOULD END MYSELF Make sure you Wire your spinner to an analog control too.

Download this which comes with basically every other AI file out there instead of the AI chart: https://github.com/apanx/RA2_AI/archive/master.zip

For basic documentation on the .py files, look here: https://github.com/apanx/RA2_AI/blob/master/README.md

You can update your robot and it's AI if you want. What tournament is it, by the way?

Basically, everything has to be fully possible IRL. So no having your spinner not have extenders holding the axle, or having moving parts cut through other moving parts. Everything has to be capable of being done IRL. I recommend opening a showcase now so you can get advice, and if you're wondering how see this tutorial here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=17467
