Yes... I read on Wikipedia that you could unlock the house robots in Robot Wars Arenas of Destruction, but it seems you can not... I wanted to play as Matilda with her chainsaw... oh well...

Quote from: Wikipedia
The House Robots cannot be played, won, or bought by the player, but can be pitted-against them in a one-to-one training confrontation. The RefBot is not included in this largely series 4 based game, but appears in the game that succeeded Arenas of Destruction; Advanced Destruction. The House Robots cannot be played in this game, either, although 'cheats' have appeared in various gaming magazines, which, by pressing a certain button combination, allow the player the option to play as the House Robots. There were a number of gaming bugs, that were attributed to the House Robots, such as attacking before the player came to the Corner Patrol Zone, or randomly, particularly in the Japanese arena, attacking the player, with no referee to stop them. This often resulted in the player's match being compromised.

This is just what I read, and wonder now, is it possible?

Thought I'd bring this topic back to life, with a video of the game. Although I've figured out how to mod this game, along with Robot Wars Extreme Destruction, it's extremely moddable. Here I increased the power of the house robots weapons. Afterwards, I realised I might have increased it just a little too much :baffled:

*BUMP*

Once again, I modded this game! This time, I made sure that the competitor robots will at all cost NEVER freely enter a corner patrol zone. Thanks to some tweaking in the global.dat, and local rwarenat.txt file, that tells the game what spots of the arena are "off-limits" for competitor robots.

A battle between the insanely destructive Hypno-Disc and a robot named "Hawk Eye". Armoured in kevlar, not too much trouble for Hypno-Disc's disctruction to reign supreme!

Note: Yes, I did indeed change Hypno-Disc's flywheel's damaging capability from impacts and also it's cutting edge

In the latest GIF-image. I accidentally posted the GIF with the cropping tag at the end. Removing it solved the problem.

Matilda in a random battle against Razer, as I forgot how awful it was that Razer couldn't self right in Arenas of Destruction, only in Extreme Destruction.

With all respect, I wasn't actually planning on keeping it in high quality as it is only a GIF animation. These are just for fun, and works fine for me. I can record in higher quality, if need be.

It's not just the quality, it's the gifs take up a ridiculous amount of bandwidth compared to videos. Your gif is 83mb; it's fine for me on a 300mb/s connection, it's not so much for people on data caps or very slow connections. There's a reason that gifs aren't used for anything over 10 seconds at the most.

That's a good point. I didn't think about that. For future GIF's, I'll set the recording to around 10 seconds. That's for the tip Badger, I will certainly remember that :)

So I started playing this on my PS2 emulator again and...jesus christ, I think the POWER SOURCE DISABLED immobilisation message is going to be ingrained into my sub-conscious. The only reason I can think of for having this dumb mechanic in the game is to try and balance the real life robots and something overpowered you created. It seems to happen at complete random.

It's not Robot Arena 2 by any means, but as a casual arcade style game, it's pretty fun, if you can get past the bullsh** power supply failures. It runs pretty much perfectly on my emulator, which is more than I can say for games like Everybody's Golf and Crash Nitro Kart.

I've never played ED, but honestly, it looks like the better game. I'm still perplexed as to why they never released it on PS2.

Depends on how the game is coded. If I can find it in some file, it could be done. If not, probably not.
