Well... Hoothoot may end up being useful. When you get to the bug catching contest, try getting a Scyther. Having a Butterfree in your team may also be handy... But if you playing SS, you need to wait for bug contest for that as well.

yeah, I definitely am getting Scyther. But I'm trying to avoid having more than one of each type on my team, and I need a water type (thinking Quagsire) for surf.

So here's my concept for an all-encompasing pokemon game.

You start out as a resident of Violet City in Johto. Your father and Prof. Elm grew up together. One day Elm calls you rfather and tells him that he wants you to come visit him at his lab as soon as possible. Your father reluctantly decides to let you go because you are becoming more responsible with age. He has you take his pokemon for the trip, just to keep you safe. (Lv. 10 Eevee). I chose eevee for this because it ends up being your starter, and after talking to your dad again later on he tells you that he has saved up enough to obtain one evolution stone for your birthday present. This is to replace the element of choice given at the start of the other games. If you choose to decline, it will become an Umbreon or Espeon later on.

OK, this is taking too long. Brief summary from here:

When you get there, you start your journey basically. You go through Johto and then Kanto, Similar to Gen2 but with a different storyline. Once you finish Kanto, You hear about a cruise that is going around through all the regions. (SS Anne) In order to prevent issues that have happened in the past, you are only allowed access to one of your pokemon (Starter) while on the ship. The rest given back to you once you get off. The ship lands in Hoenn, you battle through hoenn. You get back on the ship, they take your pokemon. When you go to get off the ship in Sinnoh, your Pokemon and those of the rest of the passengers are nowhere to be found. As it turns out, Team Rocket captured all of them in transit. Left with just your starter, you basically have to start over for Sinnoh and Unova, battling Team Rocket as well as the usual challenges along the way. it all leads up to a climactic battle where you stop team rocket once and for all.

edit: One of my other ideas is that you lose your starter too. The fact that it belonged to your dad originally gives it a deeper emotional impact.

Also decided to go with Heracross instead of Scyther for my bug-type. BUT I CAN'T BEAT WHITNEY'S STUPID MILTANK. I had it down to 1 friggin HP then Heracross kept being "immobilized by love" while it could pummel me with Rollout. Also, isn't Stomp a normal move? It can hit Gastly somehow.

and I beat Whitney thanks to Gastly's Curse. Now I'm in Mt. Mortar, just screwing around, training pkmn.

Just beat whitney with my traded team (:P)
Vaporeon - 23
Nidorino - 22
Rhyhorn - 21
Magmar - 17 (training it up atm)

Gonna get a scyther and idk what else, perhaps fearow as i have a lvl 20 spearow now.

Can't get sneasel until Mt Silver, sadly, otherwise I'd have one in my team right now.

When it hold metal coat, you need to trade it for it to evolve.

Actually I've decided to scrap sneasel and just keep Tauros as it basically single-handedly defeated the 4th gym (yes you are reading this right)

I'm gonna catch a pidgey as a fly slave until I get Skarmory lol

My scyther is lvl 45/46. Not gonna evolve it. Makes the growth of the speed stat drop.

I want to evolve my Haunter. Will be visiting a friend today where I can do that.

Oh lord, everyone for me at that point was in the late 30s. Methinks I was doing it wrong :P

Got a seadra to 38, thinking about evolving it. Also got a swinub to train up for the last gym.
