Title: Let's name TRUE exclusive franchises by letter.
Post by: ianh05 on May 26, 2013, 04:30:26 AM
These are true exclusive franchises that you can't get anywhere else! (other consoles, rival handhelds, PC, iOS, Android and Mobile.) Franchises also on arcade machines are NOT excluded because they cost a fortune and no one buys them unless they're rich.

Each franchise must have at least 2 games.
Each franchise can not be available on other consoles, rival handhelds, PC, iOS, Android or Mobile.
Franchises also on arcade machines ARE allowed.
Each game must be an official licensed game (not fan-made).

Add these to Xbox:

We are going for franchises not single games. Pokemon is Nintendo exclusive, so is Donkey Kong.

I wonder if Halo can even count as an exclusive for Microsoft any more because Halo 2600 is on an Atari system  :dumb) .

You said franchises. When you say "can not be on PC" you imply that none of the franchises listed have anything released for PC which many of what you listed do.

the original Donkey Kong game was released on multiple different home PC platforms.

This has nothing to do with single games, you said non-PC franchises and many of those franchises were on PC at one point or another.

Nope, the point of this is to find out which franchises are truly exclusive to each companies consoles/handhelds.

For Nintendo you could probably have X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_%281992_video_game%29)
For Sony you could have The Getaway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Getaway_%28video_game%29)
For Xbox you could have Amped (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amped:_Freestyle_Snowboarding)

Sonny, some of those aren't exclusive like Dragon Quest which has also been on Playstation consoles.

Alex "X" looks like Xenoblade to me and if it is a new IP then it still only has 1 game so far.

honestly i feel the exact opposite it just shows companies are just money greedy whores by the fact that they make games only for their console which forces people to buy it

Huh, I thought you were talking about the one that was released for Windows 95 (I think) on disc.

And surely Zelda can't be on there because of the CDi ones (unless those are disregarded)

Unless I am mistaken, the My Sims games are Nintendo exclusives. Wii Sports is too.

For Playstation, I'm pretty sure Ape Escape is an exclusive.

I'm sure I know some other things, I just can't think of them right now.

Edit: And of course, the Eye Toy series of games would be Playstation exclusive

Sucks for them then, why would you buy an Xbox if (like most people) you have a PC? I know a lot of the newer games in the franchises are coming to Xbox only though but they should be making Xbox more appealing with exclusive IP's.

Because some people may have an obsolete PC/laptop, or just have one that doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the game they want to play and not want to shell out a good £500 to have a computer that can play said game.

Why would anyone buy any new consoles when they have a PC?

Answer:  Because they have way too much money.  We are talking about hundreds and hundreds of disposable income that they can throw around on maybe a few games they actually like, then throw another few hundreds on games they don't really like and just collects dust after purchase.

Are you kidding? console exclusives wreck PC exclusives, seriously the best games ever are on consoles and lots of them don't come to PC. Just go look at the first page to see some of the franchises you can't get on PC and if we were naming games there would be even more there that the PC misses out on and even multi-plats don't all come to PC. I obviously have a PC but when it comes to games it just doesn't compete, I uses it for the web and RA2 mostly and that's all.

You just proved my point; people who do that have a lot of money to throw around.

I am not paying $1000 just to get a console and a TV before I even start buying $60 "exclusive" games.  With $1000 I can buy 20 years worth of games on steam summer sales.

you can count ZombieU as franchise since Ubisofts first ever released title was Zombi. But that makes it not compatible with the list since Zombi was released 1986 on PC. If you don`t count Zombi in then ZombieU isn`t a franchise but a single game.

Using those rules, several games need to be removed. "Earthbound" isn't a franchise, it's the American title of Mother 2. Wii Fit has only had one game. (Wii Fit+ wasn't a sequel, it was Wii Fit with some added mini games.)

Hotel Dusk doesn't count as "Hotel Dusk" is the North American name for Last Wish. Last Windows never came out in North America, therefore Hotel Dusk is the sole game in its franchise.

The game Yoshi never had a sequel, nor did Yoshi's Story or Yoshi's Cookie. Yoshi's Island has a sequel, but the first game is actually just Super Mario World 2.

"Luigi" isn't a game, it's a character. Luigi's Mansion, however, is a franchise.

You kids don't know what you're talking about. Spin-offs are separate franchises than the main series.

The Pokemon offerings on PC were spinoffs and non-game software. Pokemon:TCG is an entirely different series with an entirely different set of rules, types, items, etc. So while one could argue that Pokemon: TCG isn't a Nintendo exclusive, Pokemon (Red, Green, Blue, Gold, Silver, Crystal, etc.) is. Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Rumble, and Pokemon Ranger are also exclusive franchises.

Mario Bros. (offered on the Atari and such) is an entirely different game (yes, there was only one made) than, say, Mario Party or Super Mario Bros. The CD-i Zelda games are non-canon and weren't even made by Nintendo.

Just because a character (or characters) from a game appear in some form on another system, that doesn't negate any other games they appear in.

So we're using the Wikipedia definition? I disagree with it, but I can accept it.

Why are we using "exclusive" to mean "has never had any games on any other platform ever"? I submit that a better definition is "currently only offered on one company's platform(s)". This would make the list far more relevant and would allow for people to contribute to the list without having to worry about some esoteric offshoot or port.

Well I always considered Mario etc. as franchises and stuff like Mario Kart, Mario Bros. and 3D mario as series. This list to put it simply is a "you can't play this franchise anywhere else" list.
I would consider Mario to be more of an IP, but I guess that's just semantics.

My point about exclusivity is that while you may have been able to play, say, Halo: CE  and Halo 2 on PC and Mac, all subsequent Halo games have been exclusively on Xbox systems. Any list that doesn't consider Mario to be a Nintendo exclusive and Halo to be an Xbox exclusive is ridiculous.
