4. Do online reviews affect your purchasing decisions for consoles? yes, but not too much. if the reviews are mostly about reliability or something similar then i might be a bit hesistant, but usually if i find something i like the look/sound of then i'll buy it

Do advertisements affect your purchasing decisions for consoles? yes, most of the stuff i buy console wise comes from advertisements that i've seen or when people recommend it to me. if there weren't ads then i probably wouldn't know enough about the console to buy it, or perhaps even bother to look it up :P

6. How does the price factor into your decision to purchase a new Console? 4 (if the product is groundbreaking then it doesn't really matter, but i don't really have an income right now so money is an issue)

How important is this to you?  4 (usually i buy a console just to play some games that have been release (pokemon x/y for example), and then later find some more games that i like on that console. it's important to start off with though for me)

When it comes to consoles, how important is it that you have the latest technology?  2 (obviously i don't want to get left behind on what everyone is talking about when it comes to new releases, but i rarely ever buy something brand new. i dont see any problem in waiting for a console, mostly because there are few games that are able to be played on the console. and sometimes you get them much cheaper with more benefits later on :P)
10. When it comes to consoles, how important is it that you have the oldest technology? (retro-gaming) 1 (if i don't like it, i most likely wont buy it, no matter what people will say. if i have some spare time then sure, i'll check some of the older stuff out. but it's definitely not a priority and not many people will talk about the older stuff anyway)

i'd be more tempted to buy a handheld console than a bigger console like an xbox or similar, just because it's so much easier and more flexible

My answers:

1. I already have a WiiU, but I might not get the new consoles. I'll have to try them out for myself first before I decide if I want them or not.

2. I have never purchased a console myself, but I'm pretty sure that they were all from the store. Although my Dreamcast and Saturn were bought used online and my 360, which is technically my sister's, was won in an essay contest held by Microsoft.

3. I am not loyal to a specific brand, but if I REALLY had to choose, it would be Nintendo.

4. Yes, somewhat. Although, as said before, I have never purchased a console before.

5. No.


6. 2-- Price vs. quality is a balance that is difficult to maintain. Yet it should be maintained as much as possible.

7. 5-- Take the 3DS for example: an amazing concept, but the launch titles were generally mediocre and the price was so high that people were turned off from the 3DS. First impressions are important. They can be what makes or brakes an opinion of something.

8. 3-- The old franchises draw older fans back to the next console, while new mechanics in these franchises draw in the newer fans.

9. 2-- If you can afford the latest console and you want it, go ahead and purchase it.

10. 2-- I think that retro games are cool, but there are emulators for some older consoles that work on most platforms. Sure, it's technically piracy, but I doubt that the companies will freak out over a product that they're no longer making money on, even if they're still under copyright protection. Not to promote piracy, but you know what I'm saying.

1. No. I purchased a 3DS XL back in January, and I'd much rather wait it out to see what I get next.
2. In-store, though that 3DS was my first online purchase.
3. No. I have owned at least one system from each of the Big 3 since this last generation of systems came out.
4. Somewhat. It does help wade through the mess of bad games, but when I know of certain franchises that pump out good games, I tend to get them blindly.
5. Not at all.
6. 4; price is a pretty important factor.
7. 1; I am usually somewhat of a late adopter when it comes to systems.
8. 3; Outside of the Pokemon series, there are really no games that will absolutely make me stand at attention to being brand loyal.

Backwards compatibility (or lack thereof) can be a decider, especially when mixed with the aforementioned point about it having a good lineup of future games (there's only a certain amount of space in the house that can be spared for technology, and only a certain amount of six-strips you can use before it becomes a fire risk).

I think the 2DS is a step in the right direction for Nintendo, especially coinciding with Pokemon X/Y, however it's a shame it looks... like toast. I'm really hoping Valve pull some strings to make Steam Box very competitively priced.
