Post by: trumpetguy on May 28, 2009, 09:59:30 PM
This is a little underpowered and I diobeyed the rule not to use weapon motors for wheels, well my 1st DSL bot

reminds me of my latest bot I showcased in DSL, SSG and Naryar said the Piglets are a waste, 2 wheel drive TWMR are better

not really
piglets have low torque meaning not so good for drive
try to use twm3r drive motors

I made this one in 30 min. 5mm plastic or alim I forgot
(http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/rr148/dswff/Bot-1.jpg)
p.s. I changed the motor thanks for the tip but I had to exchange the battlepack for an ant battery I am also planning to exchange the weapon motor for less weight

bit unrealsitic.
the spinner goes though the batts
try to use vlads wheel as they are gripper and use the right npc and the left npc for the drive as because right now it is unbalanced
also try to put a wedge in there

ok
loads of empty space in the chassis. in other words weight wasted
add more batts as it looks underpowered. invested more weight into the weapon and try to add a wedge

Good you are designing your chassis around your components, not throwing a bunch of stuff in a huge ass chassis like most newbies...

Anyways:

-Your HS is probably the most underpowered DSL bot i've ever seen. At least 2 battlepacks and 2 ants for that. And DSL bars with hammers are probably the best weapon on HS.

-Your VS is HIGHLY overpowered. 7-8 ants would be enough. Also try to avoid weapons with normals (as axes and pole spikes since they only do damage in one direction) in DSL.

-Your popup is underpowered, and all decent or good LW popups use only 1 burst motor as weapon both in stock and DSL.

And i think that all of Doomkiller's advice in this showcase is good.

AZN Phailure IV 5mm plastic a less powerful weapon motor but less weight (hammers are too heavy)
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Pwnator on May 29, 2009, 11:53:52 PM
Not that bad, but not that good either.

You are using bear claws, which have normals (it means it only causes damage at the tips). Use 2 NPC motors instead (fast versions if possible) so you can have a smaller chassis (you can put them slightly outside the chassis). And since your weapon reach is quite long, you can use a smaller DSL bar, use an extender and point it down, and add the 30kg sledges (25 if you're short on weight). And don't underpower the bot more than 50% of its output.

[Edit] Crap. Edited out wrong advice. XD

Hmmm... I think 2 Drive E-teks is enough for that. Upgrade the weapon motor because I doubt that you can self-right with that. And tribars are weak, to it's better to use DSL bars with stronger weapons.

And ditch the extender from the drive to the baseplate. You can connect the drive directly anyway.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Naryar on May 30, 2009, 01:30:39 AM
Not too bad.

But a 150+ kg weapon is too much on a E-tek, also that weapon isn't a lot on a SHW, and Pwn's right again, that drive is a lot for a SHW VS.

EDIT: Pwnator, the angled Magmotors are drive motors, not weapon ones.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: trumpetguy on May 30, 2009, 10:59:04 AM
I changed the dual z-tek with two perms meaning 4 DSL bars with cutting tooth spinning. But are you saying I should replace the z-tek drives?
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Pwnator on May 30, 2009, 09:19:25 PM
Not to replace, but just cut down on it. Use 2 instead of 4.

Overpowered, and get Magmotors for weapons. It could be also much more compact, and you could use the blue control board. Also static wedges suck.

You're improving.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Doomkiller on May 31, 2009, 02:48:38 AM
not bad.
just use the blue control board and as naryar said, static wedges suck
as for the weapon motor just change the weapons to razer tips. just see Entrapment :)

@doomkiller:razor tips are brittle with 1000 hp and iron spikes have 3000 hp but razer tips have 400 dp and iron spikes have 300 dp.
@wierdo: nobody's perfect.......while building combat robots.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Naryar on May 31, 2009, 11:49:16 AM
Trumpetguy stop hiding behind sayings like "Nobody's perfect".

Yes nobody is perfect, but Weirdo while being picky is RIGHT.

Offcenter weapons make your bot less symmetric, and the more symmetric your bot is, the better it drives.

Now if you want to let them off-center, fine, just say it.

Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: trumpetguy on June 11, 2009, 05:08:53 PM
For Flailing Champ I lowered the chassis and compacted the space a little better.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Pwnator on June 11, 2009, 09:47:24 PM
I got a better idea for Flailing Champ. Naryar told me before that SnS doesn't need that much battery power. So try using NPC (or fasts, if possible) and use Vlad/Tornado wheels while still using 2 ants. Then instead of a baseplate anchor, use the multiextender instead and attach the axle mount directly to it.

And since the bot only spins in one direction, the other side of the flail is pointless. So just put all the weapons to a specific side. You can downgrade the extenders to titanium if you're short on weight.

Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Pwnator on June 12, 2009, 10:50:14 PM
For the BW, try swapping the heights of the ant and the copals. That should make it harder to kill. A BW's 180kg, right?

As for the SHW though, I'm not quite happy with it. Hammer/poker hybrids are not quite effective. And as usual, concentrate on the hammer (and not the rear disc) and add some wedges.
Title: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!

I'm not sure Alpha Byter has enough drive power to be very effective. It's also vastly underpowered. Try using the left over weight to improve drive and add some more batteries (ants or battlepacks preferably).

Kitchen Utensils: This is truly heck's kitchen.
First off the lightweight.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/9462Bot Beater 2.bmp)
Pros:

Fast Spinup
Average Armour (5mm Plastic)
Cons:
A little low on battery life (5 ants)

Those 2 bottom Beater bars on the lower disc go trough the motor, attach a 20 poly extender inbeetween the disc and the motor so that the lover disc is under the bot.

Other than that, its a pretty decent one.

Or if you're very short on weight, use a skirt hinge. Also, you can actually make a poker out of your FS's chassis. Just widen it a bit so add the tank, and replace the piglet with a storm piston.

I'll start off with the most obvious (because Naryar's not here to say it otherwise):  Get rid of that empty space!  I would also use medium or large beater bars instead of those spike strips so that the weapon array is even.  You could probably have a better drive as well.
Otherwise, it looks pretty good.  Nice job!  If you want, you can take an example from Stiletto, my LW poker.

To be honest, it isn't as impressive as it looks. You simply have more damaging weapons, thus you score more points. And since the SHW spends a lot of time flapping around, I could see you easily scoring more points than him.

Alright the new stats for the new Singe (Singe 5) more spikes higher percentage to defeat lock nut. Old Singe: 2 out of 10, New Singe: 7 out of 10. It even beat WIIDE LOAD once. Definitely my LW tournament entry.

The plows look like they block the weapon.  If they do, then may I suggest arranging them in a V-shape so that not only are they no longer in the way of the weapon, but also they can trap opponents more easily?
For an example of this, see Box of Grime.

Part of a team I'm creating for the  NAR pack and might be making an appearence in the RPG Tourney. The bot is based on CB's Darkling. It is stable, except when it is turning too much, so I might downgrade the drive.

what exactly are you trying to do ? decals ? because personally I tried GIMP and imo its not that great, now days when I need TGA files for RA2 I make png with transparency and use a batch converter to change the format to TGA with transparency.

also one question on you bot, how straight does it drive ? it looks like one drive is a tiny bit more forward then the other?

and as far as your turning to fast issues, you could always edit the turn speed in the bindings so it wont make turns to fast.

We already know...

The hammers on the first version look like they might intersect the extenders: rotate them 90 degrees if they do.

Downgrade to 6-mags on the second version, and remove a few of the teeth or replace the pc545 with a couple of ant batts.  That should maybe get you down to weight.

I actually tried the plow the other way and then the bots wedge got stuck on it even after I lowered it. Changed it to Vlads. and I'll try to play around the chassis to fit the NPCs inside. It was originally inside but due to weight I have to shrink the chassis.

I'm worried about the reach, though.  I bet it would be better with a smaller, but more durable disc and longer weapon arms.  Speaking of which, you might want to swap out those weapon extenders for something else, like DSL bars.

You might be able to upgrade your armor to use up the remaining weight.  Even if it's aluminum or steel it's still better than having unused weight.

The setup is simple: one long bar, at the end are hammers in the middle is the flamethrower.

My setup is practically always simple, since I follow the rule by Team S.L.A.M.: 'Keep it simple, stupid'

It's originally S.L.A.M. then when they built K.I.S.S. they decided to rename their team, but I always remember the name S.L.A.M. possibly because it well sounds more destructive and it is.

I don't see the point of the hex plates. You could just use an extender....

EDIT: Oops, I meant only the plates that are arranged vertically and appear to only be holding one tooth.

put 2 polycarb skirt on the 2 side connection of your dsl disk.  They can act as wheel guard as well as keeping enemy bot in the front while poking.

6 ants is the minimum for that design (since you want to keep the Perms fully powered throughout the match). Just downgrade to 5mm tite and you could even make the flamers static to get rid of its havoky-ness. :D

Its for BTTB and my requirement was to make a flamethrower VS as in the flamethrower on the spinner, and hopefully GK will AI it with energy saving omni since theres not that much weight and because of that it starts up faster.

Edit: O w8 thar iz 6, 4 on top of each other in the center and two on the side....Its all gooooooooooooood.

You need more weapons. Downgrade your drive.

That bot looks awesome from that angle, but a few more angles would help as well.  I had to think for a bit to figure out what it was.

You're already very pressed for weight, so the only way you'll get a wedge on there is to sacrifice drive, which means you'll stand no chance against spinners.  If you do add a wedge you'll have to drop down to Astroflights (Slims will only save 10 kgs).  Then use a metal hinge with a long skirt on it.  Depending on what material the wedge is, you may have weight to strengthen the side skirts (which need strengthening).

And 8 light teeth should be enough for gut-ripping purposes.  It looks like the side skirts could help scoop bots on top of the weapon.

Armour is Plastic 3? (The 2nd lowest)

Use hex plates instead, make the chassis smaller, drop the armour to plastic 3, add more razors.

Unless he sacrifices a whole lot, odds are he will not be able to add four more razors.

Drop the plastic 3 armour to plastic 3
The main problem I see here is the exposed astros which can get destroyed VERY quickly.
TBH though, I preffered your previous bot more.
Title: Re: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: NFX on December 19, 2010, 05:15:15 PM
It doesn't look terribly bad. I might actually try Hexplates with three razors on the edges and one on top or something like that. You could upgrade the weak poly extenders at the back, I reckon they might be very suspect. Maybe shorten the extenders holding the piglets on, and upgrade the armour a little bit. Tiny Plastic 3 chassis like that probably isn't going to last too long.

Post by: Naryar on December 19, 2010, 05:18:15 PM
FOTEPX, enough with the bad advice already !

Interesting design, but this needs more speed. You should get lighter extender work, notably by not using overly long Alu extenders and maybe shortening the wedge as well.

Why put a razor on top of the hex? It wouldn't realy come in as usefull as the extra armour for example that he could get with that 14kg.
But yeah, everything else is spot on, infact if you do bring the weapons further back, it may help defend those wheels aswell.
Title: Re: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: NFX on December 19, 2010, 05:42:19 PM
Yeah, I guess not. I just wanted to keep the 8 razors on there somehow with something other than the heavy drum component or a disc. 6 razors seems quite low for a LW now, I think.
Title: Re: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: Urjak on December 19, 2010, 05:47:16 PM
I had a very similar bot design to this (not saying you are cloning). You might want to reposition your weapons so they are closer to your chassis. I would also upgrade your wheels to something more grippy (or upgrade the drive motors themselves).

Would mounting the motors inside the chassis help?
Title: Re: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: trumpetguy on December 19, 2010, 06:38:08 PM
Kinda hard, because
a) it would be cutting into the extenders
b) it would be cutting into the motors
c) I can only fit one
d) I would not be able to fit the batteries
e) I would not be able to fit the CB
Title: Re: Trumpetguy's showcase for me to learn!
Post by: NFX on December 19, 2010, 06:40:28 PM
I meant the Slims. If you raised the chassis height a little bit, you could get the Slimbodies mounted internally, so they wouldn't fall off, and the poly extender wouldn't be needed. It'd save a few kg, in my view.
