Title: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: TriTon on October 09, 2009, 12:27:21 AM
My other DSL showcase has been dead for a while, so #2 is here

Here is Hades, a somewhat decent hammer.

Why make a new showcase? Doesn't matter if it's 'been dead' for a while. Just bump it instead of making a new one. Oh well.

those Gothic axe heads are custom components, so this bot should really be in a custom showcase

No they're not.

About the bot it's not bad. However, i think these spike clubs and rear DSL bars are worthless.

You could use 2 plows and make a trapping V-design like i did on Rabid Grisly Bear.

Perfect. Now you must  remove the side armor and play with the remaining weight.

It would look cooler if you made the chassis to fit the ramplates's V, however.

It looks nice, it's well armored, but it seems a little underweaponed for a SHW. Unless you're really using that JX motor for a lifter, I think you should ditch it and get some heavier weapons. Dual perms or bigger hammers would work.

The JX acts as a Srimech, ocasionally, the blades will get stuck in the ground, & i use the JX to get out.

And either get a wedge either use Ti halfsheets for bottom protection.

You're probably better off with stronger wedge and weaker plows.  Invest the kg into a double wedge system.  There's no point of having a popup if you can't wedge someone.

Post by: Pwnator on October 22, 2009, 04:14:24 AM
What he said, and use multi-extenders instead of anchors. Better yet, place the JXes inside the chassis. Which means, you have to rebuild the chassis again (always have a small chassis unless it needs a big chassis for stability).

Titanium 1.

It's sort of a short hammer.
Title: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: Pwnator on October 29, 2009, 11:23:14 PM
Hammers need a trap and not a big wedge. A rectangular chassis is often the best chassis in DSL, so it's gonna need some rebuilding. Also, your skirt wedges are not centered. Remove them and use 1 or 2 metal hinge wedges instead. Cut the empty space from the drive, use a blue control board and upgrade the armor using the extra weight.

Not neccesarily true !

And hammers with wedges like this fail.

Foine. Fixed it. XD

Anyway, hammers usually use a trapper so bots can't break the arms when they go up the wedge (see what happened to Epic Flailure).

Functionally speaking, 1 long DSL bar will be more durable than multiple parts.

You might also want to consider using angled skirts on the 2 sides to cover your chassis a bit.

Rebuilt Desperation HW to a much more destructive form.

5mm Titanium armor
12 razors

Small amount of empty space which i'm trying to fix, and it need to make it able to self right, or run inverted.

Yes! It is similiar to Fast'N'Furious, this was the only chassis shape(besides the first Desp HW) that would work.

Post by: Pwnator on November 14, 2009, 12:22:22 AM
I personally don't like skinny bots since they're quite easy to flank, but E-wedges = bad. Also, I think its narrowness also contributes to its self-righting problem. Make it wider and stuff your batts between the motors so you'll have a wider and shorter bot that can self-right easier. :D

The sheet on top is to protect against hammers, and any bot that finds it's way onto it's top.
Title: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: kill343gs on November 20, 2009, 10:27:07 PM
The only bots that would be dangerous on the top are crawlers and flipped drums... Not that big of a deal. Hammers are somewhat rare too, you're better off with the stronger armor because more bots are a threat from every other side than just the top.
Title: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: Clickbeetle on November 21, 2009, 12:02:16 AM
Plus that front armor is on a skirt hinge, which means it will flex on impact, exposing your chassis.

You can probably remove the top plate and/or some batteries (by my calculation, the bot needs only 103 amps) and upgrade the armor.

Too heavy wedge.
You need more weapons.
You only need like 3 ants for that.

AND STOP USING MY BOTS' NAMES >:E

lol j/k :P

Anyway, as Reier said, it's chassis is too big (and because of that, my Apache would pwn yours :P). A box or T chassis would save much more weight and make it more compact and less exposed. Use two skirt hinges for the wedge. One at the bottom, for going under, and another one at the top for feeding low bots into the weapon. Try to make the chassis as short as possible (either you can't move a side NPC up a pixel or can't even attach a side NPC at all) because LW's need to be very conservative when it comes to weight. :D

Title: Re: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: The Ounce on December 05, 2009, 06:04:43 PM
That is true only when it comes to spin motors.  Burst and drive motors still have to be fully powered.  Just check the component txts to find out how much power you need.

...Built a tribute bot, I see?

This bot actually needs about 6 ants, and it is possible to attach the weapon extenders to multi extenders.  I think a wider wheels stance would help here, too.
Title: Re: TriTons DSL showcase II
Post by: Pwnator on December 05, 2009, 11:42:03 PM
The multi-extender idea really messes up with your mind. I tried it once and I thought it was too brittle, until I realized it was attached to the baseplate. XD

Anyway, from what I can see here, it looks neat. But more ants means more time to kick ass. XD

Seperated wedges = easier for bots to get under = more losses = bad bot

Close wedges = Pretty much single wedge = less area covered = easier for bots to get under = more losses = bad bot :D

if your wedges are good robots wont get under them regardless, the only time wide wedges are bad is if they are really short for then a single long wedge can get under it.

Epic bump.

I think I should take another crack at building. I built this in 123AI.

Currently unfinished & unnamed popup. 7 ants, 8 razors, 4 half sheets underneath. Some clone of inspiration from Beautiful Oblivion. Still don't know what to do with remaining 195 kg.

BTW, I read somewhere here(forgot where) and it said something called hinge armor, and I don't know what that is. Can someone give me an explanation of it?

Hey, your back. Underweight and you might want some front armor prtection. Good job though.

Needs more ants, is it a true pop-up?
I think what you mean by hinge armour is Narmour which uses the collision mesh of teh skirt hinge for armour...
I think i'll let others expand on this
Looks good for an unfinished bot  :gawe:
Oh and what armour?

Thanks for explanation. Armor is Titanium 3.

Look at the collision mesh of a skirt hinge (using F12), it is much larger than it should be.
As skirt hinge components are attatched to the baseplate, they are incincible, thus giving you invincible armour
Its just like using castor armour in stock

Some members (including me), see this as cheap and cheaty however, JoeBloeven remade the collision mesh preventing it

I would put some front armor on the front and amp the armor a bit.

Also, welcome back :D

7 ants is definitely underpowered for this machine, I reckon you'd need about twice that for the bursts you have at the moment. Front could definitely use protection as well, but I'm not really sure it'll self-right effectively enough with the wedge being that long.

If the JXs are small, he needs 12 ants
If they are large, he needs 16 ants

4 BGS's are kind of enough for HW Popups, I reckon. As long as the wedges are good enough (Mine aren't) then you should be okay with them.

I might try using 4-6 BSG's and lower the chassis a bit and add frontal armour.

4 is fine. 6 is pushing it.
