TommyProductionsInc DSL Showcase
« on: March 06, 2014, 06:18:39 PM »
I ran out of ideas for my stock showcase, so i finally decided to begin a DSL showcase.
First up is an experimental full body drum spinner named Rolling Pin Of DOOM:

And the innards:

Next is a robot that i NEED assistance with, Metallicus:

And the innards:

The main focus here is Metallicus, Rolling Pin Of DOOM is really just a show bot.
I need some ideas, desperately! :rage

For the way you're going, I would look at Scrap Daddy's, Virus Bomb's, Thyrus's, and NFX's shoecases. Rolling Pin is actually a great idea.

Anyway, here's a walker i thought up, and it doesn't havok explode AT ALL!

Again, I NEED ideas for robots, so how about some suggestion on a type of robot I could make, then see how I can improve.
I seriously have nothing else that could be showcased, so need some ideas. :ermm:

The first thing that you should know about DSL building is that it is very different from Stock building. Everything has to be possible in real life, though not everything has to be realistic. This is where the two kinds of DSL building--IRL and DSL-S--differ. DSL Standard is more like Stock building, where the main goal is to make the bot as effective as possible. IRL building is where you try to build the best-looking or most realistic bot. You don't have to choose now, and you could become one of few people that do both. That would be cool.

As for ideas, try remaking some of your older Stock bots in DSL or look at other DSL showcases for inspiration. I have a DSL showcase, as does pretty much every other active builder that isn't Mechadino (he only does Stock).

Also I think that the walker bot is cool.

Also, what armor do these bots use? Always post the armor. Generally, the Titanium and plastic armors are the best, but Steel 5 is also pretty good. When you make showcase posts, post as much information about the bot as possible, such as armor, type of NPC-T64 drive motor, etc.

Whoops, I forgot about that. :dumb)
I always use NPC-T64 Fasts on my bots.
Here's a slightly revised Sit'n'Spin'n'...Other Stuff:

He's about 248 KGs
Heres the internals:

Here's a HEAVILY revised Rusty 1.5:

Weighs in at 397 KGs
And here's his internals:

By the way, are Judge Bursts allowed on IRL designs?

Rusty: You could just use a second skirt hinge for the plow. Also, You MIGHT want to use Judge Burst Motors instead. Might wanna try and lower the armor for more weapons.

SnSnOS: Try not to use Aluminum or Steel for armor. They are the least efficient, Plastic and Titanium however are better choices. Also, Techno Destructo wheels and Hypno Disc wheels are the grippiest in DSL. Might want to replace the rubbers with either of those instead.

Yes, Judge bursts are allowed on IRL designs, but I have a tough time figuring put which of your bots are IRL or DSL-S; however since you're new here, that's okay.

It's probably DSL-S considering he's burst stacking the plow and the aluminum wedges

Don't use mag snappers or the stock extenders on the second one.

Read this: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=5739.0
...and this: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=14050.msg592697#msg592697

The extender work is shown in DSL3, but it's universal to all RA2 versions.

Those aren't Mag Snappers, they're Judge Bursts, and as for the extender work, I'll see what i can do.  ;)
In the meantime, here's a very slow but functional and non-havoking walker, which DOES use Mag Snappers:

And here he is in action:

Thanks again for the advice, and also, did you get my PM?

Rusty shouldn't be using Judge bursts because it's not IRL.

Walker looks VERY nice however, I will say well done on that.

Walker looks sweet. I think it'd look better with a weapon, maybe a vertical spinner or axe?

Thanks guys!
I'll try and make an actual competitive robot that utilises that walking system.
Here's an update on Rusty:

And the insides:

Also, what do you guys think about Sit'n'Spin'n'...Other Stuff?
Is he all good?
