Hey tim! Nice bot, looks quite good. However, you don't need two multi-extenders, i'm very sure that you can just attach the motor on without the 2nd multi-extender, saving you 6kgs for whatever you want.

I actually think the first bot was set up a little bit better, but he could drop the material on the flipper skirts to Aluminium, or Titanium if they're Steel, saving about 4 or 5 kg to get Plastic 3. Or maybe Tite 3 could be an option if he has enough weight.

I would get rid of 2 ants. Saves 13 KG and then you could get Titanium 3 with the weight.

That'd leave him a bit underpwoered though, he could possibly get away with one less though.

yes I disagree with Badnik, I wouldnt drop it below 5 ants.. 6 is probably pretty good for this application

1 BSG requires at least 2 ants i would stick to 6 ants. making the chassis smaller might also help to get more weight.

side note: this is not his actual first bot, he's been getting tips from me from the start. this is just the first proper bot, and he finally got to showcasing.

Ah, that's good. In any case, drop from Titanium to Aluminium on the flipper skirts and upgrade the armor to Tite 3 if you can.

Title: Re: timothy700 's showcase
Post by: powerrave on October 15, 2010, 10:23:31 AM
have heard that excuse enough times. even if you didn't directly edit the chassis, then it is still a very cheap clone.

@KM: i once send him Nightbox2 (BW) so he could see how bots were supposed to be build. pretty soon after he had Killbox (LW), a robot with pretty much the same chassis, same battery placement and the same type of weapon setup.
and that's the explanation.

I think grammar and spelling need work here.

I do expect he posted from a touchscreen phone though.

EDIT:
This is another explanation for the grammar

nothing a spell check can't fix, right?

oh, and i dug up the two bots to take a close look. left=Nightbox2. right=Killbox.

KB chassis is bigger from what i saw. nice lot of empty space. still doesn't change the fact that is is a cheap clone.

Rave, It's very obvious that he's taken inspiration from you, but other than that, the two bots are actually quite different. Consider it Nightbox's deformed brother.
Title: Re: timothy700 's showcase

It's not a "clone" since the weapon setup is different.
Title: Re: timothy700 's showcase

it only has 2 extra angled plates on it, only to get it in lightweight class. for how far is that different?

other: MOAR BOTS! and i think i'll showcase Nightbox3 some time.

Enough to make a difference when inverted.

It IS similar to your bot, sure, and hence what I call a ripoff, but not a clone.

Plus, he can clone in order to learn when he's new.

Titanium.

You only need TWM3R's, NPC-64's are overkill. Make the chassis a bit smaller, and add more spikes.

Post by: Scorpion on October 31, 2010, 02:50:00 PM
I'd keep the npcs personally.
Tighten up the chasis, downgrade titanium extenders to aluminium and then add more razors.

GK is correct. Keep the NPC's, a rammer's strength lies in its speed.

Chassis could stand to be a bit smaller, and you could lighten up the extender work a little (2 razors per extender), but on the whole it's not too bad. Technically you only need 2 ants there, as well.

If you attach the weapons on a skirt hindge like the bot in the picture you can more weapons on for less weight

Yeah, as I said before keep the npcs but switch to aluminium extenders.
Also tighten up the chassis and then add more razors, probably like SKBT said, that seems the easiest way here.

NPCs >>> TWM3R Drives.

Anyways, not bad. It's underweight though, and you can make a smaller chassis.

It's alright, but has a glaring weakness in drive. Make a bigger chassis and put your motors inside, so you'll have 12 kg more to play with (well less if you build another chassis, but still...

10 razors is also more than enough on a LW, unless you fall on a Gearhead-style rammer.

Also can you please develop your sentences so we can know what you precisely mean ?
Title: Re: timothy700 's showcase

its a cube class so i coldent mace it biger for my drive motors
Title: Re: timothy700 's showcase
Post by: Scorpion on December 17, 2010, 12:17:14 PM
Yeah, you need to work on your english, coherent sentences would be nice actually.
Anyway, you could easily fit slimbody drive into that chassis without rebuilding the chassis actually, so you should definately do that.

If you're gonna keep that long a weapon rack, you can safely get rid of the two side-mounted razorz as they are probably just going to be a nuissance as they're not really protecting anything. Also use the ctrl key to raise the rack up to the middle of the bot.

He only returns for big tournaments.
But that's what annoys me with big tournaments like BBEANS. A load of people who probably have only just got the game sign up, waste space with multiple SFTW entries, before quitting again, almost as suddenly as they came.

But then again, maybe we could accomodate them if we simply don't accept Sparkles' next entry, eh?

By better, I didn't just mean faster. With the free weight, you can upgrade your flippers (you might be able to use wide ant wheels as well). If it's fast enough for the wedge to be effective, go for it. If not, then you can just revert to your old setup.
