Title: The Unknown Robotic's DSL Showcase
Post by: TheUnknownRobotics on March 11, 2014, 08:40:07 PM
Lol.
Arrrgh. Will make a DSL robot very soon! (Dang my Last Rites)

Just to show version ONE of Blizzerd:

(FINALLY, a robot that's considered OKAY)

Time to fix. (I think you're referring to the braces of the wheels. Might as well think of something new. The blade I'll keep for now. I'll change the wedge to aluminium. Dat good?)

I like Blizzerd, the casters I think they are not needed here, and the wheels are overprotected, you could also show your interior and give more details if you like

You actually LIKED Blizzerd? (HAS THIS WORLD GONE MAD)
Thanks. I'll try fixing that (BTW, the protection for the wheels are needed, since robots will most likely destroy the sides. The casters... yeah I'll take them out). I MIGHT show interior, but that may lose your taste on a robot from me, that is actually LIKED, or even, KNOWN!

I love you, btw (no Homo).

I'm unaware of whether this is meant to be IRL or Standard, but if it's IRL you need some disc supports. If it's not, it's alright, but those wedges aren't great - consider getting rid of the casters and using a metal hinge wedge or something.

remove casters indeed, all they do is ruin your wedge

It would be a start, but it would still be messy. I'd start with fixing the wheel guards and making it more streamlined, but it would still be messy.

It's standard. Don't feel like making IRL robots just because I can have fun with my stuff. I will remove the casters. The only reason why I put them on is because some random noise plays when the spikes are hitting the ground (even though it's like 6cm away from the ground).

A version 2 would be nice, right? I'm working on it. Good luck with your tourney, dude!

If you're trying to build standard...

Read through this thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11591.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=11591.0)

Take a look at the showcases of 123SaveTheWhales, Pwnator, The Ounce, Naryar, Ty4er, madman3, craaig, 090901, yoda, Mr AwesomeSauce and myself, as some examples. Get what inspiration you can from those as a start, use it to develop your own style.

For a varied AI pack, download Nar AI 2.7 from this thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=1786.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=1786.0)
For a challenging one, download 123 AI from this thread: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=5556.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=5556.0)
Follow the instructions in the respective threads and they should work fine. Any issues, don't be afraid to ask.
Enter some Standard tourneys if they come round, see how your bot fares nowadays since the NAR AI ones are fairly old now.

And if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to use Nar 2.7 (like add it to my AI collection), but some robots crash the game. Anything I need to make it stop? I'm starting to get the hang of it. Made a better clone of Last Rites (inspired from... Rob Collins? or whoever?). I would love to see all of them, but my brain is unable to comprehend what the hell a good robot is, and goes all out insane, making terrible robots and making everyone frustrated. Thank for the support. I'll try my best to make something USEFUL (if not KNOWN) for the sake of the guys on the forum (if not my buddies, looking at you helloface001).

also skin is lazy as hell

It's DSL-Standard, he doesn't need anything supporting the flywheels.
Keep the standard going TUR, it's nice to see. Like, seriously. SO nice.

I didn't mean for it to be realistic. I will try, though. Also, for the skin, I would like someone to do something cool for me, since I'm way to lazy to draw things on it.

The MW weight limit is 398.9 (Sometimes it glitches out and displays it as a MW at 390.0).

Oh, and make it more interesting too. The chassis would be more visually appealing if it wasn't just a box on wheels. Maybe you could try having chassis wedges on the front and sides.

New version of Hype 9

Couldn't make the armour for the motor.

And a new, random robot. For some reason, I accidentally made this with a failed chassis design.

I never put down newbies in showcases unless the newbie is being particularly stubborn in his incompetence/lack of foresight/stupidity.

And that isn't the case for you.

on hype 9 I think single DSL bars would be better.

on that VS... simplify that DSL bar setup, there's too much. Also the spikes go in any and every direction and are seemingly put randomly instead of following a clear thought. Fix that so they make more sense defensively and aesthetically.

Anyways, I'm sort of back on the forum. However, I'm having trouble with a bot idea. I think I may need help over skype, if that's possible. If you have a suggestion for me so I can start off easy and a good looking bot, I'd appreciate it!

DP So I made a lightweight for Battlebots X...
SORRY,SORRY,SORRY! :embarr
It preforms "okay", but the weapons fly off once in a while. The armour is 1plast, motors for wheels are slimbacks, weapon is TWYC (not drive, the double one, I guess...), has 5-6 batts (ants). blue control board,

1mm plastic is very weak, and you can easily get away with 3/4 ants. I don't think the TWM2 is worth it, a normal one should be enough, and is the disk really needed? You could use the weight for much better things (armour, weapons or more aesthetics). I'd try and get the width of the chassis the same as the top of the wedge aswell, but it looks pretty decent

The original TWM motor is too slow. I'll try with the batts+armour. I'll take out the disk (was inspired from one of Redace's robots. Another disk was supposed to be on top). If I do that to the chassis, it will waste space and gain weight, but I'll try. I'll see what I can do.

this is a bad mindset for building irl bots, looks > efficiency

1.Should I take out the bottom wedge
2.I have nothing else in mind. Something I can at least use.

Okay, I took it off. Right now, I'm thinking if I should go for Battlebots, as I cannot think of any other bots I can make. (I want too make some, but in the end, they look and work crappy). I can't seem to get inspiration around here.

Lurk around some showcases until you find some ideas, and pile them together into some bots. The main thing (imo) for irl bots is to make them look cool and fairly different.

That last bot just looks plain and boring now, i feel it'd look better with external wheels and a smaller bar

I'm not sure. I may as well drop the robot until I'm comfortable with building again. I don't know, I'm for some reason out of the mood "again." I'll see what I can do.

Think of a type of bot you don't see built much and try to build one, see how it goes, even just as an experiment. Those types of Bar HS are everywhere.

I guess. I will enter it a light weight, I'll see what I can make for a middle.

I got a Middle weight!

However, since Battlebox has a high ground before the robots fight...
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/17258Help T-T.png)
It starts to tilt over, the blade then twist the robot... What should I do?

Is battlebox 3.0 better? Like are the robots closer to the ground?
And Naryar, what do you mean by... "Stabilizers"?
Also, thanks guys.  :gawe:

There's a way to keep that from happening. Just lower the range value in your AI bindings.
Title: Re: The Unknown Robotic's DSL Showcase
Post by: cephalopod on March 20, 2015, 02:33:17 PM
Are you spinning the weapon before the bot hits the ground?

And by stabilizers he literally means stabilizers. Things that stick out to stabilize the bot.

Range value, hm? Okay, I'll see what I can do.

@Craaig, no. As soon as the match starts, I then press the spin button (just like how AI would do it). BTW, the stabilizers. If range doesn't doesn't work, may have to do the stabilizers.
Title: Re: The Unknown Robotic's DSL Showcase
Post by: cephalopod on March 20, 2015, 02:38:31 PM
Yeah you need to stop the bot spinning the weapon just until the bot hits the ground by lowering the range at which it'll start spinning the blade ('Range').

Probably because this is one of my best looking bots (behind Chrono Basho V2). Thanks man!

BTW, the range is set to 30, and is working okay . If anything else happens, I'll try and get MassimoV if he notices the robot going crazy, and set the range lower once I give him them

Any robots with a good idea of wheel guards?

Do the 'supports' actually connect to anything static? I'm guessing those discs spin, so the supports aren't supporting the axle.

So I have to restart with the supports, then? Oh god... I'll see what I can do. Any idea on how I could make my Wheel guards?

I think it is kinda worse with those supports. They're just going around the belt. Wheel guards don't look too pretty either. I think you can sacrifice those to work on the supports more. In fact, why not try having the supports work in a fashion to where it looks fully supported to where it works. It might take a bit of eFFeing, but It might look better. Look at my bot, Roboenza, and work from there.

BTW, what's eFFeing?

http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm#effe (http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/ra2techs.htm#effe)

in that situation I think RedAce is confusing eFFe with Axle Loading. Axle Loading in DSL is really simple, just put a copal on your motor and do the thing.

Thx guys. However, I seriously feel like dropping this out of the tourney. One, I'm still raging at the multi-extender, and two, I feel like moving on from it, and three, I just lost inspiration for a Last-Rites type of robot, and lastly, I'm too lazy. Maybe a middleweight version of Sherry I could create, IDK. I also am not a fan for SH anyway. I don't know if these are good reasons, but it's whatever.

(I might use those glitches for future robots. Maybe one soon).

It seems to be quite heavy for how little weaponry etc it has. What weapon motor is that?
The chassis could probably be a lot smaller, especially if you're just going to make it dull and black and not do much with it skin-wise. What are those claws mounted on as well?

1. Yeah, I was surprised too.
2.The motor is TWM the second one (not drive)
3.I also planned on shrinking the Chassis (Lol at skin)
4.The claws used a motor (forgot the name, but it's not green)
Thx for feedback.
