Title: The Collins DSL Showcase
Post by: Probably Rob on October 28, 2012, 02:22:48 PM
Damn, I've made a Showcase...

Anyway, I'll probably rarely showcase robots, so here are two random lightweight ones for now.

This was the robot I forgot to enter as November's BOTM - I can't remember if cheatbot2 components were allowed or not though.

Impavid (225.3kg):

Here's something very odd, this robot was based on my bathroom bin lid.

Sovereign (248.7kg):

A robot I for some reason quite liked at the time - and still do. Will later appear in series 2 of ze MPire. Useless Trivia: It can do wheelies.

i was mostly critiquing on efficiency for that since it was stock, and a plain ole wedge with a giganto chassis isnt exactly the most efficient.....

When I said "rarely", I didn't mean this "frequently".

SKBT said this:

I was talking to MikeNCR on FB and then this idea happened. This is just a quick sketchup sketch to get the idea out.

I'm thinking 30lb pneumatic front hinged launcher.

HF drill drive 3" wheels, low pressure, maybe 2.5" bore ram cause I have one lying around.

An hour after he said it, I saw it and decided to actually make it - I'm gonna finally show it off because, why not?

You can get rid of the three battlepacks in the middle, maybe add an ant instead if you need it.
I'm not sure if you could get it down to a MW so just beef up the armour.

Yes, it's overpowered.

and this is a HW ? it could be downgraded to a MW without any problem.

My current, but will be former, entry for the Iron Apocalypse tournament.

There are a couple of reasons why I'm replacing this robot for the tournament (if it's still alive). Obviously there're cheatbot2 parts here, but the entry robot had a different motor and axe obviously. Because it's going to be replaced, here it is for the showcase!

I do like the T connecter "counterweight". There's not any bots I can think of that have that design, it's a nice little touch that is often overlooked. Not too sure about the chassis shape, it looks a bit too angular and smashable.

Not too sure about the chassis shape, it looks a bit too angular and smashable.

maybe go with a dsl bar "wedge" on the front and a medium beater bar counterweight and see how that looks.

You know the Ruiner bar end's collision mesh is rotated 90 degrees right? So it's probably touching the ground and ruining your ability to damage things.

Also it looks more like a lawnmower than an insect IMO XD

edit: Why the pointless Co2 tank?

HAH, brilliant. I honestly have no idea, I think it's because I was originally gonna give it a self-righter, but went with the long pole, thus forgetting to remove it.

edit: GRAAAH OMNIEXTENDERS ARE EVIL

I had a slight obsession with using them in late-2012, which is why there may be a lot during the MPire series 2, hah. Luckily, I rarely use them now.

My BattleBots 6 entries.

The weakest of the entries, and the middleweight, Virus:

The heavyweight, Quietus:

This is the, and my first, super seavyweight, but Mass' thinks it's a heavyweight. According to the DSL uploader, it's 800+ to 2000+ weight limit, this is 811+, so this IS a SHW, right? Sanzen:

BREAKING NEWS

BattleBots 6 middleweight entrant, Virus deemed "irreparable" following a test battle, on Saturday evening; a replacement has been made.

After what the team were thinking of as "a laugh", they came to the conclusion that a battle between a flipper and a spinner, was not the smartest idea they've come up with.

Virus, the flipper, was ripped to shreds by its heavyweight counterpart, Quietus, when it apparently went "out of control". The damage is so severe, the robot can not be repaired in time for its scheduled upcoming BattleBots 6 participation. However, the team have successfully found a replacement, following a fresh clean-up of an old; now new, former prototype, Clerisy:

Antweight: Abandoned

The robot was found underneath a snooker table, wrapped up in blankets within a box. Totally not stealing Lister's life story. Luckily, the person that found the robot was a roboteer - coincidence! It was such a mess, and the person had no money, he decided to find random bits of metal in a junkyard and put it back together. Thus, Abandoned was [re]born!

What's extraordinary, is that this was the second time a robot had been found - by the same person. The roboteer went to a car boot sale, but was disappointed in the lack of robotic parts. Just when he thought it was a waste of time, he noticed a ripped flag sticking out of a bin on the other side of various sellers' tables.

Curious, he walked over to it and looked inside the bin, to find a broken, lonely robot. He tipped the bin over and dragged the robot out, which had a pretty big hole in the back of it along with various puncture marks on one of the sides.

He took the robot home and desperately tried to rebuild it, with the leftover metal he had at the time, and thus... Abandoned Sr. was [re]born!

I can kinda see why there's "uproar" with the robot having stock parts, but what's the problem with using the cheat parts? They're not custom, so it's legal for a DSL showcase - right?

You really shouldn't do it because stock components are hilariously weak compared to their DSL counterparts. It's basically a "why would you want to" type of situation.

actually  I have nothing against you posting half-DSL half-Stock bots, I'd just prefer if you added them in your custom showcase.

I do believe you need a 'whip': binding entry like in Whipper.py but I may be mistaken.

also you'd better pick a motor that has limited rotation axles, or mod the npc so that it has. This one is gonna cut your bot in two, hence not realistic.

the theory is that the floor will stop the hammer from cutting the bot in two when it swings forward and then backwards, so that shouldn't be a problem.

nobody would expose their motor that much in real life, it would get smacked off by any good HS in a matter of seconds.

the shiny black extenders do look kind of cool though.

A bit generic, but I just needed an excuse to use the DSL 3 burst in 2: Hour of Origins.

Is it gonna be a Jupiter? Nope.

Is it gonna be a birdcage? Yep.

Alright. I made an updated version of Dredg (the Helloface and BattleBots entry) for a possible BattleBots 8 entry, but unfortunately, this version in its first match made T-Minus and Hypno-Disc havok, so it may be a short lived version. If it keeps havoking during testing, I'll have to use my other updated Dredg.

It hasn't been skinned, so just pretend the shell was taken off, and its metal platings, or whatever, are shown.

Also, cheers Lemon'.

Title: Re: The Collins DSL Showcase

My BattleBots 8 team is finished. They all use the same chassis, because... yeah.

Lightweight: Nest.

Middleweight: StrAtA.

Heavyweight: Dredg.

On an uninteresting note, these are, and will be, the only builds of Dredg, unlike the Jupiter series.

Finally, I am here, with 1000 posts, and finally... a Super Heavyweight!

And for this special occasion, I will now showcase 5 robots for your viewing pleasure. I apologize.

These were made last night, but we'll start off with one that was made earlier.

The super heavyweight version of the robot that seems to never change: Big Eight.

Here is a "dragon" that flips things, but I sort of made it terribly, because I am terrible: Naeu.

Don't worry, this isn't a Jupiter robot. I decided to make it bigger, and give it a new weapon... it's still not a Jupiter: Sacrosanct.

The final two were, somewhat experiments. This one was changed a few times before it became this: Chorus.

And the last experiment turned into a little something like this: Vierco.

Just because of the shape of the flipper I can see it being one of those robots that shows up on Robot Wars every season and is known as something like the "Hoover Scoop" or something. It's got some charm like that. :gawe:

The original intention was for it to actually be a flipper, similar to Raging Knightmare, but space was limited. I found my brain, and changed the wheel motors: False.

Thank you, Nar'

And now, for some big news. Some exciting yet nervous news.

Robot Wars has recently revived, as some if not all, of you know. In Heat A, there was a robot named Nuts, entered by Team Nuts. I have recently come into contact with Alex of that same team, thanks to Craaig.

The Solution:

On the 27th of August, 2012, this was the first robot I ever built in Robot Arena 2: DSL 2. It wasn't originally supposed to
. It was a pretty dumb first build, but somehow I liked it.

The Solution 2:

Then came its successor, which became powerful, and more self-right ease. It's actually shocked me by
, when I didn't think it was even capable of doing such a thing. While slightly slower than its first incarnation, it became so powerful, that it could flip itself.

The Solution 3:

And now, in its third version, I am so excited, that this robot is being made into an antweight. An actual robot combat antweight. One that can participate in REAL events. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of Craaig, thank you, and thank you to Alex of Team Nuts, for the birth... of The Solution 3's real life antweight counterpart.

Thank you to everyone who has seen, watched, participated, liked, hated, anything I've done. I really do appreciate you all. And after all of these years...

I will officially be, a new roboteer.

Welp, since everyone is showing their Sword of Glory entrants, I shall do the same since it's only fair.
Note: the ones I'm showing are the ones previously not already showcased.

Silent Melody:

The lightweight underblader. Its motor is very silent, but very dea-lody. Based on RedAce's Agony. His well-being, that is, not his robot

Burnt Airwaves:

The third addition to the Airwaves launcher lineage, this time in the form of a middleweight version. It won't be the third official addition, but a middleweight spin-off, or launch-off, depending on how well you laughed. You didn't...

Cheap Surgery 4:

Okay, it's technically a re-entry, however, it's also technically an upgraded entry. From middleweight to heavyweight, more power behind the motor, this was certainly not a cheap rebuild

Roders 2:

The robot here is a 5-minute ago upgrade, which unfortunately is way too late to use in the tournament. I didn't have the idea to add the self-right-assist bars until after sign-ups was open. Ah well, here's hoping the assist bar-less version does decent

Was speaking to my Australian buddy earlier, and showed him some builds, including some WIPs, along with other peoples' builds.

Asked him what the biggest coin of Australia was. Apparently 50 cents, but the robot was an extra 2-sides, so unfortunately had to go with the second biggest. Currently it has a name, but it can have many. It's pretty much down to you to decide for yourself what it's called.

Unfortunately, the length has to remain like that for self-right ease. I did however just now finish another upgrade, with slower servo for precision, but since it looks exactly the same, no point in showing. Please believe meee!

I thought I showed this robot, but apparently not. Whoops. This was made before my computer screwed up.

A few weeks, or couple months ago, the Disacordians discussed how bad astros were, as someone mentioned it was impossible to do 6-wheel astros for a lightweight or how they would be bad... until I arrived. Just in time for BittyBots.

Thank you for your vote, and having The 2nd Chance become the 2016 IRL Tournament of the Year, and thank you for voting me into being an Advanced User with Dragonsteincole, you select lovable bastards.

Tortoise here, is a legal IRL heavyweight ready and wired for tournaments. You have my permission, if you ever wish to enter it. It's pretty powerful, and can be edited.

Hello.

Today I bring to you two clones. Clones of what, I wonder? Let's find out. Come with me, we're in this together.

The first is a clone of an alleged 2nd Chance entry. Seiffra 2:

The second is a clone of a robot that had a good first version, which the creator then murdered with his own two cocks. What a demon. This one is a 360-degree axer. I might change the name, but it's currently Pearl Degree 3:

Welp, it got surprisingly far in the Colosseum, when it wasn't really supposed to. It was doubted, it was brushed away... but there ain't no stoppin' this toy. It was my first ever framebot, so I might as well show it. This is...

Do you like animals? The arena is like a zoo, in a way. And the zoo is like an arena, in a way. But what happens when you take out a fish and throw it into the arena, it gets in the way.

It’s a real nice build, but those front wheels are all sorts of screwed with how exposed they are and how narrow the clamping zone is.
