Title: That Robot is a Spy's DSL Showcase
Post by: That Robot is a Spy! on December 04, 2010, 05:33:03 PM
My 32 iron shell spinner. It spins rather slowly though.

Tommorow, I promise.
It's an E-Tek Motor. TWNWR's (I think that's how you spell it) and micros.
4 odysseus and 2 ants.

Fit a 6-mag or Dual Perm in there. I recommend 6-mag, because they spin up faster, and when going up against a 6WD bot, that makes all the difference.

You don't know what you are talking about !

Oh, and irons are bad overall on shell spinners.

Yeah, go for Razors.

Only needs 3 ants, then get a 6-mag and NPC's on Hypno's. ALSO MOAR FLAIL RAZORZ

4 ants. You would want your motor to spin at full power now that there are more bots that can take it on head-on.

Add flail razors by putting hinges on the sides, then adding razors on them.

And don't listen to FOTEPX.

Diamond Cutter uses a 6-mag. Your statement is invalid.

Code: [Select]
name = 6 Mag Gearbox
preview = twm_preview.bmp
dir = TWMmotors
model = TWM3R6.gmf
type = mechanics
base = SpinMotor
master = motor
passthru = axle_collision
description = This is based off of the gearbox from the robot Tornado Mer, but mounts SIX 3" magmotors to one shaft.  The second most powerful option available to spin your weapon, but draws 144 amps.
power = 245 35
attaching = axle
elecMaxInOutRate = -1440
motorsound = sounds\bigmotor_loop.wav
attachsound = sounds\cmp_generic.wav
standard = 1
mass = 116

Code: [Select]
name = Dual-Perm 132 Gearbox
preview = dperm_preview.bmp
dir = perm
model = dualperm.gmf
type = mechanics
base = SpinMotor
master = motor
styles = Default
passthru = axle_collision
attaching = axle
description = As if one Perm 132 isn't powerful enough, this mother of all weapon motors will probably have more than enough power for whatever nefarious uses you can think of with an incredible 68 torque - it can't reach as much RPMs as the 4-Mag and 6-Mag however, having 200 maxspeed like a normal perm. It's extremely heavy though, and only of use in such bots. It has 11000 hitpoints and 300 fracture !
power = 200 68
elecMaxInOutRate = -3094
sort = 10
fracture = 300
motorsound = sounds\motorloop2.wav
attachsound = sounds\cmp_generic.wav

hitpoints = 11000

Looks like Dual Perm is better.

(I used the NAR AI Dual Perm because I didn't feel like decompiling the Components .CFZ file.)

Even though, the DSL 2.1 Dual Perm has more torque than the DSL 2.1 6-Mag. What it has less is maxspeed, but it doesn't matters more.

And you guys WILL stop spamming or i might start to remove posts...

Drop it to 2WD (NPC/NPCFs + Hypnos would be faster and lighter than that). That will give you weight for more stuff.

You could have the NPC's hanging out of the chassis if you need to. Shift the batts around, that'll make more space for them.

Try getting 4 ants on there and get rid of the inside razors

Perhaps try getting some beater bars on there (downgrade the armour?)

Is also ghey and try to build something proper next time :P

1st Point: Wilco.
2nd Point: It's already 1mm Plastic
3rd Point: It's not that bad combat wise, can wreck a lot of bots.

Is there a way to counter act the bisection without putting the bar on top? It goes through the little line under the belt.
And I'll probably give it a name to suit the claws to make it a bit more IRL. At the moment, it's called Pestilence.

Doesn't look too bad. I still reckon 8 Weapons of a Lightning Spike's size is a bit much for an IRL Sheck Spinner. If you had 8 smaller weapons, such as Light DS Teeth, perhaps arranged in a staggered pattern, I think that would look better. It gives you a taller face to hit the opponent with, and gives you a greater distance between teeth on the same level, so you can get better hits in.

Yes, although the point of my advice was to make it look more realistic. IRL building is more about aesthetics than efficiency. Otherwise everyone would just build a wall of razors. If you manage to make it look cool, then that's a big plus. =)

but walls of razors are not IRL building.

And IRL is about building real-life-worthy bots in RA2. That you care more about efficiency or looks while staying realistic is a personal choice.

Off-topic: Cropping fail there. Just move the weight/name under the bot picture to make a nice rectangle.

You don't tend to see thin plastic skirts sticking out of the tops of IRL SSs, try a round extender.

Too much weight is being used on slow drive at the moment. Perhaps use hollow discs instead, and try to get NPCFs and Hypnos. If you attached the discs directly to a shorter DSL bar, then that would save you almost 10kg you could use on drive and batteries. At a stretch, lose a few razors on the edge that isn't leading when it spins.

Hypnos wouldn't make it invertible. I'll give it a shot though. Current version just about is invertible
If you attached the discs directly to a shorter DSL bar, then that would save you almost 10kg you could use on drive and batteries.
The bar doesn't have an attachment point suited to that function, except in the middle.
Title: Re: That Robot is a Spy's DSL Showcase
Post by: NFX on December 03, 2011, 05:32:07 PM
Okay, first of all, mount the ME lower down in the chassis, so that it would still be invertible. Secondly, while you're selecting the 100cm Disc in the Components tab, just select an attachment point on the outer edge of the disc. That'll allow you to attach it directly to the DSL Bar the way you're wanting.

Move one of the flails in the middle

See if you can get rid of the bars and get techno's somehow.

Was thinking this, will experiment.
See if you can get rid of the bars and get techno's somehow.
Probably wont be happening as the disc will intersect with the wheels.

well axle load the wheels then

If you REALLY have no weight, get 3wd fast npc's inside the chassis with technos.

Looking better. I wouldn't go for Technos, personally, I think it looks fast enough as it is, given that they're NPC Fasts. Plus they would take up more space, and mess up the balance you have at the minute. What I might do, is move one of the sideways-facing axles on each discs to the currently vacant central outward-facing space. When you spin around, some of the weaponry is going to be facing backwards, depending on what direction you're spinning.

oh yea they're already fasts.

nvm then

Yes, try and get the disks straight on the ME which might need some axle loading.

I don't think he can get the discs directly onto the ME, because of where the drive motors are positioned.

Very much so, yes. I can't see too much in the way of improving it, other than perhaps using Flipper Segments in place of DSL Bars and improving the chassis armour. It's quite exposed, so it'll take come punishment if an opponent gets to it. But they have to get past your flailing razors defenses first.

There's a good chance that the disc will intersect with the wheel.

I was thinking this in my first stage, but because of the hitpoints of the FS, I opted out. Might try it though.

It doesn't matter if it's touching the wheel it's if it touches the drive motors which NFX said, i don't think it does tbh.

Lose 8 razors and you can have 4wd techno. Which would probably make it better at sweeping wedges, but less weapon weight would not help as much against other bot types.

Sabotage (last showcased bot) should be my heavyweight for my Nar AI team.
In the meantime, here's my AW, Disruption.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/66675ant nar ai.JPG)
2 Copal and Rubbers, Piglet on a DSL Disc, 4 Typhoons, 2 ants, Plastic 1.

The chassis can be trimmed down, Use a ME instead of that Baseanchor and maybe use a hex plate to resolve any Realistic issues (battries, CB)

It's realistic as it is and it's aggravating turning my ME the right way

Here's my BW:

Aluminium 3 (not DSA)

use a drum instead and get razors or something on, that's pretty bad.

It needs another ant and way more drive.
and that wedge isn't doing much, you're either going against wedgeless bots or gonna get outwedged, get a metal hinge on there.
oh and get tite 1/plastic 3 on there, should be good enough.

wat

copals aren't enough. you can still get more weapons on there aswell by switching to either a drum or a hexplate.

on the beetleweight you need to cut down on chassis space  and put a metal skirt hinge on there instead of the current wedge sytem.

Save the weight, use a extra small multi extender and move it to the top of the chassis.

With the weight saved, perhaps put a skirt hinge on the front.

if you like narmour :P

It's been a while.

That's just a prototype, NPC Fasts send it flying, and the wedge needs work. Could also trim it down a little bit more too. Anything else need work?

Use another wedge design. Hell, get a static wedge if you have to.

Needs less drive and more weaponry. Unless you want to make it a speedy anti-popup VS (IE S Cargo) but I dunno if that's effective anymore, been out of the standard loop for ages...

Smaller chassis = Less weight & lower disc. When you do that, you also shouldn't use MEs outside the chassis.
