Title: superbomb122's DSL Showcase (finally)
Post by: superbomb122 on October 28, 2018, 09:58:27 AM
I made a HW hammer spinner named Kinetic Energy Generator (K.E.G.) Planning on putting this in OW3 if I don't make anything better.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
It still has some weight left, so I might try to make wheel guards or front armor for it.

I love the extenderwork on the bar, it looks absolutely beautiful, and I'm a sucker for that kind of wedge design as well. What's powering the bar? Dual Perm?

4-mag. It works surprisingly well, but I might have the ability to upgrade to 6-mag if need be.

Yeah, I'd recommend 6-mag, I don't think 4-mag is gonna be enough for such a large, heavy-looking bar.

Seconded, also gonna suggest some for of better wheel protection.

Jeez, this showcase is dead. I'll fix it now.

Phantom, my current favorite build. It's entered a ton of random tourneys including Orc's Wars and PWS.

Jeez I can see the dust around here

Shockwave is here and totally unoriginal (like anything in RA2 is anymore)
Also yada yada it's cool or something And it's a little uneven (probably shouldn't have done a head-on shot but oh well).

Looks cool. It's pretty clean. I also like the disc, wedgelets, supports, and wheelguards. I think my only suggestion is making the name more readable, as it is kinda hard to read it with it's current color

This is about the most compact bot I've made so far, and I'm happy with how it came out (plus I needed to distract from Redalert's bs)

It's got large beaters. You can just see where they meet the extenders.

They are all cool. Honestly, I'd say your extenderwork skill is better than me and like that of Neon. In fact, I love your Neon inspired build style honestly

Edit: Also forgot to say, but honestly Nature's Defender as CW was made in similar circumstance as Alloy, as I also intended that bot to be a HW, but surprised the weight didn't fill up that much, so I decided to make it a CW (I use Alu5 though)

After Twisted Fate's... er... predictable performance, I gave it a complete overhaul to try and fix the problems I was having. First and foremost, it has a srimech now. Also added were better armor along the sides, better wedgelets, and a more stable base to prevent it from flipping over. Some looks were sacrificed, but if this wins fights, I'll be happy nonetheless. Overall, certainly buffed for combat.

Yep, made an overhead because originality. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, especially the bar. Plastic 10 armor, NPCF drive, and it is invertible, albeit with less power in the weapon..

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

This is Drums on the Wheel, my first real attempt at a competent extender bot. Dare I say, it came out damn well. 2 NPCF motors for drive, 2 flats for weapon, 2 battlepacks+2 ants for battery, and the top and bottom panels are all steel. The name, while it sounds extremely weird, does have an origin behind it, specifically it's the song I was listening to while making this. Probably sh** in combat, but now y'all can't say I can't make extenderbots, so uhh... yeah. Take that, random person.

Let's get ready to RUMBLEEEEE!!!!
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Viking Warrior, a bot based on Danish fighter Mikkel Kessler (AKA Viking Warrior) as well as his cool as **** entrance theme. Built for Orc's new thing. Weapon is 2 iron fists on medium pistons. It has 2 battlepacks for power, a large tank and 2 medium tanks for air, and 2 NPC Fasts for drive. It ended up looking like an experimental China bot, but I'm ok with that. Unlike Kessler, this is utter sh** at fighting, but I don't think you guys expect my bots to do well in combat as is.

Behold! A SHW! This is Grim Rapier, my first foray into the hellscape that is weightclasses above HW. I've gotta say, I'm really happy with how it came out. If it's hard to tell, the weapon is a poker on a free hinge, emulating Bale Spear's setup. Also included are 6WD NPC Fasts, plenty of batts, and Alu10 armor. With the name, weapon and astrological symbol on the skin (trust me it's just Aries), dick jokes are expected but not welcome. Feedback, however, is.

UPDATE: **** AGOD it's a flamer now

Did some more stuff

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
First, I made Twisted Fate legal under the 2020 ruleset. Not much exciting to talk about here. Dropped the flats to TWMRs, gave it less teeth, made the wedge better, and gave it an absurd amount of battery life with the remaining weight.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
This is Cross Check, a 6WD top hinge lifter thing. It has next to no OOTA potential, but it's pretty durable and has enough power to bully around most opponents. It alo has hockey sticks because who doesn't love sportsball? Also really happy with the wheelguards I shamelessly stole from Doot. Just generally feeling really good with how this came out

Thanks!

The jaws themselves aren't hinged, but the entire assembly including the piston/flamer is, so it's still functional as a controlbot. As far as weapons go, I might try to get some in and remove some of the bits I added after removing the piston, but optimizing a SHW has been pretty low on my to-do list as of late. Only made Grim Rapier for a Discord tourney because no one else is going to be recording SHWs anytime soon.

All good things...

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Phantom 5. I've revamped this for Orc's Wars after all other versions either failed in combat or became illegal for 2020 rules. It's now got 6 large beaters, better wedge capabilities, and (hopefully) a more reliable srimech. All of this, as well as replacing flats with TWM3Rs, led to a massive reduction in speed, from 4 NPC Fasts to just 2 NPC Fasts and 2 Slimbodies. Orc's Wars will probably end up being the last tournament for this, as I've started to believe that Phantom's design would more than likely be impossible to make to any sort of decent standard IRL on account of being just so big. It's also proven boring in AI, and the aftermath of its PWS6 run still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, I do hope this iteration will finally do justice for the Phantom lineage by getting good results in OW5. Or it crashes and burns. Who knows.

This is Magnolia, an overhead built off F1Krazy's chassis for the chassis swap thing. Coincidentally, it's my first build in the new crash pack. Came out pretty well for an overhead, all things considered, though the white chassis made a different style of splash necessary. Drive is slow as sh**, the weapon is only a 4-mag bc the chassis was just too small for a 6-mag, but the great chassis armor should help make up for the lack of power. At least I'd hope.

in HS's you generally want more weight invested into the weapon motor rather than more chassis armor because "your weapon is your armor", aka it punts the opponent away. though sometimes a heavily armored HS is nice.

Bot dump incoming

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
First up is Starfall, my take on a nightmare clone, with a metal-inspired name. It came out a bit too narrow to work all that great, but the weapon is damn good when it actually gets into play. Plus, it's a different style of build for me, and I personally think it looks really cool. Maybe I'll try to widen the front in the future to get it working like the real Nightmare.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Firebrand, the resut of me cloning ICEwave in my infinite originality, but I gave it a flamethrower out the front wedge because that wouldn't cause the thing to blow up if it took damage no sir. Weapon is underpowered just like any overhead using a motor short of a ****ing 6-mag, but it looks cool as heck and can dish out some good hits.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Finally, Dead Man's Hand, my take on Aces & Eights had Battlebots 6.0 happened for Orc's 2004 Robot Combat tourney. The biggest change is obviously the tiny as **** drum that was all the rage to add to a featureless wedge back in the early 2000s. Overall I'm really happy with how it came out, especially with the black plates the real Aces & Eights had.

Another bot dump because I have a lot of unfinished bots
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
First up, the classic 4WD vert of Battlebots' original run, Village Idiot. Based it on the real plans for Village Idiot before Season 6.0 got cancelled, featuring dual flywheels, a bit more of a frame going on in this version. It has no hinged wedge, though, so don't expect any stunning performances. After all, it is an idiot.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Oh god oh **** oh n-

For Pokken Tournament (build for it please), I created Hoppip. It was only natural that it'd be an overhead spinner, with its propeller leaves and all. The most interesting things to mention are the face, which I'm extremely proud of because it actually uses colors from Hoppip's official art, and the dual-perm I shoved int it to power the spinner. Yep. Hoppip ain't ****ing around.

[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Finally, an original bot, Pressure Point. This was originally going to be an Apocalypse clone, but due to RA2's sh**ty burst limits and negative feedback, I ditched the side hammers and went full axe. In testing, it's surprisingly fun to drive and extremely stable. Got the skin finished today, and I'm really happy with how that came out as well.

Ohhh sh** Orc's Wars is back and I'm in it!

Moving counter-clockwise from the top left, we have:
Phantom 5 (seed)- Back for one last ride, the only change I've made is a slight update of the teeth to make the drum look like it gets more bite. Despite it being my seed, I have the least faith in Phantom to really live up to expectations.
Foo Fighter (lock-in)- I showcased his in the Botober thread, but never on here. In short, it's a Crossfire clone with the supports mounted on an axle to allow it to get to its wheels more easily. In testing, it's actually been a lot more powerful tan I'd expected, so I'm hoping it gets a couple wins in the tourney.
Twisted Fate 2 (qualifiers)- This is a pretty old build, but I've been waiting a long time to finally give this version of Twisted Fate a tournament debut (I know it entered MM3 but I'm not sure if that tourney's ever happening now). I have high hopes for it, so it'll probably fail spectacularly to get out of qualifiers. That seems typical.
Machina Non Grata (reserve)- Another pretty old build, and probably unable to score KO's, but I've got a bit of a soft spot for this bot and it was easy enough for me to AI. Made some cosmetic improvements to the sides with ll the weight the crash patch gave me to work with, so it'll at least look cool as it gets torn to shreds.

You thought I'd let my showcase slip to page 2? False!

For GTM Civil War, I was brainwashed into becoming a horrible, evil villain. Disgusting. Thankfully, I'd been meaning to make another LoL bot based on Xerath, so after a couple failed attempts, I came up with this. 6-mag for the weapon is a bit underpowered, but it's worked decently in testing. End of the day, I probably won't have the best-performing bot on my team, but it absolutely shouldn't be the worst-looking.

Oh, also I made an even more evil bot just in case someone dips

Bot dump time

This is Black Lotus, an HS I built to get back into the swing of things with RA2... well, 4 months ago. Recently went back in, gave it a blade that isn't anemic, cleaned up the rear, and gave it a CW and HW version. Not expecting it to do well in tournaments, but it's hard for me to make a tombclone I don't find either pathetic or oversized so I'll take this as a W.

Next up is Parapet, which I built as a reserve for Matthews' Major in the event that I couldn't find something better. I'm personally very happy with the crossbow on the top, but it of course would prolly never win a fight. Happy with the classis RW vibe for this though.

Finally, Dan challenged me to recreate an old CAD of an ARC bot I was given, so I relearned OBJ chassis importing and put this together. Finishing Move has arguably too much drive, very powerful weapon, but a very poor wedge and little armor. But damn is it cool.

Black Lotus may be a Tombclone but I love the bar, Parapet is such a unique build (Motte&Bailey would love it I think) and Finishing Move is really well done! You've made a good comeback and you've come a long way since you first started!

Been on a bit of a building kick lately, finished Halberd 2 for future tournament use. Shortened the axe for better contact, swapped to 6 wheel drive to have a lower profile, and swapped to a panel wedge. The end result is hopefully a better fighter, with a slightly more interesting shape.

So 3.5 years ago I made an awesome-looking crusher that never saw competition bc I couldn't fit the right amount of batteries to make it last 3 minutes. Today, I rebuilt it it from the ground up. Here's Dragon Khan Dynasty
