Sorrow's DSL Machines...In America!
« on: May 20, 2008, 05:19:55 PM »
Brownie points to whoever gets the reference.

Aaaaaaaanyway...

I got an idea after remembering something Christian Carlberg (Minion, Dreadnought, Overkill) said: Drivetrains win championships. I set out to create a fast bot whose speed and armor could make up for its weak weaponry. After several days of tweaking, I finally created a bot who can beat anything it gets under. Named after an RA2 legend, here is...

A better view:
http://img252.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot28ej7.png

Wicked fast and able to take quite a beating. The weapon's off-center, I know, but I worked so hard to get JUST the right weapon that I don't care.

Decide for yourself:

(Grog exited the arena).

And yes, it's a reference to Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series. Pure gold.

I'm well aware of her death. It's a tribute.

It's the Abridged Series. It makes fun of the show. Just look it up.

pretty nice. you could get rid the crazy heavy wheels though... upgrade batts. much easier to just use those orange batts (2 or 3) than all those lil ones

The wheels give awesome grip, so that's why I use them. As for the batteries...you're probably right.

I'm surprised you were able to beat Grog and Big Metal Friend.  That weapon motor looks like it would be a very juicy target for them.  Do you ever have problems with it falling off?

Also, I wouldn't call that "weak weaponry".  Two 70kg hammers is quite respectable, especially considering that bot's drive.

I don't, actually. They tend to ride up on the wedge and then get knocked skyward. She's fast enough to where they don't get an opportunity to whack the motor.

More brownie points for guessing the reference.
He's basically the bastard child of Inertial Deathlock and Blue Moon. He's quick, but his lack of invertibility is an issue.

I have a smaller version, a middleweight, that's invertible, but he can only run at full power for half a match. Near the end, he can barely move enough to avoid being counted out. Should I risk that and enter him in BBEANS? He can obliterate Lock Nut and Tempest.

Yes, you should send this bot to BBEANS.
At least if you are really hot, to lead the looser bracket and if you want to give me big hopes, to win at least against one of the bots in this tourney. Mwuahaha!

I've been on a big "disk as a chassis" kick recently, so here's my middleweight spinner and his sequel.

http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot77vn7.png
The only differences are that Impregnable has only two battlepacks, while I2 has that and two ant batteries. The weapons on I2 are weaker, though, as are the connectors holding the motors to the disk. Impregnable can barely last a match, and is just crawling by the end. I2, I think, can last much longer. Both are invertible, but vulnerable to pop-ups. Which is superior?

Nice designs.  Impregnable looks like an excellent balance between offense, defense, and control.  With the concept of balance in mind, I'd say I2 is superior, but it really depends on what bot you're fighting, and how quickly you can usually get KOs.

The End is just crazy.  That one is all offense--it must be even harder to control than Blue Moon.

He's zippy, but he's just so unstable. It's hard to fight for long.
But he's fun to mess around with, so it's a success for me.

Meet Harbinger, my first effective LW. Had an amusing clash with Jules last night, and fought evenly with the three machines he sent at me.
http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot120ci3.png
He does not break the Realistic Rule; the weapon passes above the internals.
Not invertible, but he bounces right back over if he's flipped.

Rematch: DOAM vs. Smitemare with Jules:

Both hammers on both bots got knocked off. It was damn close.

TWM3R?

You could make this way better by changing armor to titanium, building in a square chassis and removing batts.
