Somebody's DSL Showcase
« Reply #300 on: March 18, 2009, 08:20:56 PM »
It was just an idea. And no, it wasn't a very serious bot. About on par in seriousness with Ring Of Fire. It just popped into my head that nobody had ever built and shown a treaded popup (or 4WD treaded anything) before, and that it could be something new, which this forum has sorely lacked of for some time now.

A: Sorry for freaking out, I was really on edge this morning for some reason.G lad it wasn't a problem.
B: In Somebody's defense, there is nearly no way to make a realistic popup, and that did look like an intentional freak. However, besides SHWs, four tread drive isn't very useful. In general, steer away from it.

I think just saying "It's ugly" will suffice here.  Lay off the napalm everyone.

Also, if you imagine that bot with just one pair of treads, it would actually look pretty cool.  Perhaps give it 2WD E-tek drive with treads.

I tried that first, but I just couldn't get it to have the muscle to get under Sheck spinners and other HSs.

Inf is back <3

but ya DSL has gotten horrible. Sure some bots are realistic but honestly, would never happer in real life and thats what DSL should be all about. Being able to be built in REAL LIFE.

This is Firecracker Jellybean 1. It works fine, and spins well with no havoking/problems/etc. But it has the same drive issues as Iron Spaghetti

This is Firecracker Jellybean 2. It doesn't work fine. It can sort of drive in a straight line, just whenever I tell it to turn in the direction that the shell is turning it havoks uncontrollably. I had another Firecracker Jellybean 2, with no wedge, and 6 flail irons, but I added the wedge to try to get it to stop havoking, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Both have TWM3R2s for weapon power, and the second smallest drive motors (can't remember the name).

Bots with a too-light chassis will occasionally explode.  You usually encounter this problem with AW's.  I'm not sure if that's what's going on here, but if it is, you can fix it with a bigger chassis or heavier armor.

This is SnSnSnSnS
It stands for Sit n Spin n Spin n Spin n Spin

It has 6 30kg sledgehammers, on two Whyachi Tribars on 2 Perm 132s.
1 mm Titanium
6 ant batteries

It can beat any RAW bot, KOing all but GBBS and Destroyer, which were WBPs.

I just need to AI it.

You should get rid of these aluminium 20cm's attaching the e-teks and fit another ant batt.

Looks very nice, though perhaps a little helpless if flipped.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

@Naryar: Without them, it is not realistic

@Urjak: idk how, but it is able to kind of keep itself moving around when it is upside down. Not really controlled, so it is good in a closed arena.

I like this bot too.
with which kind of tactic/ai do you drive it ? like a whipper waiting for the enemy or do you try to engage battle ? Isn't it hard to move forward ?

It is actually a very mobile bot, but yes, I do fight it as a whipper waiting for the enemy to come towards it.

Some random battleshots

First: Firecracker Jellybean vs. Hammerhead Shark

Firecracker Jellybean is my Tag Team Tournament 2 bot (it is DSL LW right?)
It is also my probable BBEANS 6 bot, pending how it does in TTT2.

Also, some SnSnSnSnS battleshots

Never knocked both plows off before with another bot, especially in a 3 minute-match.

Spike Strip is a SHW top spinner that I have. I was driving it. Yes, that was a 3-minute WBP for SnSnSnSnS.

You can see in the pic what it is supposed to look like.

You killed a SHW with that? Either the SHW sucked or I'm very very dead.

The SHW falls below expectations, but doesn't suck. The wedges come off, and then it sucks.

Naryar posts, and says it sucks.

The SHW looked like a flipper as well.
