Title: Nicks Showcase Featuring Boxes with a Hammer
Post by: NickyDustyOwl on April 02, 2019, 09:02:10 PM
Hi All, its Nick here, builder of "Breaking Point". For now im showing of a bot Called "Ace 5". Im not really proud of this as it was rushed and not so good weaponry. It has Steel 3. Any constructive Criticism would be appreciated.   - Nick

So first, you should insert your attachments to your post rather than just making the pics like that. Also, I recommend you save your screenshots as png instead of bmp, and to drop it

As for the bot, the skin looks decent. However, one tip is you can scale your bot skin before making it to be two times the size. So you can have sizes like 512x512, and 1024x1024

Also, I recommend you use very small VDMA's for the hammer instead, as they are stronger. In addition, I think you can ditch some of the large air tanks to save weight for something better, like two wedgelets so your bot won't get wedged. Also, not sure with the second flamethrower behind the front one

The bot is pretty decent though. I like the Diesector concept

"One Way To Destruction" 2 Armed Flipper powered by large VDMA's. 8 Tornado wheels all powered by NPC Fast. It does struggle to flip bots.

Again, put your pictures on your post by pressing insert attachment after choosing what file to use in the attachment. It will make it easier and more pleasing to see the pictures.

As for the bot itself, the main problem with it is the flipper. The flipping arm should look like one cohesive arm than two thin different flipping arms. To fix it, you can make the arm thicker, as well as intersect the extenders on the arms with each other, then position both arms so they look like one arm than two different arms.

Also, skirt is considered illegal in IRL building most of the time, as IRL, they would bend when hitting or get hit by something. You can replace the skirts with wedgelets

And for the arms itself, also reduce the height on it. It looks a bit tall honestly. Make it so the arms are flush with the top of the chassis than the current one you have

This looks like it could flip mad patties at a burger joint. I've now decided I can't wait to watch robots make burgers and day dream about them getting mad and fighting.

This showcase is dead like my grandmother. anyway lets have look at my superheavyweight "Low Blow"
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Inspired By that one Pyramid bot M.O.E beat back in Season 4. 2 DSL 4 SledgeHammers on a DSL Bar powered by a 4 Mag Motor.

Here is a non IRL bot aka your worst nightmare "LockDown"
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]   [ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

A Vertical Spinner bot with 8 Typhoon Teeth powered by Etek Motors. Skirts to get under the bots to get a good hit. This actually was once a IRL bot so i Do plan on making it IRL Again

For low blow use typhoon teeth and make it a 6 mag or a dual perm, for lockdown use perm 132s and use extenders to form the weapon support

I'm kinda at a loss for how Low Blow is an SHW. Can we see a shot of the internals and can you tell us what chassis armour it has please?

I know you're aware that Lockdown isn't IRL, but it's also not DSL-S BTW because you've used CF to build it. Dunno if it was intended to be DSL-S but just thought I'd give you a heads up

Crop yo screenshots and save them as jpg or png.

Try to build to a weight limit (800 for hw or 1200 for shw)

you're going to get very little, if any feedback on an unrealistic dsl bot. you're better off sticking with IRL in dsl if you want feedback.

That floating tribar is odd and probably makes the robot fight worse. You're underweight, your wedge are easy to beat, you're disc wheels are wasting weight. More armor would be nice.

NOW is the time I need help.

So as you can see below I made a third version of breaking point
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
However, im not happy with it, the weapon spin up time is worst than ICEwave's, No Srimech (Though I do i have some top on the blade), Is nearly overweighted, and most of all, Bad motors.

I could make it bigger with weaker armor, but then thats not good.

So criticism is NEEDED for this one (God help us all)

Title: Re: Nicks Showcase Featuring Boxes with a Hammer
Post by: superbomb122 on July 14, 2019, 04:15:49 PM
The bar not only looks dreadful, but is also extremely ineffective as well. It's much better to do simple dsl bars as the weapon.

There are WAY too many batteries in there. Three battlepacks is enough for 5 motors.

Tbh you don't need 4 NPCs in an overhead. That's just a lot of weight in a bot that doesnt need to be particularly fast.

Shrink the chassis to tightly fit your components. The little bits out front do not help you.

For a srimech pole, place a square extender directly to the chassis below the weapon axle and run a round extender directly through the axle and go from there.

Use all the weight you have left on beefing up the armor and especially adding a steel plate to the front to make sure it can take more than 2 hits in a fight.

that's literally all kids/zoomers care about nowadays. the only saving grace is that they don't know how to build efficiently

the arms are better, but the 20cm before the teeth still gives it that spindly look

"10.     No weapon spam or stacking. I won’t limit parts but I will be clamping down on robots I think are pushing it. I won’t be as lenient this time" Granted, while this is in the 6 typhoon rule, it's a bit cheap and probably won't be accepted over other robots. Just so you know.

Aside from that...Bad Habit is probably my favourite of your 3 bots. Breaking Point looks good with the tribar supports but not a fan of the teeth setup. Really don't like the front of Ocram, you could give the robot a baseplate by taking off 2 of those ploughs at the front.

Its pretty overpowered for a cruiserweight, the disc is powered by a Tornado Mer Motor and can get up to 10,000 points in one (Of course in tournys points dont mean nothing, but it describes the damage it dishes out) I think it will do pretty well.

Please tell me that Bad Habit's drive motors aren't mounted directly to the polycarbonate side panels. If they are, then any horizontal spinner you face is going to tear half your drive off in about five hits.

So I went back and fixed and upgraded Breaking Point 2 (Even though there is already 3 )

PROBLEMS:
It had Titanium 1
the weapon was awful
random side panels
to many batteries
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

NEW WITH BP2:
Less Batteries
new paint job
steel side panels to armor it up
now has steel 1
New axe with fire
upgraded from BETA Burst motor to Medium VDMA
hinged wedgelets.

what do you guys think?

Id also skin in higher resolution (maybe 1024x1024 or 2048x2048), now resolution picking is a delicate thing tho

it ain’t irl because you’ve got no support for the disc beyond that steel plate to the axle: you can’t have spinners mounted from one point like that. Also those side arm things are incredibly thin.

I made some changes to Bored Again for DM5

-NPC Fast have been downgraded to just NPC Normals as I felt it was unnecessary for a 2 wheeled horizontal.
- L.E.D.S have been removed for weight distribution.
-FlatMotor replaced by Perm132
-Disc has been sized down
-Bottom panel covers the entire bottom

Those supports don't look like they actually support the weapon axle at all

You need the supports to actually touch the weapon axle. Yours don't extend far forward enough

Yeah I'd say you should fix those supports as well.  I was on the fence on that as well.

The Original version somehow is 2-0, dont understand how.
Anyways, Left one is "Gori" 394 KGs. Right One is "Washimi" 364 KGs.
Here is the old version as it appeared in Everything Is Too OP

Despite its good looks (Ironic since its named Lily), Its performance is questionable. Its not very tough since the body is mostly extenders and not Armor Plates, whenever it hits something it gets kicked up. Overrall im not very happy with it. Weighs 538.6KGs

I can see several areas for improvement, especially since you have 60kg left over. In order of priority:

  • Cover up those flatmotors, they don't look very IRL right now.
  • Upgrade that polycarb top panel to something stronger, otherwise you're going to get disemboweled by every axe/hammer in existence.
  • Remove the second wheel on each motor, and upgrade the motors to NPCs (Fasts, if you can). You should have the room to do so.
  • Replace all those ant batteries with two red motors. Again, you have more than enough room, and it'll save you a few extra kg.
As soon as I saw your reply, I knew you would help out. Thanks F1

Ive updated Aggressive Retsuko.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Now being a cruiserweight, she weighs in at 542KGs. Drive motors are 2 NPC Fasts, the weapon is a Mechavore disc powered by a flatmotor ( :puke:). I really like how it came it out, its performance might be sluggish, but its better than the original for sure.

Looks neat, I'd use a 12cm round extender to try to make an axle that connects the Weapon to both supports

On my spree of rebuilds, here is an updated Bad Habit
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Its now a SuperHeavyweight, TWMRs for drive (:puke: Will upgrade to NPC Fasts soon), about 200kgs are spent on counterweights too make the hammer not be slow (will also upgrade this too). I  mainly built it to try a unique design that I thought of, if I can, ill definitely try to get it down to a heavyweight.

Doing a bot dump (Are those bad or good?)

1. Extreme Deception Indicated
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
In terms of extender work, probably one of my best builds yet. Its good against most bot types, except it loses to Horizontal Spinners and struggles a bit on flippers. Overall, its great. Give your thoughts however
Oh, and 2 Red Batterys and 2 NPC Fast and 2 Flats.

2. Breaking Point Winter Edition
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
My months entry for botm, its been a bit revised since i entered however. The candy Cane srimech wasnt their and its now a heavyweight. I know it looks goofy and I apologize for that. The weapon struggles with reach a bit, it does fairly decent against a few selected heavyweights. but as per usual it doesnt win against anything  :(
4 Red Batterys 2 Npc fast 1 Perm132 motor.

3. King Cobra
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
The Spiritual Successor to my Back From The Dead Entry "Three Headed Snake", its mostly made out of extenders however, So its full potential is downgraded. Its a bit empty on the inside too. overall, im not happy with it, so leave your opinions below please  ;)

I spent a good two hours on this.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Ribbit, Eruption but its a mess and a front hinge
CW, 580 something
2 VDMAs (Front Hinge btw)
1 Tall battery (****)

I made bad mistake by making it all green btw.
Also it was originally suppose to be a rear hinge, but when I got done with the back part I realized it just wasnt going to work that way.
Wedge sucks too because I havent mastered that yet.
But its a start.

It looks good but sucks in battle, pulls a Dantomkia and the front gets up in the air. Going to try and tweak things out before New Blood shuts.

Nuclear Meltdown This was originally going to be Breaking Point 4 along the way down, but then some wrong turns prevented that. I revived it for a rebuild of an old bot (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/622901144246681624/730641113836158986/unknown.png)
and here we are! It looks pretty good for my standards at least.
