Here are some of my bots!
First up: Megastorm, a MW HS
https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/86415screenshot_8.bmp (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/86415screenshot_8.bmp)
Here is a battle pic:
https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/100screenshot_27.bmp (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/100screenshot_27.bmp)
Tell me what you think!
Insides coming soon.
-
HS? =P
Underweaponed. Can we see the insides too? And please make your pics .pngs or .jpgs, and make it show up in this window.
-
How do I do that?
BTW: what do you mean underweaponed?
-
Paint.
-
I mean not enough weapon HPs.
Just put the image tags around your pic to make it show.
-
Not enough weapons.
I bet the chassis is too large as well.
-
Well, it's actually alright. Sub-par, but a good starting point.
Let's see the insides?
-
Ok, here it is
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/65868screenshot_5.bmp)
-
Please use Pngs or jpgs. Ballasts = Fail.
-
Ballasts are weight lost, you know.
-
lots of empty space and what's withe the ballasts?
-
But if I leave them out, the bot goes gyro dancing (I believe that is the term).
-
Don't waste weight with the ballasts - use it somewhere else.
-
Here's another bot: Tsunami Evolution.

The insides:

-
What should I add to it to make the bot better?
-
Its an unrealistic popup in DSL. Sorry, but nein.
-
What makes it unrealistic?
Edit: is it the caster armor?
-
Caster armor - even if badly built.
-
What adjustments do you think I should make to them?
-
Hypnos.
-
Here's another one: Nobody Cares 3. I might enter it in BBEANS6

cool looking... but do the blades cut through the wheels? if they do its not realistic. But keep at it man!
-
I don't think so... maybe just a little. Thanks!!
-
Whats the armour?
-
1 mm steel.
-
Here's another bot: savage: a MW popup

Ahh! Useless parts!
-
Ok lets see..
Unused chasiis space, Check
Usless balance casters at the back, check
Bad choice of wheels, check
Underpower by the looks of it, Check.
-
Take out the casters, add batteries.
-
*cough* Metal Hinge *cough*
-
Thanks for the tips!
-
*cough* try to make the chassis wrap around the components*cough*

Time for another bot! this one's called We Didn't Start the Fire:

cool
-
Thanks!
-
LW: Unrealistic. The weapons don't do any damage lke that, you have to rotate them 90 degrees.
Tsunami: Could be a lot better, sorry. The caster armor isn't doing a lot here.
But they definitely aren't bad. Keep building, you'll get better in no time.
-
maybefor "I started the fire" extend the length of the spinners?
I agree the castor armor is retarded in that situation
-
Because Bad Dog is dangerous...
...Wait is that mine?

Ummm... you posted the same pic. XD
There.
Now, for the comments:
Your HW popup needs Mags to be effective. And instead of using gripless Taz wheels, use Technos instead. Get rid of the side ramplates to get the weight.
Your BW's not realistic. :P
-
The inside shot is in twice for the BW.
-
Good job pointing that out. Thanks. :D
-
Natef add BW=Two pics of insides.
LOL!
-
Don't ruin it.
-
Here's another, made by my friend who has no knowledge of RA2

Insides:
-
Decent, for a BW.
-
Thats not an AW
Unless that bar passes thorugh the wheels, Thats not half bad. What armour?
-
Yeah it is. BW=175KG
-
Tell him he can use tornado spikes or razor tips on this.
-
Condor, he said AW, not BW.
-
I'll post another one he made later. BTW: the AW is really good at combat.
-
...It's not an AW. AWs are 1-125 kgs, BWs are 125-175 kgs.
So technically it's a BW. An yours on the last page is a LW.
-
Ok. BTW: Would ramplates work better on Tsunami Evolution?
-
2 30 kg tite sheets might be the best.
-
I mean for the armour.
-
Yeah...
-
Here's the battlepic of Serial Killer I forgot to include:
-
I would seriously rebuild that bot so it is realistic.
-
Tsunami Evolution? If so, what should I do?
-
No.... Serial Killer. Tsunami evolution is realsitic.
-
Do you uys think my bots are good material for BBEANS?
-
Uhhhh...I am sure they would get pass a round or two.
-
Uhhhh...I am sure they would get pass a round or two.
But there really good at killing the AI bots!
-
If it can kill the normal AI, try out Nary's AI. It should be more of a challenge. :D
-
Because the Nar pack is the starcore of DSL.
-
If it can kill the normal AI, try out Nary's AI. It should be more of a challenge. :D
Would you download them like the DSL AI and just replace the replicas or remakes with them?
-
Yep. Just like Starcore.
-
There's one problem with Tsunami Evolution: it cannot self right. What should I do to make his self right?
-
Try wedges on Mag snappers. be sure that the srimech arc is realistic, though. :D

Fixed.
For a LW, you should use mags or NPCs (if NPCFs, even better though I think it's overkill).
To get the weight, lower the chassis height and attach the CB horizontally instead. Swap irons for razors and use Vlads (rubbers have the same grip as shinies).
-
For a LW, you should use mags or NPCs (if NPCFs, even better though I think it's overkill).
O_O??? I always thought Slims were fine, mags are good too, but NPCs is going a bit overboard. Still, not my choice, just choose what seems best.
Follow what Pwn said 'bout the razors & Vlads, maybe use hypnos also.
-
My popup used NPCs. I couldn't KO Lug Nut without 'em. XD
-
I could KO Lock Nut with a LW with slims.
-
What kind of motors should I use? Or should I stick with slimbodies and change the wheels?
M.L.P. uses normal NPC drive with Hypnos. I use slims for Lw spinners, but are to slow for anything else.

The second one is over weight by 3 kigs.

Less weight in extenders, more in weapons, please

BW's are 125.1-175.0 kg, not under 200 kg.

The teeth are facing the wrong way.
-
The teeth are facing the wrong way.
That's the way the disc runs, like a lot of HS's (it's based off of Big n' Beefy, and that's the way BnB's weapon goes).
-
So the disk spins......downward.
-
That isn't the best idea for a VS of that kind.... but do as you wish.
-
So the disk spins......downward.
No, it spins upward. I guess it was hard to tell because the cursor is on the tooth.
-
flip the teath around. they only do damage in one direction.
-
Teeth have normals and fail anyways. Ripblade III uses beater bars and it RAPES the old Ripblade 2.
-
Teeth have normals and fail anyways. Ripblade III uses beater bars and it RAPES the old Ripblade 2.
Should I use them instead?
-
Use something without normals.
-
What exactly are normals?
-
Normals on a componets means there is a set spot on a weapon which deals damage. The weapon will not do damage should you hit an oponent with a different part of it.
-
like the blunt side of a knife vs the ouchy side
-
Normals on a componets means there is a set spot on a weapon which deals damage. The weapon will not do damage should you hit an oponent with a different part of it.
And that means weapons without normals do damage no matter how they hit... generally means more damage, so better.
-
I just got some skin/decal packs, now I have more pInt styles to choose from!
Edit: BTW, which version of Nobody Cares do you think is better?

Any advice?

When I read that I was like WTF???!!!

The thing is: I like stock A LOT more than DSL. I've been waiting for a stock tourney for a while, but none have come up.
-
DP and bump.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/88633Retrax 2 Splash.jpg)
The only thing(s) wrong with the bot is that it is hard it outwedge other wedges. Also, the weapons have a short range.
-
use metal hinges for the wedge.
-
He can stick with that wedge, depending on a few factors: how heavy are the wedges, how much degrees is the hinge, and etc. Just look a HazCon, skirt hinge wedges can be effective if done right.
-
Make the chassis smaller.
-
Underpowered, yet looks effective for a DSL2.1 bot. You do need better wedges, hmmm. I say take the skirt hinges out... use Flipper segments+ small wedges. Take away the 2 1/2 sheets and add a static full one. That should protect it and make it more effective.
-
He can stick with that wedge, depending on a few factors: how heavy are the wedges, how much degrees is the hinge, and etc. Just look a HazCon, skirt hinge wedges can be effective if done right.
I'm aware that skirt hinge wedges can be good, I have some bots with skirt hinge wedges that can get under metal hinges. Unless I read his post wrong, he's saying that his bot has a hard time outwedging other bots, which probably means that the wedges suck.
-
Shorten the chassis, perhaps give it a slope of some sort, so you can attach a 30kg tite sheet to a 45-degree anchor, and use metal hinge wedges. Also, moar ants.
-
Add two ants.
You might be aware that halfsheets only have 1500 HP (fixed in NAR AI v2.2)
-
When I attach the hinges, they 'fly' off. Is this some sort of glitch?
-
When I attach the hinges, they 'fly' off. Is this some sort of glitch?
Just go to the Test Arena & Go back to the bot lab & Itll be fixed...
Not really what people want, But it doesnt really annoy you forever.
-
When I attach the hinges, they 'fly' off. Is this some sort of glitch?
Happens often.
Either do what Linck said, either just switch to another tab quickly after attaching the metal hinge.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/99925Popup_Splash.jpg)
A possible BBEANS6 entry. Any name ideas?
-
I think you have the weight to upgrade to a metal hinge wedge.
-
Definitely upgrade to a metal hinge wedge. You can use just a BSG on this as well, but 6 razors is kinda overkill. You could put Hypno wheels on this as well, but then it might be too generic.
Then again: efficiency > originality

some names
-
maybe Trigger-Happy?
(for the name)
-
Or... The Last Showdown
-
EAT RAZORS!!
-
For the name... well Badnik wins, especially with a smartzone that 'triggers' the weapon.
Anyways, it isn't bad, but definitely a single BSG, maybe a little less razors, grippier wheels and front armor.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/8056Trigger Happy Splash.jpg)
I went with Trigger Happy.
I took off 2 razors, added Hypno wheels, used a hinge wedge, and gave it better armor.
Only problem: sometimes unstable.
Hasn't really been tested in battle.
-
I've heard that if you rotate the razor tips so a flat side is facing forward it is better.
-
I've heard that if you rotate the razor tips so a flat side is facing forward it is better.
The 'blade' part? I already did that.
-
I've heard that if you rotate the razor tips so a flat side is facing forward it is better.
The 'blade' part? I already did that.
No you didn't, and the chassis wedge is too steep.
What GK is talking about is that you should make the razors like this:
/\
Like an upside down v.
-
BSG>Mag snapper
-
Hey.
BBEANS 6 is on the way, right? (Of course!)
Well, I'm having a hard time deciding which bot is the best entry. Which one do you guys think is the best?
1.

2.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/17343Nobody Cares lV Splash.jpg)
-
The LW's wedge is wayyyy too steep. And 090901 already said BSGs > Mags.
HS....well that's not exactly the toughest weapon on earth.
-
The popup by far.
Yes, the wedge is too steep for my taste as well also that armor setup, while rather cool and original, isn't the most efficient.
-
The popup by far.

What type of armor would be more efficient?
-
Metal skirts on a lightweight extender work (like a skirt hinge)
Or you might be able to use that complete game breaker (I very much feel like reducing it's hitpoints in NAR AI) that is the Firestorm flipper, but if you do you might want change your paintjob to a red/yellow one else it's gong to be ugly.
-
Nobody cares is uuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnddddddddeeeeeeeeerrrrwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeiiggght
and needs moar weaponry.
-
Nobody cares can have gripper wheels like wide ant wheels or hypnos.
-
...but with hypnos it will be unrealistic (blade will pass thru wheels) and it won't be able to use Slimbody drive with wide ant wheels.
-
...but with hypnos it will be unrealistic (blade will pass thru wheels) and it won't be able to use Slimbody drive with wide ant wheels.
He can rasie the blade.
-
This is what I've got so far for BBEANS6.
It sucks, I know.
-
Well of course it sucks, it's not a complete bot... it will be much better once it has wheels and weapons, trust me.
Looks like a good start, though you can probably make the back end a bit shorter and still have room for batteries back there.
-
More work has been done.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/280Trigger Happy Splash 2.jpg)
The weapons and wedge work, the only problem is its lack of front armor.
-
what chassis armour?
-
what chassis armour?
I'm pretty sure it's either plastic 1,3, or steel 1
-
No other comments?
-
That's going to get KOed really quickly by the right bot. Add armor.
-
For the 3rd time (the post was removed), what should I replace to add better armor.
-
Use wide ant wheels instead of Hypno's to get weight for wedge armor.
-
No, shrink the chassis and lighten up your extender work on the weapon. Tweak it and you'll find something.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/17506Trigger Happy Splash 3.jpg)
I shrank the chassis and got rid of one battery. I tried using aluminum skirts on a hinge as armor. That failed, so I took them off and added a firestorm Flipper. The only trouble is it can't outwedge other robots, so I replaced the hinges with skirt hinges, and made the skirts longer, but there is still some weight left.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85971Trigger Happy Insides.jpg)
-
got rid of one battery.
Why not put it back? 4 batteries will be much better than 3 with this design.
How wedgy is it with the skirt hinge?
-
Better (though it looks worse now :P). But is it really worth it to use weight on 2 metal hinges?
-
got rid of one battery.
Why not put it back? 4 batteries will be much better than 3 with this design.
How wedgy is it with the skirt hinge?
It's better, but I think I should make it a bit longer, and add another battery (maybe make it out of polycarbonate).
-
believe it or not, angle skirts are wedgier than strait skirt. At least from the tests that I had done.
-
believe it or not, angle skirts are wedgier than strait skirt. At least from the tests that I had done.
I second this, especially the 120 cms that are very awesome if done well.
-
My hiatus has ceased! A new bot has been made!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/60883Diend Splash.jpg)
Yes, I would. The armor is titanium 3 (I believe). Not sure what to do with the extra weight. It can outwedge most of DSL 2.1's AI.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/82503Diend Spray.jpg)
I made this cool spray that I was going to use for TF2, but it said "file corrupt". A possible skin idea, but I don't know how to skin.
-
Well, that's the generic popup setup you have there, so there's nothing much you can add there. :D
-
It's not as generic as you can think :P
-
I think it needs more batteries, especially with the weight left over
-
I do believe Natef used 6 ants on this, that is sufficient for such a popup...
That brings a question however. Is 7 ants better ?
-
I count 3...
But the more the merrier instead of wasted weight.
-
I see 4.
-
There's three obvious ones, one under the anchor and maybe two hidden under the two next to the motors.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/77823MacMillan.jpg)
Pretty good when I tested it, flinging robots high into the air. Very slow, though.
-
<3
How many ants?
-
Five... I think. How Can I make it faster?
-
You only need 4 ants. Remove one ant and upgrade to Astroflights.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/77823MacMillan.jpg)
...BW POPUPS!?
My life. It has been ruined. Thanks Nate. :frown:
-
What?
-
I think he liked BW Rammers a lot. Anyways, it looks good. If you have the weight, I would upgrade the extenders.
-
BW TRUE popup. =P And probably not terribly effective, I'd say it was more of a flipper thing that causes damage. But it's still quite a good build.
-
BW True Popups aren't new, FOTEPX.
-
A little underweight, get rid of an ant and use grippier wheels (or maybe Slimbody motors))
-
BW True Popups aren't new, FOTEPX.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF- :rage
*half a minute later*
...Wait, really?
-
No, I made one months ago, and I know someone else (can't remember who) made one that was better around the same time.
-
There's a fail one in NAR AI (in the Narmor-spammed team), but still is a true popup :P
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/49378MacMillan_2.jpg)
I made it faster with slimbody motors, but it does tip over some times. After I made the splash, I changed the control board and gave it smaller wheels. It can beat every BW in DSL 2.1 except Mircrowhirl.
Edit: I realized the pic of the bot's exterior is the old version. My apologies!
-
Anyone?
-
Hmmm, extra 7 kg to use up there.
-
Don't think you really need a metal hinge.
Also, moar armor.
-
Those extenders look rather exposed. You should use something more durable--perhaps a hex plate with 3 razors? Increase durability and damage at the same time. You might be able to scoot the BSG over a bit to make it symmetrical too.
Nice bot, the only other problem is that it's too skinny, but I don't see anything you can do about that. And a metal hinge wedge is great if you have weight for it, depending on whether your goal is more to beat other wedges, or to beat non-wedges.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85657Splsh 2.jpg)
New and improved! I used Click's idea of using the hex plate, but had to take out a battery.
-
Nice. I take it it's your MMR entry. How many ants?
-
Four, I believe.
-
I like it. Nate, are you planning to enter CCIV? I think it'd be cool.
-
I'm not sure If I will.
-
You should. :D
-
It's not a square chassis, though.
Edit: I'm putting it on the bot exchange.
-
Well not with that obviously (its only a beetleweight), but who knows if you could create a cube popup?

-
Looks quite good, Nate. Wheels are a little bit small, though.
-
Yeah, if I were you i'd have made it a HW and used m.o.e's perm motors with BIG disks.
-
Should be much wider
-
Pretty cool there Nate.
-

Updated Tsar Tank. I may do the Little Willie next.
-
Nobody?
-
It looks cool.
-
Unrealistic :trollface
Looks bloody cool though
-
I like it better than the first.
-
I have another bot, called: Black, White, and No Red. It was made out of Trigger Happy. It weighs 247.6 kg.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/27166Screen shot 2011-06-22 at 7.18.13 PM.png)
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/59419Screen shot 2011-06-22 at 7.18.24 PM.png)
-
The wedges could be better. Here's an idea:
Swap that hex plate you have for the weapons for a couple of polycarbonate extenders. This should give you enough weight for angled poly skirt wedges. Of course they'll still be weak but still better than what you have now.
-
Swap out the rubbers for some lower wheels for ground clearance (wide ants probably)
-
I updated BWaNR.

-
Rotate the razors so the flat side faces out
-
I disagree, that would leave the extenders more exposed. I'd try and get Mini wheels on there, rather than Ants.
-
Another bot.

-
Change the wheels and shrink the chassis.
Try and get better drive if you have the weight.
Oh and that would need about 4-5 ants (dependent on which version you are using)
-
Needs moar drive.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/84408macmillan2.jpg)
-
overweight, bw limit is 175 kg
also what armor
-
Don't use a PA skirt for the wedge. Just use a normal 40cm alu skir.
-
Overweight, as Mr. AS said...
-
A skirt hinge with an al skirt would suffice for BW, then you could possibly armour the front with something else.
I also think the drive is slightly overkill, and unless you have a ninja battery in there somewhere, it's also underpowered.
-
It hurts my wrist when I build. I think I may get carpal tunnel syndrome.
-
Might just be repetitive strain injury.
If you want to use the PA skirt as a wedge, though, swap it for a 40cm poly skirt. Lighter, and much, much wedgier. If you want to use it as a stabiliser, though, then retract the chassis, mount it on an ME, and try to get an extra battery in there. Also swap for the Blue CB for extra weight, you're 2.2kg overweight as it is.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/43539I suck at bot naming.jpg)
I was worse with my lego bots.
Anyway, I know I have sinned against DSL.
-
...Irl or troll or what?
-
What?
-
it's much worse than anything I've seen from you, so I asked if it's meant to be IRL, a troll bot or a serious one.
-
I'm not sure. How is it really that bad?
-
Pussycat wheels, ME not on the baseplate, underweight, heavy cb, over powered, slow drive, empty space, unnecesarry stabilizers, and most of all, DSA.
-

ME?
-
multi extender
-
I took out the batteries, changed it to steel 1, kept the stabilzers, and changed the drive to slims, though it still has 12 kilos left. (pic coming soon).
-
Steel 1 is bad, use Titanium 1 or Plastic 3.
-
Eh, it's building under your skill level.
-
I still don't get (even after the changes) how it is still that bad.
-
oh god thats bad
you need way more weapons
-
I still don't get (even after the changes) how it is still that bad.
- More Weapons
- Better wheels
- More protection
- You should know how poor DSA is in DSL.

how did you go from this

I feel bad :(
What if I swapped the beater bars with maces or DS cutting teeth?
I also changed the wheels to shinies.
-
Ok you have to be joking now, just add some razors onto the beaters
-
What?
Why is everyone getting on my back about this?
-
Because you seem to have lost most of your knowledge about ra2.
Maces aren't that good in dsl
-
Sorry.
-
Not getting on oyur back just helping you along. Maybe things have changed alot since you built last. Here, read this: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5739.0.html (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,5739.0.html)

-
A bit better. Again don't use the multi extenders unless they're on you're baseplate. I still feel that you're outweaponed. I'm not quite sure how to fix that though.
-
It's unrealistic to have them that way?
-
The multi extenders?
-
Yeah.
-
Nope. It's just there are better choices in extenders.
-
put the motors outside of the chassis and reduce the empty space afterwards
-
put the motors outside of the chassis and reduce the empty space afterwards
Would it be better to use anchors than multi extenders?
-
put the motors outside of the chassis and reduce the empty space afterwards
Would it be better to use anchors than multi extenders?
wat
me's weigh less than ba's
-
Absolutely not. At least not for this. Basteplate anchors do exactly the same things as ME's, but are heavier.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/25863screenshot_2.jpg)
-
That's even worse than your last bot. Replace the Ant Saws with a DSL Bar or Disc with beater bars.
-
Whoops. I actually had a weapon slave with beater bars.
-
Well that's good. Maybe get hypno wheels on there in exchange for something?
-
What if I took off the hinge?
-
I wouldn't risk that.
-
oh look a bw sftw
those wheels are too big downgrade them to ant wheels if you can
-
Use Multi-Extender instead of the baseplate anchor. It will save you weight.
-
That's even worse than your last bot. Replace the Ant Saws with a DSL Bar or Disc with beater bars.
Thats even worst than your last advice. Replace the first part with a comment on less drive.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/70399WIP Splash1.png)
A work in progress.
-
ok wtf
-the disk cuts though the perm
-hs generally dont need wedges
-the extender work is @_@ing awful, keep it simple and just use a few me's and the occasional round extender
-theres a huge ass white box around the bot, get rid of that
gj with less empty space though
-
I don't know how that happened. I was using GIMP for the first time.
-
Stop cropping like sparkey.
It's pretty bad anyways. Not enough weapons, needs more refined extender work, unrealistic.
-
Why you use gimp? just use paint. >.<
-
You get a lot more features with GIMP, and it's a free piece of software. Much like Paint.NET, I find PDN easier to use, though, than GIMP.
There are several things that can be done to improve this bot. Largely the unrealistic weapon, the disc cuts directly through the drive belt on the Perm. The extender work is also a complete mess, along with the redundant wedges. You should have a bit more weaponry as well, if you tidy up the extenders, maybe attach everything directly to ME's, that'll save you a LOT of weight for weaponry.
-
You get a lot more features with GIMP, and it's a free piece of software. Much like Paint.NET, I find PDN easier to use, though, than GIMP.
I'm not stupid, I have Gimp myself too. You could just crop the picture with paint.
-
I prefer to use Photoshop CS4, but that's because I always want to make a nice splash for my bots. For normal clopping like this, Paint is indeed more then enough.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/90640New WIP Splash.jpg)
How do you shrink the canvas like in Paint?
-
If you select an area of the picture, then select Ctrl + Shift + X, it crops the image to your selection.
Similar problems to the last bot, though. Clean up your extender work, and maybe swap the weapon TWM for a Piglet. Perhaps lose the central beater add some DS teeth with the saved weight, that'll help with gutripping stuff.
-
Use a metal hinge for your wedge.
-
yeah beater bars are mainly good if you have a high dp weapon backing it up
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/33756irl bot splash.jpg)
A WIP of an IRL bot.
God, I suck at this game.
-
I would move the flipper slightly back.
-
So much empty space...
-
It's IRL, expect a little bit of inefficiency. Flipper could be moved further back, perhaps if you turned the judge burst the other way round, to get the axle closer to the back of the bot. That should help the side panel line up with the front wedge a bit better.
-
It's IRL, expect a little bit of inefficiency.
Yes, "a little bit". Not nearly 40% of empty space !
This is a MW flipper/popup chassis and he's using it for a LW.
-
I wonder why he's posting a WIP and not just keep building to actually show a finished product.
-
oh my god what happened to your building skill
(not referring to the IRL bot, but the 2 lws before it)
-
did you try using the other aps of the shell panel to put it on (ie instead of the top back ap try using the middle back one)
-
oh my god what happened to your building skill
(not referring to the IRL bot, but the 2 lws before it)
I don't know@
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/77072irl bot splash2.jpg)
-
WTF is that flipper setup...
-
yeah the plow is weird.
-
I made it to help the robot against spinners.
-
..Anyone?
-
WTF is that flipper setup...
Pretty much. Very few robots can get away with complex attachments and still be IRL, but this just looks like someone passed a magnet through a scrapyard (no offense). A simpler and cleaner setup will surely make it better.
-
less drive more protection for that motor
-
Indeed, it is far too fast for a flipper.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/31921bot3.jpg)
-
still
less drive more protection for that motor
also ti halfsheet put directly on the chassis = poor show
-
What kind of protection?
-
flippermakers preferably
-
not IRL, put the judge burst in the chassis
-
It probably doesn't need 4WD, also flipper segments have only 1000 hps so making the whole flipper out of them alone might not be such a good idea. Perhaps you could house the flipper assembly in the chassis and use a component for the exposed part of the flipper.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/81268bot4.jpg)
Still can't flip stuff.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/24510Fail safe.jpg)
2 variants of the same bot. Still can't flip stuff, though.
-
why so asymmetric
-
swap the ds teeth for beater bars
-
How do I make the flipper stronger?
-
Use more flippers, or put the burst higher.
-
I was going for an IRL bot.
-
Small JX can not flip anything. At all.
-
What about a mag snapper?
-
Even worse. Judge Burst might be your best bet, Large JX can flip things with some luck.
-
Where do I get it?
-
cheatbot2 under extras and the preview is a picture of the judge
-
How do I control this beast of a motor?
-
Wire it to a button?
-
How do I control this beast of a motor?
you have to put some weight on is so it doesn`t havoc
-
Like armor?
-
If it's got 30kg of "stuff" on it, it shouldn't havok. So add some pretties or go nuts with the decoration or something.
-
heavy stuff like a ti sheet, sledges, etc.
at least 30kg but more (60+ kg) is recommended
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/17147Fail safe 2.jpg)
Still has trouble self-righting. I had to decrease the flipping range to stop it from flipping itself over repeatedly.
-
Lookin pretty cool now.
-
Is it IRL?
-
I'd say so.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/55950All Bots Attempt.jpg)
Here is one of those "all of my bots in the testing area" splashes.

So you only have 4 bots??

Those are my best 4.

Can we get another angle? In that one it's hard to see where the blade is cutting.
-

-
Could you center the MOE blade so it isn't asymmetrical?
-
I probably could.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/50569new splash.jpg)

at least you seem to be out of that slump that you were in, but do the poly sheets serve any purpose ? and you might want to get axle support for the weapon, like on skidmark
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/55024INSIDES.png)
^the top one^
because im pretty sure youre going for a skidmark klone like bot anyway

I added the skirts because it wouldn't be balanced without them.
Sorry for kloning :(
-
Sorry for kloning :(
I see no cloning...
You are really bad at taking cool pictures of your bots. While yes a top down is nice to see the insides, I can barely tell what else the bot is.
The best angles are a little above ground level and about 20-45 degrees off the front of the bot. Preferably so we can see both the front and the sides and get an idea of what the bot looks like. It's also pretty cool when you pose bots in an arena like I do. Just take a little more time on the presentation of the bots and your showcase will get more positive comments. Trust me.
-
Can I see some examples?
-
look at the Robot Wars Series 8 splashes...
-
It's hardly a clone, most IRL MW drums look quite a lot like each other anyways.
-
I hope I don't get banned for this

CRM-114
*5 Ant batteries
*Titanium 1 armor
*2 Wheel Slimbody drive
*TWM3R weapon power
-
yep its true hes looking at a dsl robot to get his hard
i mean come on, if anything he'd be looking at a good ole stock robot
but yeah just give it a circular chassis so it looks more real/sexy and it should be fine
...its irl right ?
-
Yes, I believe so.
-
you still have weight, make the srimech J-shaped(like MegaBytes) so that it'll look more IRL.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/3165Untitled.jpg)
My attempt at an HS.
-
Mechavore disc is perfect but the extenders need work. It will look MUCH better if you make the chassis wider and put extenders coming directly off the corners, instead of that wonky flipper segment setup you have there. You certainly have weight for a wider chassis.
Ideal setup is four extenders, a lower and an upper set.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/46742fluids splash.jpg)
-
Looks good. Whats the skin like?
-
It looks like an acid trip. I'm basing it off of General Jack D Ripper's obsession with fluids from Dr. Strangelove.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1KvgtEnABY# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1KvgtEnABY#)
-
One 400-point hit and your weapon motor is gone. I would downgrade the drive to Astros (you might have to resize the chassis) and get some motor protection.
-
What's the best way to protect it?
-
Put something in front of the motor (like a DSL bar or something).
-
Looking decent, if kinda narrow. It looks like it could be easily tipped over, perhaps widen the stance a little to help with that.
-
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/4831fluids2.jpg)
My OCD-ness is killing my bot building skill.
-
Looking pretty good, but doesn't the weapon scraping the ground hurt it? (When I said make an upper and lower set of support extenders, I meant put the lower set below the disc, to keep it off the ground.) If it works fine with the disc on the ground though, ignore what I just said.
-

I believe it just makes the bot turn a bit.

Another WIP, the first HW I've made in a while. Uses four BP's, and has titanium 3 armor.
-
sledges look out of place
-
I present... Major Kong!
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/60459major kong.jpg)
After this, I'm down to my last bot in my Live Designs team. I've got builders' block, though :(
-
I'da thought tazbot wedges work/look better than the flipper segments + beater bars, but that's just me.
-
ew
the wheelguards look a bit flimsy and i doubt you'd see hammers being used for ramming along with the beater+flipper segment arrangement you're using. and the shell panel pieces dont fit imo
-
Wow that looks bad if that's IRL
-
Not only does that weapon setup looks bad, it's also pretty lame efficiency-wise. Try and come with something cleaner.
-
What do you mean, "cleaner"?
-
Simpler and lighter.
-
What if I used irons instead?
-
Irons are pretty bad, but at least you will use less weight on extenders.
-
If I couldn't make a good rammer, I'd probably make it a HS like Destructive Criticism.
What's the best way to set up the wheel guards?
-
Wheel guards are for pansies.
Instead of bothering about wheel guards, widen your frontal weapon rack or use weight towards mobility (higher grip wheels, faster motors). You shouldn't be flanked in the first place, especially with a rammer.

What are the better wheels?
-
In order : Technos, Overkills, Wheely Big Cheese's, Hypnos, Vlads, Slipperbottoms, Tornados, motorbike wheels, DSL wheels, and the rest you needn't bother with on HW level. Most of the time.
-
sledges still look out of place

Titanium 3, 230-something
You don't need the small disc next to the main disc. remove it and make the bot use a single wedge, and add more weapons and stabilizers.
-
Moar weapons
-
What you need :
Moar weapons, less useless discs, less weight used on the wedge system, an actual second wedge to feed your opponents in the weapon, and building to weight limit.
-
Also has the potential to be a fairly cool IRL bot tbh.
Build both a standard version and IRL version, that'll be good to see from you mr nate :D
-

I was making it IRL, actually.
-
So it's IRL ? Well, keep the metal hinges and see how many people you can piss off. :trollface
-
If that's the case, as a general rule under no circumstances use metal hinge wedges.
EDIT: Curse you, Nary. :P
-

EDIT: Curse you, Nary. :P
^^bad advice. this IRL rule of "no metal hinge wedges" is because irlfags are butthurt of having good wedges in their tourneys and they MUST rely on chassis wedges, therefore being boring.
-
But they wouldn't really work IRL, Nar. When they're flat to the floor like Nate's bot and the floor isn't 100% flat, the wedges will get caught, most likely either highsiding the bot or rendering the wedge useless.
-

If the floor isn't 100% flat then why bother making wedges at all ? Hell your argument works for flippers and for basically every single type of wedge.
-
If that's the case, as a general rule under no circumstances use metal hinge wedges.
Who cares man, IRL should be coolness, so whatever works is fine.

pretty generic right

Certainly reminiscent of Reier's Short Circuit.
