To be REALLY great at DSL, one should be able to build all types of bots well.

So I decided to build my own über-powered VS with nearly 450 kg into the weapon.. and here it is.

Basically, i refined (rebuild 4 times for a smaller chassis) a prototype that you just need to ask if you want to see it, and i came with that:

Crash Test. 3mm titanium, 5 ant batts + 2 battlepacks and Hazcon's drive.

Well, it's pretty nice. Powerful as heck, faster than i expected for that drive, decent armor. Surprisingly goes usually under Smashbox 2 (these are metal hinged wedges). EPIC ninja fights with Mako.

BUT - because there's always a but - the thing is UNREALISTIC ! Hammers pass through wheels.

I bet i can make that chassis longer and reverse the NPC's, if i remove one ant batt. Won't be much of a problem i think.

Any comments? (also for the previous face spinner)

^^Spam please delete^^

The small DS spikes on the FS are worthless. The VS looks good though, if unstable. I don't know how light they are, but you could use the Hex plates also.

I agree on the near-worthlessness of the small DS spikes and was aware of it when building ,but the finished bot was something like 370 kg so i wasted weight. Still can't have a good wedge on this MW for some reason.

I though of hex plates when building but i didn't found the good one.

And you just made me check the thing: thanks to you, it now uses weapon slave hex plates. Same weight, and total length slightly decreased. And first bot of mine using hex plates...

The weapon now barely goes through the wheel and way better than before, but still enough to be unrealistic.

Actually, it probably could be realistic. You could shave down the wheels. Remember No Name #12 and the pic I had of it. It would probably be acceptable.

if he shaved the wheels they wouldn't touch the ground  and wouldnt give the same performance it does in game. Try rotating the perm.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

But then No Name #12 wouldn't have gotten the same performance in game either.

Yeah, You can't shave a wheel. It will wobble like crazy. No Name #12 was not realistic in my miind.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

Something like 1/8th of the wheel's diameter.

New bot... eer, if you can call this a bot

Don't know what is this.

I just wanted to use tank treads (second time i use them and first on a MW) and make a defensive poker, but the tank treads were annoying me for putting a skirt hinge (wedge), plus i wanted to put the hammers slightly between the tank theads but the collision mesh wouldn't let me do the thing.

It seems than locked magmotors can't be axle loaded, so i removed the tank threads, put the hammers and the hinge, and then i simultaneously snapper loaded the skirt hinge and "piston loaded" the Storm piston (added a copal on the hammers and making it spin).

The hinge and piston flew in space (with the piston not coming back), so i put the treads then i went to the test area. Black screen (i bet it's piston loading).

When coming back, i got THAT!

Well...

Made to be a SnS/HS hybrid, and more importantly first bot file edit.

3mm plastic - first it was 1mm titanium and the chassis was even taller than the blade's position, making it an UGLY (and unrealistic) bot. Now it's decently good looking with the bot file edit.

Moved the Astroflights down because at 1 notch up from the baseplate the bot didn't turned decently (but fast as heck).

Problem, now when i want to turn it divides by zero, both of the Astroflights axle load and result: bot bumps everywhere uncontrollably.

I've had this often with my subweight bots. It could be the Nasty Pickle glitch (wheel bigger than chassis) but they NEVER teleport OOTA...

this bot should join any academic school of bot buidling :
-compact
-widely re usable (many weight free to customize it for a LW)

It's an ant!

Anyways...

For some crappy reason I'm still not able to build a decent DOAM-style MW VS without axle wedges. But i SHOULD !

This one is better than the first showcased but still wobbles when i spin the weapon, whatever it is.

Static titanium wedges, 1mm titanium, 5 ant batts.

I bet that with a wider stance, a center of gravity moved forward and lower ground clearance it would be better.

_________

EDIT: I'm actually working of a brand new (i think) type of wedge, involving simply hinge skirts.

It looks as efficient as an usual skirt hinge wedge (with actual skirts on it), maybe a little better, roughly the same weight, but it's INVULNERABLE. Like titanium half sheets fixed on your baseplate.

congratulation ! If this works, it will be a real projection in DSL bot building and we 'll soon see many of these

I'm not sure about the future popularity of these. I see plenty of flaws.

______

I'm definitely wanting to be at least decent at building vertical spinners - and here is my newest one

Devourer, my first Mako clone. Built pretty much quickly.

3mm plastic, Magmotor drive, 2 battlepacks, 3 ant batts. Extenders are all titanium.

Well, it can actually put up a fight unlike my previous MWs, but it's unstable and has issues with the (titanium) axle wedges. Won't call that a good bot, but it's not crap either.

Either you're being sarcastic, either... You're building in DSL since 6 damn months and you're asking me if this is a MW or a HW?

Changed the weapon on the actual middleweight...

And it works now!

At least, it CAN actually fight and i had some victories with that, and one epic defeat where Lock Nut KO'ed me with it's TRIBAR.

OH NOES DOUBLE POST !!11!

Again, it's me KOing Pon2n with my personal Destroyer HPBL clone.

5mm titanium, 4 ant batts, 3 battlepacks, 5mm titanium, Magmotor drive.

Can't be seen here, but it has Infcon's rear stabilizer - 80cm angled polycarbonate skirts.

I think I speak for all of us when I say we all play DSL with a realistic rule. Now, riddle me this. Have you ever seen a wedge in real life with magic invisible surface area like the skirt hinge? I think that using the hinge alone as a wedge is unrealistic when used in such a manner. (This is all re: the skirt hinge wedge bot.)
