Title: Mouldy's DSL Showcase
Post by: Mouldy on February 05, 2011, 04:16:03 PM
Random non-sense from my 11 year old self.

If you are new to my showcase, you should know that back in 2011 I was 11. I couldn't build nor speak decent English. So if you want a laugh, the next 6-7 pages are filled with rubbish. Anything past 7 is better. Enjoy!

Is that a stab a redemption I see ?

Now let us see if you deserve it or not.

Got a long way to go to get rid of that negative rep Mr Kingbash.

Keep your showcase productive and try not to start any tournaments.  That should get you on the right track.  Good luck!

Well, it is possible that he played the idiot just to get attention, and that he can act smarter that he did before. So he might be redeemable.

He cleaned up his grammar (well sorta, I can read it), I'll give him a chance.

You truly are not the one who should talk about grammar...

I am merely pointing out that you were known for terrible spelling, so you judging him on his grammar is not appropriate.

Any thoughts on what I could make because I'm not sure.

Not too bad, but you're gonna need a Dual Perm for that, and I don't think the whole spinner setup needs to be that high.  You'll need faster drive as well, and what armor does it have?
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase

Also...build to the weight limit.

1st thing: Couldnt fit it in
2nd thing: It had to be high otherwise the anglers wouldnt fit in.
3rd thing: 5 plastic

Also...build to the weight limit.
Ok

Wat?
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase
Post by: ty4er on February 06, 2011, 12:00:26 PM
Use hypno's instead
And you dont need those long batts, 1 ant per spin motor
EDIT: Two of those hammers wont hit anything if going fast enough IMO
Try and get it to be a MW or upgrade the weapon motor

Reminds me of the original version of 027's BBEANS6 entry. Just put the weapons directly on a disc, that extender setup's wasting weight.
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase
Post by: Scorpion on February 06, 2011, 12:08:11 PM
Oh, yep, those small black batteries are rubbish, don't use them.
Also try and use the blue CB rather than the green one when you can fit it in to save yourself a little bit of weight.

And, a quick guide on wheels is on here https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Naryar%27s_DSL_tips (https://gametechmods.com/RA2wiki/index.php?title=Naryar%27s_DSL_tips)

And he doesn't need hypno wheels unless using subweight motors.

feather-winged beetle -  0.4 milligrams http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-beetle.html (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-beetle.html)

Ostrich feather - 6.04696047391 Grams for big feathers, 0.19g for small. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/2278095 (http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/2278095)

Point proven.
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase
Post by: FOTEPX on February 26, 2011, 04:47:45 PM
I like how you compare lightest beetle to heaviest feather, making it totally unfair.

Also, according to that, FW's should be halfway between SHW's and UHW's!
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase
Post by: Naryar on February 26, 2011, 04:55:29 PM
Some beetles are way heavier than some feathers, and some feathers are way heavier than some beetles. You therefore cannot judge.

Hell even some ants are heavier than beetles. The original naming of insect weight and feather weight classes was certainly not done by a zoologist, nor even a lambda person who studied animal weights, so as said before you cannot judge.
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase
Post by: martymidget on February 26, 2011, 04:58:06 PM
Sub 100 should be called Springtail weight, though that would be inaccurate as there wouldn't be many of them...

Build up to the weight limit as i imagine you've been told before.
Dunt use them angle extenders or baseplates.
Would need more weapons.
Armour?
Needs better wheels aswell.
Bad extender work.
needs 2/3 ants only.
And plz crop your images.
Title: Re: MKB DSL Showcase

Extender work looks rather fragile, and it will be mullered by anything with a remotely good wedge. If possible, also try to use hypnos. And use multi extenders instead to save weight.

But apart from what me and ty4er have just said.

But it'll help you build better.
uh, no you didn't have to :P
Look at how many weapons other people's robots have. Even my LW's have more weaponry :P
Would need better wheels unless it is an art bot, which it's not :P
Use ME's instead of baseplates and you see the side attachment point on extenders? use them instead of anglers.

Look at it this way, I have the largest DSL showcase on GTM, and I don't get a single rep point for my bots.

People just don't give reps for those sort of things.  You will probably have better luck in the playground.

Yeah, rep is a very random thing at the moment. You could get repped up for helping someone, being funny (yeah, thanks JB) or simply being good. Bots aren't the way forward for rep.

Don't turn this into a rep war. I've said several times, rep is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If he wants to build bots, let him build a bot, and we can give him advice on how to improve his building. That's what Showcases are for.

After 2 years I am back and I want to make some damn good robots. I am much more mature now and is ready to take advise from you guys and use it effectively in my builds. Sorry for all the trouble I caused in the past, I was just trying to get attention but with that out the way, I'll try and get a robot out by the end of the day to see what you all think. Please give me some leniency on my first robot, like I said, haven't made a decent robot in over 2 years but I'll do my best to improve with your guys advice.

This is Monster. In battle this kicks ass, it can instantly K.O most lightweights and has no problems taking on Killdozer. I mean this thing, even though it should, can't move. It's extremely hard to control and I can just leave it there spinning and it just racks up the points when it comes into contact. (ARMOUR is T 10) Feedback is very much appreciated and I will make a big effort to improve. Thank you.

Right. Just so I can fit the dual-perm in which would lower the weapons causing damage to smaller robots right?

Not sure if the motor's raised or not, but an easier way is to make your own tribar (hex plate + DSL bars) and raise the drive.

less empty space

also less chassis armor + small unarmored chassis + external armor is generally a better way to go than giant, armored chassis.

Slims aren't horrible - it's just that they are not for HW's at all.

Just a quick heads up, should have it out by tonight as I haz no homework for the rest of the week so now I have time to work on it. I've also gathered info about what you've said and if anyone would like to add to this list, by all means reply and I will add it to the list asap.

Smaller Chassis
Make own Tribar
Wheel Motors Changed and Raised
External Armour

Thanks.

Oh my...

Don't use piglets for drive, use the blue control board, use multi-extenders instead of baseplate anchors, don't use ballast, I wouldn't use the rulers like that, if it needs balancing you'd be better off making the chassis much wider and Y connectors suck. Just put the motors on 2 separate multi-extenders.

Also, a heavyweight with drive Piglets ? Seriously ? Have you even tried drive it ?

Check the tutorials section of the forum, as well.

uhhh... what's with the top angled shell panels? They serve no purpose at all and actually are detrimental for the bot. Replace the fire axes with RAZORZ!!!!

Does anyone know if rulers even have collision? I never use them so I wouldn't know.

Also changed your showcase title. Kinda feels like abuse right now, and yeah you were building utter sh** back in the day but there's no reason you can't improve.

nope, they don't have any.

Else people would have started making OP ruler armor by then.

Cool is a good start. I shall do some spring cleaning don't worry. I know piglets weren't the best, I tried putting something else in but it wasn't working. I can't even drive it because of the weaponry at the front. Alright I'll check tomorrow morning.

The shell panels were for extra protection against the bot because the back is really really exposed. Didn't know what else to put there. Also, the robot is named after a Samurai because of how the panels work. It looks like a Samurai helmet.

Ah thank you good sir. Well you know, I was only 8 hehe. I want my DSL building to become kind of medium to high kind of standards if you know what I mean. Hopefully I can achieve this kind of building by 2-3 months.

I'll get an improved version by tomorrow morning hopefully, if not tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you.

Right. Sorry for not being here for a while, kept delaying doing the bot. I promise it shall be up in about 20 mins.

S.I.R Prototype (First draw-up of my IRL bot) MW

Pros:
Fast
Excellent pusher
Can be inverted

Cons:
Hard to control
Armour is weak

Interesting fact:
The hinges connecting the hammers make this robot have the ability to 'box' when upside down.

grrrr... IRL concussion rammers...

If you want to go down that path, a series of large beater bars in a setup like this: __|___|__ would look much nicer. The current setup just looks sloppy.

Pros:

Armour is good
Can self-right sometimes

Cons:
God awful colouring (Difficult to create skins atm because I only have paint and a terrible mouse)
Not powerful

Never ever ever ever ever ever EVER use piglets as drives. Never. They're spin motors meaning they have a high speed but less torque making it extremely inefficient.

Also, don't use mag snappers. If you really need to, use a underpowered (3-5 ant) judge burst; however BSG should be fine.

I think I was when I was 9.... All the time... That would explain why you wanted me banned :3

I think the reason I can't build a bot to begin with is because I have no inspiration and nor can I visualise what it would look like in my head. I mean, that one I posted was suppose to resemble Iron Awe 7. The other reason is that I'm still a total fail at what goes where. Things like what motors do I have for a LW Flipper? Or something on them lines. But please guys. I really do need help with this.

MKB, You're trying to be too complicated with your bot. Make the chassis lower + make it a wedge. Get smaller wheels and have the wheels be inside of the chassis (put sticking out of the top and bottom, obviously). Just get rid of the plow entirely.

I appreciate it. The skin is suppose to be like that. Suppose to resemble my Mini Mouldy Cheese 4 robot built during Wheely Tag. Long story short: Twas the SFTW.

I might as well show you what I've been making for Power of Three because it's almost what Mr A is informing me to do. I feel that this... Is actually the best bot I've came up with for a long time. The skin is better than most of the robots and it somewhat looks like it could be a decent RL robot. In battle this thing is able to flip heavyweights pretty easily.

Mouldy Cheese.

Insides are somewhat messy and I can say for myself that the chassis could be smaller.

awful wedges and very poor extender work, improve that please else it's gonna get raped.

otherwise battery setup looks OK, it would need more grippy wheels (since it can selfright it doesn't need huge wheels for invertibility)

i hope these are not judge bursts either, if they are mag snappers just change them to BSG's.

this is a MW not a HW, therefore downgrade it to MW level... the additional drive and armor are wastes of weight. It doesn't have the weaponry to compete in HW, not even IRL HW.

hell i'm quite sure you could try downgrading it to LW level and it will keep the same weaponry.

and yes it is possible to make it LW with the same weaponry. I think (although it'll probably suck) I'll have a go at this.

Oh, I thought you meant just down-grading the armour :V

I'll give it another go.

Edit: By using the same weapon system and chassis, I was able to bring it down to 395 while also upgrading the armour to Steel 3 and changing it to 2 drive motors with slipper bottoms.
Like you say though, if it was a smaller chassis, it'd probably be able to become a LW.

Done it.

T5 or T3 armour, I've forgotten already :V

I think it came out really well. Unless there's something else you think I should change.

My entry for WTT II. I haven't built in 2 years, as you can see.

It's a lightweight. Weight is Steel 3. Runs on 4 Ants and drives with 2 Astroflights.

Do those wedge parts do much damage? Do the panic attack skirts get in the way? Might be worth angling the PA skirts outward a bit.

Wedges do a fair amount of damage, around 150-300 per second.

PA skirts are far enough apart to catch most things it would seem. It's a fairly wide bot.

My IRL DSL entry for GTMCS 2 looks bloody awful.

I feel like this is better. Needs a decent skin, though.

Edit: Forgot to mention this was being made for RedAce's Deathmatch. It weighs 591 and has Plastic 10 armour.

That's a lot better! If you could make the back wheelguard a flat bit and kind of make the extender work smoother, it'd look really good

Danke.

Would a better way of doing it be that I make a frame out of square extenders and then put the sheets over them?

Gave what I said a go and added a skin. Thanks to the chaps in the Discord for the assistance for the transparent skin/decal issue.

Now weighs 593 and there isn't any clipping with the front of the robot. I've also adjusted the hinges to make them closer to being horizontal.

The first one could be renamed "Spinner from the Occidens."
Was that video game tournament in which someone entered a robot based on Robot Arena 2?

I think Samur-Die could be an interesting concept if someone redesigned it to be DSL IRL.

I mean, its not like I can't do it.

I probably will considering I've always liked Samur-Die a lot.
