I created two bots for a DSL challenge against Avalanche. Please give some feedback and advice because I don't have much experience with the DSL version of RA2.

You don't need to make a new showcase for this. Just post all your DSL bots in a single showcase.
-
Uh... i don't have an old DSL showcase. The only showcase I have is a Stock one.

Oh, ok. Then just go ahead and use this for your DSL showcase from now on.
-
Ok, I'll make sure i do that.
-
One thing I know about DSL is that the best kind of battery is the ant battery. The magic formula is one ant battery per spin motor. Dunno about the hammer motor, though.
Also (unless something in the challenge rules prevents it), the first bot has a ways to go before it reaches the weight limit. And piglets for drive motors is generally frowned upon.
-
Oh, i dont use the piglets for drive. They just are attached to the wheels to get the axes of the ground. I guess i could use an anchor base instead.
-
Oh come on man, i literally told you not to use Piglets in the PM.
And its a generic hw tag match btw guys.
Also, the black batteries are absolute GARBAGE! You will need some really big batteries, the big brown or orange ones should do. Just match up the amps on the battery description to the motor description.
Those piglets will not drive that weapon well enough on the VS. Move the front wheels and put Perm 132's instead. Then use baseplate anchors upside down to mount some stablisers. You could use a double axle ETEK if you want.

You really should know better than this by now.
The only batteries you need to use in DSL are the ant batteries unless you are using a burst motor. The general rule for batteries in DSL is 1 ant battery per spin motor and maybe throw an extra in for good measure.
I think the red Battlepacks are best for bursts, depending on the burst. I'll let someone a little more knowledgeable take it from here.

I just updated the pictures. For SHREDDER, i decided to make a completely new design.
-
The first bot is still really underweight. Make sure to always build to the limit. It needs more weapons on it to be able to do decent damage. Also, you only have three spin motors in there at the moment, so you only need 3 ant batteries.
-
Oh yah, i forgot thats how it works. Imma go fix that and add more weapons right now.
-
When you want to post pictures of the updated bots put them in a new post in this thread. That way you and others can see what progress you are making with each update to the bot. Also to present your images better please crop them, as per this guide: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=2143.0 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=2143.0)
On both robots remove the back armour, because it isn't serving any purpose other than a waste of weight, it won't protect you from any attacks. If you want armour put it on the front, because that's most likely where you'll be taking most hits in a battle (or at least where you want to be taking hits, so that you can also deal damage yourself). Also the weapon on Shredder passes through the perm making the robot unrealistic, so just use the other attachment point of the perm.
-
Avalanche, these are the bots that I will use for the challenge because it's become a bit too tedious to edit the bot, transfer the bot to DSL 2.1, screen shot it, save the pic, and then upload a new photo. You can go ahead and make the challenge board topic now. Also, I won't have the time to edit them even more because I will likely have a busy week.
-
Just lurk at showcases of builders like Scrap Daddy, Virus Bomb, NFX, Craaig, ty4er, Martymidget, 090901, and Mr. AS to see what the standard building level is.
-
sure, I'll goh check them out right now.

I meant for the beta burst, in which case he will need the big batteries.
Also, the spinner on your spinner bot will cut through the motor because it is on the wrong axle, it needs to be on the top one.
-
Yea, in the update it's on the top. Still worried about its stability tho.
-
Don't update the OP, just post again.

Yea, lemonism advised me to do that, but my older pictures are gone because I replaced them. I'll make sure to do that if I edit my bots again.
-
oh wow that's pretty bad...
Though you are new and don't know the techniques so it's ok.
Alright, some advice.
Shredder: First of all rows of weapons are useless on spinners like that, you want all your weapon weight at the extremities so remove the weapons and put some HEAVY weapons on the extremities of your spinner. Also use only DSL bars as spinner bars, much better and lighter than steel extenders + T-extender.
Second of all drive Eteks are generally not needed at HW level unless you want rammers, use a weaker motor. Wheels also seem too big.
Smesh: You need more drive (2wd NPC Fast is a good idea), more batteries (use the 30kg ones), frontal armor.
I also think your chassis is badly oriented, if I were you I would put the top of the T at the front of your bot instead of at the rear.
Also build to weight limit and don't use too much weight on chassis armor. Armor doesn't win battles.
