Title: Kkrraakk's DSL Showcase
Post by: kkrraakk on October 25, 2010, 08:17:46 PM
My first DSL bot, "Viper".
Weight is 1440kg, so SHW UHW class. (My mistake...)
I am building a new version according to feedback, so it WILL change, probably multiple times.

To be fair to loading times, the new bot, Pit Viper, is up now and the old images
are now just html.

Sorry for the Hiatus, I was gone for quite a while... I am working on new bots, and will be posting them soon.
My Xbox GT is: BL1NKD3ATH

Don't use weapon motors for drive.

Number one rule about bots here is be space effective. You don't need all those batts try 3 ants maybe 4 to be on the safe side. To start off.

OK
Advice:
You actually built a Ultraheavyweight. Superheavyweight is up to 1200kgs, Ultraheavyweights are up to 5000kgs.
You can get this down to a Heavyweight easy.
Do not use Steel 10. Its overkill for this weight. Usually that armor is only used for full 5000kgs UHWs.
Try to minimize chassis space around components.
The motors you should really be using for drive are E-Tek Drive Motors, and NPC T-64 Fasts at the heavyweight level. Perms do not really have the torque, as they are meant for high speed.

All I can think of for now.

you don't need 8 battlepacs either, heck even 8 ants is a bit overkill in my book.
Also, never use t-connectors or angle connectors, they're very brittle.

And, from what I can see that's unrealistic, the spinning bar would pass through those upward facing spikes (whixh also don't need to ne there BTW)

You don't need more than 6 ant batteries, and as said before Perms are not for drive. The only drive motors are Copals, Astroflights, Slimbodies, Drive TWM3s, NPCs (all), NPC Fasts and Drive E-Teks. All the rest are for weapon motors.

And your current weapon is messy. Try to keep to simple designs and check other showcases for advice.

Okay, I know I'm just repeating, but I might be able to explain things as well

1) SHW only goes up to 1200kg.
2) You would only need a few ant batteries for this design - the general rule is 1 ant battery per spin motor, although you need more if there are any burst motors.
3) As Nary said, (Copypaste time) the only drive motors are Copals, Astroflights, Slimbodies, Drive TWM3s, NPCs (all), NPC Fasts and Drive E-Teks.
4) In DSL we like to build realistically - you don't have to, but the bots won't be generally accepted by the community. What a bunch we are. The spinning weapon looks as though it may pass through the perm
5) I don't actually think you'd need a caster. Try it without.
6) As someone said, Steel 10 is way overkill. Try something else, but not aluminium. Aluminium seems to be hated round these parts ;p

Follow these tips and you may have a nifty HW on your hands rather than a UHW :D
Oh, and WELL DONE for cropping your pictures, and showing inside views. That's usually the first thing we have to bug people for XD

Also, steel extenders are far to heavy to be practical. Use Aluminium or tite.

Wow! Thanks for all of the feedback- looks like I needed it. Also, thanks in specific for the list of drive motors- I do believe that will come in handy :) . I guess all that's left is to rebuild it better, and more realistically!

You don't need to edit your first post. Just post each bot in a new post as you go through the showcase. Its good for showing progression, where you can start at the beginning of the showcase not so good, and be great by the end. And it helps with posting so we don't have to go back to the first page a bunch of times.

Why are the plows on servos?

Just put the plows on multiextenders. Also your weapon setup is unefficient, use the round side of the extender to put your weapons, you can get twice the amount that way. Also your drive motors are cheat motors, use NPC's (they can be mounted outside the chassis) instead.

Also, you need to change up your armor. Double Strength Alumnium (or DSA) is inferior to even 1 mm Plastic. I forget the correct digits right now, but I believe that 1 mm Plastic is ~7x stronger than DSA and weighs less than it as well.

Yes, this is only in DSL.
In stock DSA is by far the best armour.
Just thought i'd clear that up so he doesn't get confused.
