Agreed!  Looks nice, K-3. How does it do in battle? Any shots/vids?

Good bot, not too much open space, maybe a little too much battery power, looks like it hits hard.

Forget "for a first bot", that's a good bot any day of the week.  Only thing I can think of is maybe remove a battery or two (six should be plenty) and upgrade the armor.

Nice.

I would put that wedge lower (flush with the ground) and lower the ground clearance or your bot - you don't have to worry about invertibility there so you can use the right wheel size-

And titanium is the armor that has the better durabiity/weight ratio, but do as your wish.
Title: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: kill343gs on September 01, 2008, 01:44:58 PM
The wedge is flush with the ground, its just a bad angle. It had 1mm titanium but I couldn't go 3mm and I had 30kg left to spare so I upped it to steel.

Post by: infiniteinertia on September 01, 2008, 10:24:39 PM
Hmm. I'd go possibly with the 50kg hammers and add side polyskirts or something.

Be afraid of mine too, because it also does that. I LEARNED SOMETHING. The weight of the armor that is DSA in stock is actually DOUBLE THE WEIGHT of Aluminum 1 Plastic 3 weighs less, even though it is rated to weigh more.

Very interesting design.  I like it.  I don't think I've yet seen a DSL hammer bot with that much weaponry.  There's just one biiiiiig problem, and one not-as-big problem.

The biiiiiiiig problem is the way those burst motors are attached.  Against any horizontal spinner, those angled shell plates in front are going to bear the brunt of any attack.  And when they break, that whole hammer system is going to fall off.  It's a weak link.  You have some weight left--I can't think of any better use than to bolster the front armor and protect those weak links.

The not-as-big problem is that the bot looks a little tipsy.  This could be easily fixed by adding some side supports, though.
Title: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: kill343gs on October 23, 2008, 03:01:24 PM
In testing it really wasn't too tipsy, but I'll try and add some side supports and some frontal armor. The JXs were going to be inside the chassis, but I used the same chassis and front setup as Far Cry so it would have the same wedges. Needless to say, those huge motors didn't quite fit.

1mm ti, has to decide between 1mm ti and 2 ant batts or 1mm steel and only the 4 battlepacks... went with the ant batts. this thing is really stable, haven't tested it in combat yet though. And yes, those are skis for armor.
Title: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?

Get rid of a few battlepacks, replace some w/ants, and use the weight for more weapons.

unfortunately bots would not fit inside the armor, making it very hard to do damage. I had to redesign and it is no longer anywhere near as stable.

Too many batteries.  This looks like it needs only about 4 ants.  You can use the weight gained to get better armor, 5mm titanium would be an excellent choice.
Title: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: Naryar on November 18, 2009, 12:55:27 AM
Not bad. But yeah, battery overkill and yes, 3mm Alu is an horrible armor choice like in stock.

Is that invertible ?

Not invertible, but it can tumble around with the drum and still be fairly dangerous.

Remove the anglers, use beater bars instead of razors. Use aluminum extenders instead of steel ones or use a drum. With the remaining weight, you could upgrade to NPC's.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?

Very cool looking. And don't listen to triton, keep the razors :)
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: kill343gs on January 09, 2010, 08:28:08 PM
I am keeping the razors. I did change the steel extenders to aluminums though, which gave me enough weight to change the top of the armor to hold other bots better.

Consider replacing your weapon extender with weapon hex.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: Naryar on January 10, 2010, 05:48:54 AM
Yet it has potential.

8 ants is the maximum you should use on this.

Anyways, remove two ants and anglers and you might also want to use dual metal hinge wedges or NPC's.

1mm steel, 2 ants. First DSL LW ever, Moving Violation.

I like the looks of it!

To improve it, I would suggest adding one more ant battery, using 1mm tite, and if you can, getting door hinge wedges.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?

Go for 3mm plastic, or upgrade the piglet to a TWM.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL SHOWCASE?
Post by: Naryar on February 02, 2010, 03:38:01 AM
Definitely 3mm plastic... and probably a metal hinge wedge as well since you're probably going to get outwedged by the first gut-ripper you'll face.

Edit: Oh and one more ant battery is needed

Edit 2: GAH OUNCE BEAT ME TO IT

haha nice skinning job.. I never got around to finishing my Companion Cube robot

maybe rotate the Multi Extenders 90 degrees and have the drive on the side (back AP for the TWM motors) to improve turning

also maybe use skirt hinges for a lighter front extender setup.. if you wanted, that is..

Ask and ye shall receive.

Built a LW Cube SNS when the power was out today, but it wasn't very good. Built this invertible rammer instead.

NPC Fasts, 2 Ants, I think it has 3mm Alu.

Works absolutely the same inverted. 2 NPC Fasts is extremely fast on a LW.

If there's a way to AI it so it turns round when one side of weaponry is broken/weak, I would certainly consider it.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL Showcase
Post by: Urjak on January 12, 2011, 04:17:37 PM
I wouldn't. You will have better success with your first rammer IMO, simply because you don't have to sacrifice weaponry for the extra extender work for your back weaponry.

Thwartoise.

SwitchDirRam.py has been around for years which will swap directions

IIRC the difference with Thwartoise was its ability to swap by what side have the most weapons not just when one side looses all..
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL Showcase
Post by: Somebody on January 12, 2011, 07:36:17 PM
Yup Thwartoise uses BiDiRam. So does the Hammer 2 multibot in COTT.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL Showcase
Post by: Clickbeetle on January 13, 2011, 02:31:10 AM
Yay, LW DSL Thwartoise.

The great thing about this design is that it's immune to melty brain SnS's, which often like to get in your rear and keep knocking you to the side so you can't turn to face them.

However, you really need to be able to outweapon them to make the strategy effective... in which case I would suggest downgrading the drive a bit in order to make it more of a tank.  You can also flip the NPC's 180 degrees in order to get the wheels closer to the center of the bot, where they will be even more protected, and you won't need such long extenders to hold the weapon racks either.

There probably won't be many popups in CC4 so that bot's main enemies will be flippers and VS's... flippers you can't really do anything about, but if you had extra weight (ha, yeah right), some extra chassis armor might let you unbalance VS's weapons before they can kill you.
Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL Showcase
Post by: Vertigo on January 13, 2011, 12:52:46 PM
Yays staggered drive, something you don't see often in RA2 (bar SNS)

Wouldn't it be better with just one bigger weapon rack, so more weapons hit at once?

Title: Re: Kill343gs's DSL Showcase
Post by: 123savethewhales on January 14, 2011, 02:21:29 PM
The outer extenders need to be replaced with beater bars if it want to stand a chance at de-weaponing a flail SnS.  This design as is does not have the weapon mass to deal with them.

Flip the motors outward so the motors protect the chassis, not the other way around.  You move slowly if you lose a motor, but when you lose your chassis you lose.

Ditch the long multiextender and replace it with DSL bar or flipper segment.....  There are no reason to use a 375HP extender outside of the chassis.

I know I suck at DSL. Sue me.

I can give you a handful of reasons why the LW doesn't work.

1. Outweaponed easily
2. As soon as that left side armor breaks off, the rest goes with it.
3. If that doesn't break, the weapon extenders will.

i can't see it.
and btw, 10mm plastic is overkill on LWs. you could downgrade it to 5mm plastic and do something with the weight.

I have absolutely nothing to do with the weight. Bot is for Nary's tourney, I only have the few connection points that I've used.

Oh come on, it was built by the legendary Kill343gs. Surely you can be a little lax on your quality control?

"Bots must have a minimum quality level" does NOT mean " Bots must be built by a sufficiently appreciated and famous member".

You and I are also legendary. Yet it would never cross my mind to enter a crap prototype into my tournament.

Besides, it would be a weak, boring competitor and you know it. The very reason for the minimum quality rule is to eliminate obvious SFTW's, therefore eliminating boring, very one-sided matchups.

So nope.

This.

Fair enough. I just wanted Kill to enter into a DSL tournament again.

This is why RA2 is dead, I haven't showcased in over a year and I get like four comments. If people are scared to tell me my sh**'s bad don't be. I just want some damn feedback.

lol the wedges don't do sh** because they're on rolly-things and not skirty hinges. and you don't need a wedges on a rammer.

3/10 i smiled.

I preferred the version with Ninja Stars. I like the idea of an invertible gutripper, it's just a shame Axle wedges are comparatively rubbish. If you turned the DSL bars the other way, with the wider end at the front, that would allow you to remove the fragile poly stabilisers.

Cool bot. If you switched the piglet for a flatmotor (:heck:) it would really be able to do some damage I think.

and switching the wedge to Ti might free up the weight to put the angled bits on for a bit more protection. Looks pretty rad though
